Portuguese Abstract:	Espera-se que a ausência de filhos aumente no futuro entre as brasileiras. Segundo dados da Pesquisa Nacional de Demografia e Saúde (PNDS) (Ministério da Saúde, 2009), o número de mulheres brasileiras que permaneceram sem filhos vem aumentando no Brasil em quase todos os grupos etários. Dentre as mulheres que não têm filhos existem aquelas que são voluntariamente sem filhos, ou seja, mulheres que não querem ter filhos por escolha, sem reportar limitação biológica. Nesse contexto, o seguinte trabalho tem como objetivo analisar características econômicas, demográficas e de gênero associados à não maternidade voluntária no Brasil. Para o desenvolvimento do trabalho foram utilizados os dados da Pesquisa Nacional de Demografia e Saúde (PNDS) para o ano de 2006. A metodologia consiste em uma análise descritiva, com fins de identificar as principais características econômicas, demográficas e as relações de gênero das mulheres que não querem ter filhos, e se existe predominância das mulheres que não querem ter filhos em grupos específicos da sociedade, e um modelo de regressão logística binária, a fim de entender a influência de tais características na decisão de ter ou não filhos. Idade, escolaridade, renda e o desejo reprodutivo do companheiro se mostraram significativas para as mulheres que não desejam ter filhos. Sendo assim, diante do aumento do número de mulheres que não querem ter filhos e dos níveis de fecundidade cada vez menores e com tendência de queda, torna-se essencial entender o contexto e as preferências reprodutivas das mulheres que não querem ter filhos.
Abstract:	It is expected that the absence of children will increase in the future among Brazilian women. According to data from the National Demography and Health Survey (Ministério da Saúde, 2009), the number of Brazilian women who remained childless has been increasing in Brazil in almost all age groups. Among women who do not have children there are those who are voluntarily childless, that is, women who do not want to have children by choice, without reporting biological limitations. In this context, the following work aims to analyze economic, demographic and gender characteristics associated with voluntary non-maternity in Brazil. For the development of the work, data from the National Demography and Health Survey (PNDS) for 2006 were used. The methodology consists of a descriptive analysis, in order to identify the main economic, demographic and gender relations of women who do not want to have children, and whether there is a predominance of women who do not want to have children in specific groups in society, and a binary logistic regression model, in order to understand the influence of such characteristics on the decision to have children or not. Age, education, income and the partner’s reproductive desire were significant for women who do not wish to have children. Therefore, in view of the increase in the number of women who do not want to have children and the declining fertility levels that are falling and falling, it is essential to understand the reproductive context and preferences of women who do not want to have children.
