The present work proposes an armoring system for the AS-350 helicopter, using a polymer matrix composite reinforced with para-aramid and glass fibers. Considering airworthiness requirements and restrictions determined by the manufacturer, an analytical method was used to study the effects of the proposed armor on the weight and balance of the aircraft. The project used Aerospace Design Methodology in conducting the work. The efficiency of the ballistic composite, was verified using experimental tests carried out in an open outdoor environment in which the composite was exposed to impact of projectiles with a caliber of 5.56x45 mm. The material peformance was evaluated based on tests results for the determination of the protection reliability of the ballistic system.
