Abstract

The June Dancess are, in current times, an important sector of culture, but also as a business of popular culture in northeastern Brazil, which suffered a great impact during the pandemic period. In this way, the research aims to understand the conditions and adaptations that the June gangs of RN have been having to overcome the marks of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the specific objectives of historically contextualizing the movement of gangsters in the state of RN; present the impacts of COVID-19 on the attraction and the gang business; identify which strategies of overcoming presented by the June gangs. A qualitative methodology was used in the research, through interviews with representatives of some June gangs. As a main result, we emphasize that these gangs are an important feature of northeastern/Brazilian popular culture and that they have contemporary elements in their formulation. From the perspective of the reality of COVID-19, these gangs suffered and sought some ways of adapting, such as holding lives and virtual meetings. Currently, they have managed to overcome the difficulties and strengthen themselves as a group that spreads the June gangs movement in RN.
