    Introduction: Identifying hearing loss in students is essential to ensure adequate educational and social development. Objective: To assess the agreement between auditory screening procedures and the Hearing-in-Noise Test (HINT) adapted as the Digits-in-Noise Test (DIN) in students. Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted with 83 students from the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte – Parnamirim Campus (52.2% female; 15 to 45 years old; mean age = 19.79 years), who underwent audiometric screening, transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) screening, distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) screening, tympanometric screening, and the Digits-in-Noise Test (DIN) in diotic and antiphasic modes. The DIN was administered via an online link on a smartphone using headphones, following an automated adaptive procedure, with cut-off points of –6.7 dB SNR (diotic) and –11 dB SNR (antiphasic). Agreement between procedures was analyzed using Fleiss’ Kappa and Cohen’s Kappa indices. Results: The diotic DIN showed the highest pass rate (98.80%), followed by the antiphasic DIN and DPOAEs (91.57%). The highest failure rate occurred in the TEOAEs (42.17%). Overall agreement between procedures was low (Fleiss’ kappa = –0.20), and pairwise agreement ranged from slight to regular agreement among tests, with the highest agreement observed between tympanometry and DPOAEs. Conclusion: The DIN, particularly in the antiphasic mode, shows greater agreement with otoacoustic emissions in failure outcomes. Nevertheless, the sample size and differences in the distribution of outcomes may have limited the results. The DIN is a functional and promising tool for identifying hearing difficulties related to speech-in-noise recognition, although it does not replace traditional methods. The combination of different procedures contributes to a more sensitive hearing screening process among students.

    INTRODUCTION: Excess weight is a chronic condition that represents one of the main challenges for Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS). As a strategy to organize care for individuals with overweight and obesity, the Ministry of Health established the Care Lines for Overweight and Obesity (LCSO). However, more than a decade after the publication of the first regulations on the topic, not all Brazilian states have formalized LCSO, suggesting weaknesses in the implementation of this strategy. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the scientific literature on LCSO within the SUS and to develop a checklist to support the evaluation and development of state and regional LCSO. METHODS: The study was conducted in two stages. The first stage consisted of an exploratory rapid scoping review, following methodologies from the Joanna Briggs Institute and PRISMA-ScR, with evidence analysis guided by the SWOT framework. The second stage involved developing a checklist for evaluating and improving LCSO, based on a documentary review, followed by assessment of the instrument by an Expert Committee using the Content Validity Index (CVI). RESULTS: The literature search identified 1,136 records, of which 26 documents were selected for analysis. The SWOT analysis revealed the following strengths of the LCSO: multiprofessional action, user protagonism, and continuing education practices; as opportunities, national policies and programs, intersectoral initiatives, and the use of information technology; as weaknesses, management challenges, insufficient infrastructure, and gaps in professional training and practice; and as threats, limited funding, obesity being treated as an "invisible" health condition, and stigma and fatphobia within health services. Based on the documentary review, the instrument “Quality Verification and Support Checklist for Qualification and Support for the Development of State and Regional Care Lines for People with Overweight and Obesity” was developed. In the expert committee evaluation, all proposed items were deemed valid, and the checklist achieved an overall CVI > 0.80. The final version contains 47 items distributed across eight domains (Population identification; Responsibilities and mapping of available structures; Care provided across points of care, regulation, and care pathways; Clinical Protocols and Therapeutic Guidelines; Monitoring and evaluation; Continuing Education; Funding; and Critical points and improvement needs). CONCLUSION: The literature review provided an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the LCSO, highlighting the need to integrate this topic into planning and management tools, as well as to expand the research agenda on LCSO to support improvement and evaluation processes. In this context, the validated checklist represents a potentially useful tool to support the enhancement and assessment of LCSO and to improve care for people with obesity.

    Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with a significant impact on the nutritional and functional status of individuals. Diet plays a central role in modulating inflammation, oxidative stress, and the clinical progression of the disease. Although dietary parameters such as the Dietary Antioxidant Quality Score (DAQS), the Dietary Total Antioxidant Capacity (DTAC), and the NOVA classification are used to assess diet quality, studies exploring their relationship with clinical outcomes in individuals with ALS remain scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the dietary parameters DAQS and DTAC and clinical variables in individuals with ALS. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 68 individuals followed at the multidisciplinary ALS outpatient clinic of the Onofre Lopes University Hospital – HUOL (UFRN). The sample was characterized according to demographic, clinical, and nutritional characteristics. ALS progression and severity were assessed using the revised ALS Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS-R). Nutritional status was determined by Body Mass Index [BMI (kg/m²)], categorized as underweight, normal weight, and overweight. Dietary intake was assessed using two nonconsecutive 24-hour dietary recalls (24HRs). Energy and micronutrient intake were analyzed using the Virtual Nutri Plus® software. The DAQS was calculated based on the intake of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium, and categorized as “low/medium” or “high.” The DTAC, expressed in mmol/1000 kcal/day, was estimated using literature data based on the Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) method, and classified as “high” or “low” according to the median value. DTAC data were also described as the percentage contribution of each NOVA food classification group (unprocessed and minimally processed foods, processed culinary ingredients, processed foods, and ultra-processed foods) to the total DTAC. All collected variables underwent descriptive analysis. Variables with normal distribution were analyzed using the independent t-test, while non-normally distributed variables were analyzed using the non-parametric Mann–Whitney test. These tests were used to compare DAQS (high vs. low/medium) and DTAC (high vs. low) groups to demographic and clinical characteristics. Effect sizes were calculated for all statistical tests. Analyses were performed using R software, version 4.5.0, with a significance level of 5% (α = 0.05). Participants differed significantly by sex, with males presenting higher ALSFRS-R scores (p = 0.013), energy intake (kcal/day, p < 0.001), vitamin C intake (mg/day, p = 0.004), and zinc intake (mg/day, p = 0.018). The majority of DTAC (79.8%) originated from Group 1 foods according to the NOVA classification. Participants with a high DAQS had a shorter symptom duration in months (p = 0.023) and higher ALSFRS-R scores (p = 0.047) compared to those with low/medium DAQS. Higher BMI values were observed in the high DTAC group, differing significantly from the low DTAC group (p = 0.039). In conclusion, both DAQS and DTAC were associated with relevant clinical indicators in individuals with ALS, including nutritional status, functional capacity, and disease progression. The predominance of unprocessed and minimally processed foods as the main sources of dietary antioxidants highlights the importance of diet quality in the nutritional management of ALS.

    Validation of NCP-Quest: Instrument for auditing the Nutrition Care Process in Brazil. The Nutrition Care Process (NCP) is a systematic and standardized care management model that consists of four steps to address nutritional problems and provide effective, high-quality care to individuals. To document nutrition care, a standardized language is used for each step, known as the Nutrition Care Process Terminology (NCPT). To assess the implementation of the NCP/NCPT, audit instruments are employed, with the NCP-Quest being the most up-to-date and validated tool in the United States. In 2020, in Brazil, the "Consórcio para Pesquisa e Implementação do PCN no Brasil" was established, marking the beginning of an effort to implement the NCP/NCPT in the country. Thus, the objective of this study was to validate the NCP-Quest for Brazilian Portuguese. This is a methodological study, divided into two phases: (1) Validation of the translated content and (2) Assessment of the instrument's reliability. The validity of the translated content was analyzed using the Content Validity Index (CVI), both for individual items (I-CVI) and for the overall instrument (S-CVI). The instrument's reliability was assessed using α-Krippendorff’s, the percentage of agreement among raters, and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for each item, NCP section, all items combined, and the total score. The I-CVI ranged from 0.80 to 1.00, and the SCVI was 0.988 in the first round and 0.992 in the second round of translated content validation. Inter-rater reliability for the total score showed an ICC of 0.964 (95% CI = 0.850 – 0.992) for average measures and 0.930 (95% CI = 0.739 – 0.983) for single measures, demonstrating excellent agreement. α-Krippendorff’s was 0.66, indicating sufficient agreement. When evaluating individual items, some showed a negative α-Krippendorff’s, indicating a higher level of disagreement than expected by chance, which may be related to different interpretations and the subjectivity of certain instrument items. Despite these variations in specific items, the overall results indicate that the NCP-Quest is a valid and reliable instrument for audits, making it suitable for application in the Brazilian context.

