Based on these aspects, the problem of this research is: "What factors contribute to the non-participation of female students in physical education?" The general objective is to analyze the factors that contribute to this withdrawal of students from physical education classes in a school located in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte and, based on the results obtained, to plan and carry out an intervention with them as active participants in high school physical education classes. To do this, we used the concept of open classes. This descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, is a participant intervention research. The setting is a public high school located in the city of São Tomé, Rio Grande do Norte. The study population consisted of two high school sophomore classes that met in the afternoon. The sample consisted of approximately 22 students between the ages of 15 and 18 who were invited to participate in the research during physical education classes. The data collection techniques were a questionnaire and a field diary. Content analysis (Bardin, 2016) was used to analyze the data. In this study, we found that students' withdrawal from physical education classes involves multiple factors that cannot be solved by teaching alone, such as the school's physical structure. However, the methodologies employed can attract students to this discipline.
