| Portuguese Abstract: | O ponto de partida desse trabalho é o da humanização dos animais de estimação. Em geral, ela é discutida a partir da ideia de que estendemos a eles aquilo que para nós é tomado como cultura. No entanto, nesse trabalho, a partir da descrição de um procedimento clínico para a retirada de cálculos renais de um gato gordo, o que se passa a questionar é que as equivalências que marcam as continuidades entre humanos e animais em contextos urbanos se valem igualmente daquilo que valorizamos por natureza. Nesse sentido, o objetivo é mostrar que algumas transformações recentes nas relações entre humanos e animais, especialmente ligadas a novas formas de diagnóstico e tratamento medicalizado fornecem mais do que propriedades simbólicas sobre os animais, tomadas como meios para pensar as sociedades humanas. Antes, elas permitem repensar o lugar dos animais na composição disso que chamamos de social e, por conseguinte, no lugar deles no debate antropológico contemporâneo. |
| Abstract: | The starting point of this work is the anthropomorfi zation of pets. The discussion usually brings about the idea that we extend to them what we consider culture. However, this paper tries to fi nd out, from the description of a clinical procedure for removing kidney stones from a fat cat, the equivalences that characterize continuities between humans and animals in urban contexts, and if it is also applied to what we value as nature. Moreover, in this sense, the goal of this research is to show that some recent changes in the relations between humans and animals, especially related to new forms of diagnosis and medical treatment, provide more than symbolic properties on animals taken as means to think about human societies. Nevertheless, they allow rethinking the place of animals in the composition of what we call social and their place in the contemporary anthropological debate. |
