Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Educação Física) – Departamento de Educação Física, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/48046Objective: To analyze the somatotype characteristics of 100m runners athletics team of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Methods: A cross-sectional study with a profile study typology that evaluated 07 male athletes from the UFRN Athletics Team. The anthropometric measurements were: height and body mass; (supraspinatus, triciptal, subscapular and medial thigh), bone diameter (humeral bi-epicondyle and femoral bi-epicondyle) and perimetry (biceps calf). From the data collected, the individuals were classified, according to the somatotype typing of Heath and Carter (1990). Results: Athletes had a mean age of 23.6 ± 5.7, mean body mass of 71.2 ± 5.5 and mean height of 75.4 ± 4.6 (Table 1). The somatotype was quantitatively evaluated, with a predominance of the mesomorph component. Conclusion: The identification of somatotype can be a tool used in the selection of better runners.
