However, breastfeeding rates still fall short of recommendations. Mammary candidiasis, an opportunistic fungal infection, is cited as a possible factor associated with early weaning. This study reviewed the literature on mammary candidiasis in lactating women and its impact on early weaning. A search was conducted in the Medline/PUBMED, Web of Science, and Lilacs databases using DeCS/MeSH descriptors. Studies published in English and Portuguese between 2014 and 2024 were included, with exclusion criteria for duplicate articles and those not related to the topic. Study selection was conducted by two researchers following the PRISMA protocol, using a table to extract information such as author, year, objective, methodology, results, and conclusions. Mammary candidiasis, an opportunistic fungal infection, is cited as a possible factor associated with early weaning.
