From bibliographic and documentary research, the public space and the transformations suffered by it over time were initially presented, besides the concept and differentiation between public space and collective space and the reflection of this in the new configuration of urbanity of cities, which is directly related to the concept of socio-spatial segregation widely observed today in society. Subsequently, the central object of the work, the squares, was conceived, based on their definitions, characteristics and functions. And in the third chapter, several aspects related to the public squares of Natal were explored, seeking to quantify and characterize them from the socioeconomic profiles of the administrative regions and some neighborhoods, beyond to the aesthetic conditions and their preservation.
