Incidência de sífilis gestacional e congênita em pacientes da Maternidade Doutor Araken Irerê Pinto. 2019. 41f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Biomedicina) - Centro de Biociências, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/43191Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and its etiologic agent is the bacterium Treponema pallidum. The transmission can occur in several ways, such as by placenta crossing (vertical transmission), blood transfusion, sexual contact or other contact with an injury. For laboratory diagnosis it is possible to perform microscopic tests and serological tests (specific) and non-treponemic (non-specific). The present study aimed was to analyze the incidence of syphilis in pregnant and congenital patients at the Doutor Araken Irerê Pinto Maternidade, located in Natal/RN, in 2018. For the accomplishment of this work were analyzed the Annual Maternity Production and the Sinan data, this one was provided by the Municipal Health Department of Natal. According to Sinan data, from 2,378 live births (LB) and number of reported cases, 33.3:1000LB was obtained for syphilis in pregnant women and 32:1000LB for congenital syphilis, with a vertical transmission rate of 96.10%. In addition, it was also found that 89.1% of the pregnant women performed prenatal care during pregnancy, however, 71% of the cases were diagnosed in childbirth. Regarding the domicile area, it was observed that 64% of the women with syphilis resided in the western region of Natal. The incidence of gestational and congenital syphilis cases found was higher than in other studies performed in Brazil, which can be attributed to the educational level of the patients, as well as to the fact that the State of Rio Grande do Norte presents a higher incidence, according to epidemiological data of the Ministry of Health. This fact that deserves to be highlighted for establishing preventive and educational measures for the population.
