Some factors that may be associated with school dropout are: area of residence, lack of employability, failure, retention, withdrawal from the course, health problems, etc. Identifying the real factors that lead a student to drop out of the course is essential to prevent other students from abandonment out or dropping out. Thus, the objective of this work was to research possible factors associated with school dropout in the Degree in Rural Education at the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte, Canguaretama campus, as well as to compare the temporal evolution of rates and quantitative indicators: dropout rate, regular active enrollment, permanence and success rate, among others. The research methodology was a cohort study between April 20, 2016 and December 7, 2022 with a qualitative and quantitative approach to the data collected, it was also a documentary research based on the Strategic Plan for Permanence and Success of Students of the IFRN 2016-2018. It was observed that male students have a probability of 62.64% of dropping out, while female students have a probability of 52.24% of not continuing the course.
