Avaliação da prevalência de síndrome metabólica e seus biomarcadores em uma população jovem de um interior do Rio Grande do Norte. 2020. 61 f. This is a cross-sectional quantitative study conducted with individuals aged 16-24 years with risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Anthropometric and biochemical data were collected. Descriptive and inferential analysis of data was performed using SPSS 23.0, Pearson's correlation between biochemical and anthropometric indices, with a significance level of p <0.05 and simple linear regression. The prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome was defined using criteria of the National Cholesterol Educacion Program's Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III) and cutoff points of the Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) and cardiovascular risk using the Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP) and the Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR). Metabolic syndrome was observed in 9.1% of the population using the NCEP-ATP III criteria and in 21.2% using VAI. The population's cardiovascular risk was 18.2% by LAP and 12.1% by WHtR. The strongest correlations observed were between LAP and VAI (r = 0.675, p = <0.001, R² = 0.456), between LAP and WHtR (r = 0.875, p = <0.001, R² = 0.765) and between VAI and triglycerides (r = 0.817, p = <0.001, R² = 0.688). The linear regression analysis showed that one variable predicted the others in the three cases. The conclusion is that the study showed a high prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome for the target audience and that VAI, LAP and WHtR can be good options to assess the cardiometabolic profile and predict cardiovascular risk.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/Doenças cardiovascularesFatores de riscoJovensSíndrome MetabólicaAvaliação da prevalência de síndrome metabólica e seus biomarcadores em uma população jovem de um interior do Rio Grande do NorteEvaluation of the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its biomarkers in a young population in a city of Rio Grande do NortebachelorThesis
