Tese (Doutorado em Geografia) - Centro de Ciências Humanas, Letras e Artes, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2022.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/50967Ecosystem Services (ESs) are ecological processes responsible for the functioning and production of services that regulate and maintain the quality of life. To have a complete and integrated assessment of the benefits that ESs provide to society, it is necessary to understand the complexity underlying their production, where geodiversity represents a fundamental support for biodiversity. In this sense, there are series of abiotic factors that comprise the production of ESs that need to be better detailed and validated. An alternative for the evaluation of the influence of geodiversity on the offer of services is the use of statistical models. This research, which had as its spatial-empirical cut the mangrove in the city of Raposa (MA), aimed to analyze the influence of local geodiversity on ecosystem services provided by the Raposa mangrove (MA). In order to accomplish this goal, geoenvironmental characterization of the area was carried out; identification/classification and mapping of ES with methodological support from CICES - Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services, application of interviews and use of GIS; collection of physical-chemical parameters in situ and laboratory analysis; and, application of statistical tests (Pearson correlation and principal component analysis) in order to model the relation among geodiversity elements and services. The mangrove swamp in the municipality of Raposa (MA) presented the provision, regulation/maintenance and cultural services, with emphasis on the collection of crustaceans/molluscs and fishing; flow regulation and maintenance of populations and habitats; and intellectual, physical, and experiential interactions with the natural environment. Considering all services identified, the geoenvironmental units were classified between very high (mangrove forest) and high (apicum, tidal channels and sand/clay bank) capacity to provide services, highlighting the cultural category. From the analysis of the main components, for the parameters considered (pH, electrical conductivity, global density, humidity, carbon, organic matter and granulometry), it was possible to identify the geodiversity elements that presented the greatest relationship with each area of the Raposa mangrove – MA (A1 – Curupu, A2 – Carimã, A3 – Mangue Seco). PC1 explained 73.1% of the variables, while PC2 explained only 26.9%. It is noted that the geodiversity of particles and elements acting in the Raposa mangrove present intense variability regarding interactions, processes and correlations for the functioning of the ecosystem. As for the analyzed areas, A2 showed the greatest combination of geodiversity particles (sand, clay, salinity, humidity, temperature) in the supply of ESs. While A1 (silt, organic matter, carbon) and A3 (electrical conductivity, pH, global density), showed similar diversity with regard to abiotic parameters, however, different offers for services. It is important to emphasize that the occurrence of a parameter does not exclude the occurrence of the others. The analysis indicates which ones had a greater relation with each area. Geodiversity operates at different scales to produce services, the mangrove is exposed daily to temporal and spatial variations, in terms of tidal dynamics, nutrient/sediment input and energy. In this case, in addition to understanding the dynamics of local geodiversity, it is necessary to analyze the socioeconomic profile of users and the level of accessibility to the ecosystem in question. To this extent, there is a way to understand the relations between the physical processes adjacent to the provision of services and the geographical situation in which they are inserted.
