From this perspective, it was made a study with the purpose to understand the relation between city and industry in the contextureof the urban phenomenon in Jardim de Piranhas/RN and, more specifically, to evidence its historical, population and economical aspects, to describe the development stages of the textile industries in the town, to characterize the local textile industry, to evaluate the repercussions of this activity in the labor market and demonstrate the cartography of Jardim de Piranhas’ textile industry within the mentioned space. The procedures utilized correspond to bibliographic research and historiographical, documentary research, field research through interviews, forms application, photographic records and the use of GPS (Global Positioning System). The results indicate that in Jardim de Piranhas exists a great contexture between urban phenomenon and textile activity, which characterize itself as one of the major sources of employment, work and population income, assuming relevance to the local and regional (Seridó) economy by stimulating trade and articulations with different locations, not only in the Potiguar territory but also in other Brazilian states. The influence of this activity in Jardim de Piranhas goes beyond the economic realm, projecting itself in the spatial organization of the city, being an important segment in urban dynamics. The textile industry, which is found dispersed in every neighborhood in the city, has been modernized and it has expanded its consumer market. However, this process has generated particularities in the jardinense urban scenario that stand out as differentials both positive, such as labor supply and employment that by its turn the admeasurement of incomes higher than a minimum wage, and negative there are the examples of social and environmental problems that compromise health and life quality of those who work in the factories or live nearby them.openAccessAtividade têxtilCidadeFenômeno UrbanoIndústriabachelorThesis
