dc.description.resumoIn this work, CdW(1−x)Mo(x)O4 (where x = 0 mol.%, 0.25 mol.%, 0.5 mol.%, 0.75 mol.% and 1 mol.%) structures were synthesized by microwave-assisted hydrothermal and solvothermal methods. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), photoluminescence (PL) and zeta potential analyses were used to characterize the samples. The diffractograms and FESEM images indicated that the solvothermal process, using polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) as a solvent, impairs the formation of the CdWO4 phase and inhibits the growth of specific morphologies of CdWO4 and CdMoO4, compared to hydrothermal synthesis. The use of PEG-400 as a solvent also provided the particles with a smaller crystallite size, so that, consequently, they have a higher bandgap energy. The photocatalysis curves indicate that the CdMoO4 phase has the best degradation capacity of methylene blue (MB) dye, resulting in the lowest recombination rate of the e−/h+ pairs visualized in the PL curves. Thus, it is clear that PEG-400 can be used as a means for dimensional control, either of the crystallites or even of the CdWO4 and CdMoO4 particles
