Água viva is characterized by the presence of stream of consciousness and a tone of unexpected improvisation, in addition to not fitting into conventional genre concepts. The language of the book also shows the expression of a conception of the world or worldview in which the indeterminacy of existence stands out. Therefore, in this work, we investigate how this conception of the world is expressed in language, such as in the symbolic structures used, and in the constitution of the work as a whole, using Humphrey (1976) and Eagleton (2006) as a theoretical basis. Thus, we analyze and interpret the construction of stream of consciousness in the book; the structure of the work with regard to its lack of adherence to definitions of known literary genres; and how solitude is related to the narrator-character's return to herself and the resulting conceptions of the world that she arrives at. To support this analysis, we also consider the propositions of existential-phenomenology, specifically with regard to the ideas of Heidegger (2011) and Feijoo (2011). This is because it is through solitude that the space is created for the narrator-protagonist of the work in question to look at herself and understand herself — and, at the same time, not understand herself — as an individual, but also as part of a whole, which is expressed in the conceptions of existence constructed by the work, from an aesthetic point of view.
