Materials and methods: We assesed adults and elderly individuals of both sexes who received health care at the primary care level. socio-economic data to characterize the sample and cardiovascular risk factors, anthropometric and biochemical were collected. The FCH was determined from measurements of waist circumference and triglyceride levels, and compared the cutoffs proposed by the NCEP / ATP III (WC ≥ 102 cm for men and ≥ 88 cm for women and triglyceride levels> 150mg / dL for both sexes) and Lemieux and colleagues (> 177mg / dL and waist circumference> 90 cm in men and waist circumference> 85cm, and triglycerides> 177mg / dL for women). Results:In total, 437 individuals were included in the sample, and 73,7% participants were female. The prevalence of hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype was high and statistically significant differences in the use of different cutoff points found in the literature, the higher prevalence when using the cutoff suggested by National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP / ATP III, 2001) (36, 2%). Individuals with the phenotype presence also showed changes in other traditional cardiovascular risk markers. Conclusions: FCH identified a high prevalence of CV risk in the population, proving its discriminatory power risk.
