Its production chain generates a high level of employability. However, it is a sector that presents relevant environmental aspects in all production stages, with emphasis on industrial effluents and solid waste produced in its transformation process. Thus, this study aims to discuss the main environmental impacts associated with the textile industry, through a bibliographic review. For this purpose, a literature search was carried out using the descriptors: “Textile Industry”; “Environmental Aspects”; “Environmental Impacts”; “Solid Waste Management”; “Effluent Treatment” and “Environmental Management”, on the Science Direct, Scielo and Capes platforms. 19 full texts were selected and submitted to analysis using the following techniques: Zipf Diagram; Simple Lexical Analysis; Similitude Analysis; Correspondence Factor Analysis and Descending Hierarchical Classification. The most relevant and frequent words were: “textile” (63); “industry” (47), water (33) and waste (30). These were grouped into classes according to the chi-square association (χ2), with the following clusters being observed: (textile χ2 = 25.08; nanoparticle χ2 = 18.41); (water χ2 = 32.94; dye χ2 = 35.27) and (environmental χ2 = 05.45; sustainable χ2 = 20.24). Therefore, there was correspondence between the analyzed texts and correlations were found, with a chi-square higher than 3.84.
