In Brazil, the National Solid Waste Policy was instituted by Federal Law No. 12,305/2010, and brought a set of principles, goals, actions and objectives. One of the main challenges is the creation of an integrated management plan and the environmentally appropriate destination in the municipalities. In this research, we seek to analyze the implementation process of integrated solid waste management in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante/RN, in the light of the National Solid Waste Policy. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, this research considered the use of bibliographical and documental research on the generation of solid waste, as well as conducting interviews with the main actors involved in the management of solid waste in the municipality studied. In conclusion, we found that the management of solid waste in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante/RN boils down to a system that aims more at operability to keep the city clean with the collection and final disposal sent to the landfill, without any actions preventive.
