Method: Descriptive and analytical cross-sectional observational study carried out with a non-probabilistic, convenience sample. The sample consisted of 65 individuals with assessment of pressure peak and lingual resistance with and without prostheses, from medical records filed at the Department of Speech Therapy at the Laboratory of Orofacial Myology and Oropharyngeal Dysphagia (MODOLab) resulting from collections carried out at the Ambulatory of Geriatrics and Otorhinolaryngology of the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL). The survey was carried out from January to November 2022. Data analysis included the description of categorical variables and inference using the paired t test, at a significance level of 0.05. Results: Sixty-five medical records were analyzed with participants between 60 and 87 years old, with a mean age of 70 years old (±6.90), 52 (80.0%) females and 13 (20.0%) males. There was a significant difference with loss of pressure peak in relation to the use of dental prostheses, and gain in resistance when the elderly person was wearing a prosthesis.
