While platforms like Airbnb generate billions of dollars globally, their impacts in developing countries remain largely unexplored. This study aimed to analyze the challenges and dilemmas of consumer relationships generated by Airbnb in the city of Natal, Brazil, through the lens of Transformative Service Research (TSR). The research employed a mixed-method case study, combining data scraping from the platform with interviews and participant observation. The empirical analysis focused on four TSR domains: territorial, sociological, commercial, and institutional. The findings indicate that Airbnb's presence in Natal raises complex dilemmas for the sustainable and balanced development of the local ecosystem. Territorial implications include the verticalization of the city and real estate speculation, while the commercial sphere shows the creation of jobs and income, along with the opening of new markets. From a sociological perspective, there are changes insocial dynamics within tourist neighborhoods and the risk of gentrification. Finally, institutional challenges involve the need for monitoring and for tax and legal regulation of public policies that balance the interests of all actors in the tourism industry. This thesis contributes to the debate by characterizing Airbnb's impacts within the tourism context of one of Brazil's most popular destinations. It highlights the complexity of the phenomenon for the development of similar tourist destinations and initiates a deeper discussion on the topic at the state level.
