Popularly known as cassava, the species produces tuberous roots and plays an important socioeconomic and cultural role in the Northeast region of the country, given its rusticity and relevance to the population, especially those who live based on the family economy. Cassava is the main agricultural crop exploited by farmers in the municipality of Macaíba/RN, especially in rural settlement areas of the Agrarian Reform, being the municipality the largest cassava producer in the Rio Grande do Norte state. However, the low level of education among producers implies limitations in the management and modernization of productivity, since most do not even know the production costs of the crop. The objective of this study was to analyze the economic and financial viability of M. esculenta production in the projects of the rural settlements Eldorado dos Carajás and Caracaxá in the municipality of Macaíba-RN, using methods of investment evaluation based on the estimate of the cash flow of the activity and the following financial viability indicators: Net Present Value (LPV), Return Period (PR), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Minimum Attractiveness Rate (TMA) set at 10% p.y. It was also considered a projection period of five years, a productivity of 25 t/ha in the Eldorado dos Carajás Settlement and 21 t/ha in Caracaxá and three different market scenarios to obtain revenue, by R$ 0.18 (scenario I), R$ 0.29 (scenario II) and R$ 0.40 (scenario III) paid for the kg of the root. For this, an exploratory study was carried out with field research, with visits to the cultivation areas to identify and estimate the cost and revenue elements that make up the cassava production system in each settlement, in addition to monitoring the sales price of the product in the market. The information collected was treated using quantitative resources, using formulas to estimate cash flow and identify and analyze feasibility indicators. After the results, the crop presented a production cost of R$ 22,374.00 in the Eldorado dos Carajás Settlement and R$ 21,545.00 in Caracaxá, for the period analyzed. In the accumulated cash flow, scenario I presented a negative performance of R$ 1,309.42 in Eldorado and R$ 3,388.37 in Caracaxá; in scenario II there was an improvement, obtaining the value of R$ 9,115.25 and R$ 5,368.35 respectively, and in scenario III the result was much higher, with a total of R$ 19,539.91 for the production system of the Eldorado Settlement and R$ 14,125.07 for Caracaxá. Regarding the Indicators VPL, PR and IRR, they presented similar behavior in the indices obtained in the two production systems, showing an unfavorable result in the first market scenario, both for Eldorado and Caracaxá. In the second and third scenario, the indexes were all positive, suggesting the viability of the crop in both settlements.
