Method: Systematic review conducted by searching for experimental studies in PubMed, SciELO, SCOPUS, and Web of Science. Eight experimental studies that addressed the practice of strength training during pregnancy were included. Results: Pregnant women who performed strength training had lower fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels, improved feelings of fatigue and physical and mental energy, better blood pressure levels, and better adherence when compared to pregnant women who practiced another type of physical activity or remained inactive during pregnancy. Regarding fetal parameters, the fetuses of pregnant women who practiced strength training had significantly higher weight and length, APGAR scores greater than or equal to 9 in the first and fifth minutes, and decreased arterial Doppler indices, which suggests an improvement in fetal perfusion. Regarding the outcome of labor, there was no change in the type of delivery or gestational age. It is worth noting that no adverse events occurred during or after the intervention period. Conclusion: Strength training proved to be effective in improving physical, clinical, and psychological conditions and in the occurrence of a labor with a healthy outcome. It is suggested that further studies be carried out to reinforce its positive impacts and safety.Attribution 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/br/gravidezpregnancytreinamento resistidoresistance trainingpartolaborEfeitos do treinamento de força na gestante: uma revisão sistemáticaEffects of strength training on pregnant women: a systematic reviewbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEM
