This expansion has been driven by public policies and the ideals of sustainability. In this context, nature and geodiversity have become key elements in the creation of new tourism products, particularly in the Agreste Potiguar highlands and the Seridó Geopark. This study aimed to analyze the adherence of tourist municipalities in the Regional Governance Instances (IGR) of the Agreste Potiguar and Seridó to the sustainability principles outlined in the 2030 Agenda, with a focus on promoting local value. The methodology included bibliographic and documentary research, secondary data collection, questionnaires, interviews, and fieldwork. The results revealed an overall unsatisfactory performance regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with most indicators showing weaknesses. Although some environmental-related SDGs showed relatively better outcomes, all municipalities analyzed remain at a low level of sustainable development. The most critical indicators are found in the social, economic, and governance dimensions. In terms of local value, there is clear evidence that municipalities are adopting practices that promote culture and strengthen community identity, especially through handicrafts and gastronomy. The most consistent results were observed in the Seridó region. However, challenges remain, including limited product diversity, weak organizational structures, and infrastructure deficits. This research contributes to understanding the current state of tourism in inland areas of the state and supports future initiatives focused on improving tourism practices through sustainability and local value enhancement, aligned with the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda.