    Ciclo de melhoria para prevenção de quedas em pessoas idosas hospitalizadas

    Introduction: Aging is an irreversible physiological process that increases vulnerability to diseases and adverse events such as falls. The Brazilian elderly population is growing rapidly, posing challenges for public health and hospital care. Falls among hospitalized older adults are frequent, cause morbidity, mortality, and psychological impacts, and demand effective preventive strategies. Implementing international safety goals and identifying risk factors contribute to reducing these events. Quality improvement cycles allow the integration of evidence-based practices, promoting safety and active surveillance in elderly care. Objective: To develop a quality improvement cycle for fall prevention among hospitalized older adults in a public hospital in Northeastern Brazil. Methodology: This quasiexperimental before-and-after study with a quantitative approach was conducted from October 2024 to August 2025, following the Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence 2.0 (SQUIRE). Thirty elderly patients hospitalized in the Orthopedic Clinic of a university hospital were observed before and 30 after interventions aimed at fall prevention. Five quality criteria were defined based on ANVISA and institutional protocols, and quality improvement tools were applied. Interventions included daily risk assessment, standardization of nursing care, proper signaling, and education for patients, families, and staff. Conformities were analyzed using absolute and relative frequencies, 95% confidence intervals, and chi-square test (p ≤ 0.05). Results: After the interventions, significant improvement was observed in all five criteria. Daily fall risk assessment with the Morse Scale (C1) increased from 0% to 100% compliance (p < 0.001). Nursing prescription regarding patient/family education (C5) improved by 70%, and nursing prescription regarding companion guidance (C4) by 63% (both p < 0.001). Execution of safety measures—locked bed and raised side rails (C2)—showed a 27% improvement, and proper visual signaling and wristband for high fall risk (C3) improved by 23% (p < 0.05). Overall, nonconformities decreased by 74%. Conclusions: The implementation of a quality improvement cycle significantly increased adherence to fall prevention practices, reducing care-related risks. These findings highlight the relevance of continuous interventions to strengthen the safety culture for hospitalized older adults.

    Validação de terminologia especializada de enfermagem para o cuidado de gestantes com sífilis à luz da teoria da adaptação de Callista Roy

    Syphilis is a systemic Sexually Transmitted Infection caused by Treponema pallidum, exclusively affecting humans. Transmitted sexually, it can also be vertical, resulting in congenital syphilis, associated with abortions, fetal deaths, and disabilities. This study constructed and validated specialized terminology specific for pregnant women with syphilis, structured by Callista Roy's Adaptation Model, to strengthen nursing practice in prenatal care. To develop and validate specialized terminology for pregnant women with syphilis, based on Roy's Adaptation Model. This is a methodological study conducted in four stages: identification of terms via scoping review; lexical analysis and cross-mapping; terminology construction and theoretical classification; and content validation by experts. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), under Opinion No. 7.518.523, as recommended by Resolution No. 466/2012. The study resulted in the extraction of 6,658 occurrences of high-frequency terms, with the highest concentration in the CIPE® axes: Focus (n = 148), Action (n = 79), and Means (n = 65). Semantic equivalence analysis revealed that 55.89% of the terms were non-constant in the taxonomy, indicating the specificity of the language for the studied population. The subsequent content validation stage demonstrated high agreement among the experts: out of 641 terms evaluated, 433 were validated with a CVI ≥ 0.80 (67.55% of the total). The overall CVI mean was 0.946 and the global Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) was 0.91, confirming the rigor of the subset. As limitations, the theoretical nature of content validation is noted, requiring future clinical validation to consolidate the practical applicability of the subset. The results indicate that clinical practice requires terminology complementary to the official one. This study offers contributions to education by providing theoretical foundations for evidence-based professional training; to management, by enabling the creation of quality indicators in prenatal care; and to research, by fostering the development of clinical decision support systems. It is concluded that the subset facilitates the nurse's clinical and critical reasoning by allowing the formulation of more precise and holistic nursing diagnoses and interventions, as recommended by Roy's Adaptation Theory, positively impacting maternal and child outcomes.

    Telerreabilitação e fisioterapia presencial em pessoas com Doença de Parkinson: dados quantitativos e qualitativos de um ensaio clínico aleatorizado

    Introduction: Physiotherapy plays a central role in the management of Parkinson’s disease (PD), contributing to the reduction of both motor and non-motor symptoms and to the promotion of quality of life. In recent years, telerehabilitation (TR) has emerged as an alternative or complementary approach to in-person physiotherapy (PF), facilitating access, continuity of care, and the reduction of geographical and logistical barriers. Objective: To analyze the effects of TR compared with PF in individuals with PD, considering both quantitative and qualitative clinical outcomes. Methods: This randomized clinical trial involved people with PD who participated in a 16-week group physiotherapy program conducted either in-person or remotely. Assessments were performed at four time points (baseline, 8, 16, and 24 weeks) using validated instruments to measure motor symptoms (MDS-UPDRS III), quality of life (PDQ-39), cognition (MoCA), balance, and functional mobility (TUG, FGA). Session adherence and adverse events were systematically monitored. In addition, a qualitative study was carried out two months after the intervention, through semi-structured interviews analyzed using Bardin’s Content Analysis method. Inferential statistical analysis (mixed ANOVA) was applied to quantitative outcomes, while qualitative data were examined descriptively and thematically to identify perceived benefits, barriers, and facilitators. Results: Quantitative findings indicated that both TR and PF promoted clinical improvement in motor and non-motor symptoms. PF showed greater gains in the mobility and activities of daily living domains of the PDQ-39, as well as in balance and gait, whereas TR demonstrated better cognitive stability (MoCA). Adherence was high in both groups, and no serious adverse events were observed. The qualitative analysis revealed predominantly positive experiences in both groups, including feelings of motivation, support, and well-being, as well as appreciation for professional guidance. Contextual factors included social interaction and accessibility in the PF group, and convenience and autonomy in the TR group, although the latter also reported technical challenges and the need for family assistance. Conclusion: TR and PF proved to be safe and effective strategies for individuals with PD, presenting complementary benefit profiles. The choice between modalities should consider individual characteristics, personal and contextual preferences, and the need for technological support. The findings reinforce TR as a feasible and effective tool that expands access and diversifies rehabilitation options for people with PD.

    Among the many applications of orbital remote sensing, bathymetric data collection offers a unique advantage by enabling the analysis of the Earth's surface in threedimensions. This expanded perspective allows for more effective modeling of geomorphological features and facilitates the assessment of their temporal dynamics. In coastal regions - and particularly within shallow marine environments - optical sensors have proven highly effective in the digital seabed modeling, thereby expanding knowledge in areas where conventional data acquisition methods are often logistically challenging, costly and associated with elevated-risk. Within the Brazilian Equatorial Margin (MEB), satellite derived bathymetry remains underutilized, despite the region’s high potential and the increasing demand for detailed seafloor information. This study aimed to develop a methodological framework and implement established techniques of satellite-derived bathymetry (SDB) using optical sensors to map the northern continental shelf of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, located in the semiarid sector of the MEB. The proposed methodology involved quantifying the volume of sediment remobilization in sandy spits through the generation and analysis of beachface profiles derived from Planet SuperDove sensor imagery. This approach enabled the effective monitoring of a sandy spit progradation, which resulted in the accumulation approximately 150,000 m³ of sediment (with a mean thickness of 1.76 m) over a 472-day interval. In optically clear waters, empirical bathymetry derived from satellites were applied using Sentinel 2 MSI imagery, incorporating logarithmic band ratio equations and multiple linear regressions techniques. The most robust models exhibited high representativeness (R²=0.92) for depths up to 15 meters, with vertical accuracy on the order of 1.1 meters. These findings demonstrated the efficacy and reliability of the applied SDB methods, which are consistent with analogous approaches documented in scientific literature. According, the methodology is recommended for applications in other sectors of the MEB, contributing to the advancement of regional marine geospatial analysis.

    This study evaluated the influence of interactions among corn (Mi), cassava (Ma), and potato (Ba) starches on the properties of thermoplastic starch (TPS), considering the limitations of using isolated starches, such as high water susceptibility and low mechanical performance. To investigate these interactions, binary and ternary blends were prepared based on a simplex-centroid experimental design {3,2}, used as a tool to analyze interactions among different starch sources. TPS materials were obtained by casting from gelatinized aqueous dispersions and by extrusion, allowing the effect of the processing method on material properties to be assessed. The starches exhibited amylose contents of 29.52 ± 0.38% (Mi), 18.19 ± 0.68% (Ma), and 34.77 ± 0.29% (Ba), as well as average viscosimetric molar masses (M̅v) of 1.34 × 10⁶, 2.93 × 10⁶, and 6.09 × 10⁵ g·mol⁻¹, respectively. Rheological tests of aqueous solutions indicated higher apparent viscosity and thixotropy values for corn starch, while the blends showed intermediate values of storage modulus (G′), loss modulus (G″), and complex viscosity (|η*|) compared to the pure components. In the films obtained by casting, starch interactions influenced crystallinity and opacity, with higher values observed in formulations rich in potato starch. Ternary blends with higher proportions of Mi and Ba exhibited lower water solubility indices, indicating synergistic effects. Thermal analysis showed that formulations with higher Ma content exhibited greater thermal stability, associated with a higher amylopectin proportion. Mechanical tests indicated an increase in maximum tensile strength in the blends compared to the isolated starches. In extruded TPS, increasing the Ma proportion resulted in smoother and shinier surfaces, but with greater susceptibility to moisture. Thermal and mechanical properties showed intermediate values relative to the pure components, reflecting the combined effect of composition and processing. Overall, the results demonstrated that amylose content, starch molar mass, and processing technique govern the interactions among starch sources, directly impacting TPS properties. Mixture modeling highlighted the potential of starch blends for the development of biodegradable materials.

    Coastal erosion represents one of the most critical manifestations of morphodynamic instability, exacerbated by increasing anthropogenic pressure and climate change in the South Equatorial Atlantic. On the northern coast of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), Northeastern Brazil, inadequate urban and tourism expansion has intensified these processes. This study aimed to characterize and quantitatively measure the erosive impact on the beaches of São Miguel do Gostoso and Touros, providing technical support for engineering projects and adaptive regional coastal management. The methodological approach integrated the characterization of meteooceanographic forcings, multitemporal and geostatistical analyses of erosion, and the assessment of coastal vulnerability by incorporating the protective ecosystem services of natural features. The research employed remote sensing data (LANDSAT/SENTINEL-2) processed in the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) to analyze historical shoreline changes (1986–2023) and applied the Coastal Vulnerability Index using the Integrated Valuation of Environmental Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) model. Additionally, the Coastal Modeling System (SMC-Brasil) was used for hydrodynamic and hydrosedimentary modeling. The results indicate a significant increase in the average shoreline mobility in the recent period (2014–2023), with intensified variation rates. In areas with greater anthropogenic influence, the mean erosion rate reached -14.55 m/year. Modeling revealed an increase in the mean wave energy flux beginning in the 1980s, as well as changes in the propagation vector of the wave climate. In critical sites, such as Monte Alegre beach, the longshore sediment transport was estimated at approximately -240,698.25 m³/year. It was found that dunes and sandy beach systems provide effective buffering and morphodynamic resilience, reducing erosion risks. The prognostic assessment indicates a scenario of severe risk for coastal developments, reinforcing that the conservation of these habitats is essential for the balance and resilience of the coastal zone, requiring integrated strategies and effective management measures.
