The objective of this research is to understand compositional and stylistic elements of the work
The Caprípede Castanho (2021), by composer Danilo Guanais (1965), whose characteristics
suggest the environment of Armorial Music. The composer also uses characteristic elements of
20th century music such as Polytonality, Serialism, Minimalism, Polyrhythmia and
Asymmetry. Aspects of manifestations of Northeastern popular culture are present in the work,
such as Caboclinhos and Incelênça de Tibau do Sul, in Rio Grande do Norte, as well as
Maracatu de Baque Virado, in Pernambuco. Based on a literature review, interviews, participant
observation in rehearsals and recitals, with a group of 13 wind and percussion players, this work
provides a description and analysis of the interpretive practice.
