Among the diseases that can affect the elderly is depression, which stands out as a frequent clinical condition, characterized by a variety of physiological, cognitive and behavioral, which can cause morbidity, dependence and mortality in the elderly. Thus, the objective of the study is to describe the risk factors associated with the presence of depression in elderly people. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, being a part of the longitudinal and multicenter project of the International Research Network on vulnerability, health, safety and quality of life of the elderly: Brazil, Portugal, Spain, France, Chile, Mexico, United States United States of America and Argentina. The results revealed that the majority of elderly people with depressive symptoms were female, over 80 years of age and illiterate. It was also observed that frail elderly people, on polypharmacy and with at least one self-reported illness, are at greater risk of being affected by depression. Finally, the data showed that elderly people with risk factors, such as worse quality of life, frailty, self-reported diseases and polypharmacy, were associated with depression. These results highlight the importance of interventions to improve the prognosis of depression in older adultsAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/Depressão; Fragilidade; Pessoas idosasFatores de risco associados à depressão em pessoas idosasRisk factors associated with depression in elderly peopleRisk factors associated with depression in elderly peoplebachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEM
