The work stems from encounters between an unemployed designer and a publisher employee in which the man tells the woman his experiences with prostitutes. In first-person narration, the woman elaborates on the wide gaps in the reports and builds a plot full of betrayal, power disputes and emptiness. The central goal of this work is to investigate how the meanings related to the self-perception of the narrator in the novel are established and operated. More specifically, it aims: understand some of the articulations of how narration works in the novel; build a critical reading of the novel based on the narration; and, finally, to deepen studies on the novel and the theory of narrative. To rescue the concept of narrator, Benjamin (1987) was referenced; for a better understanding of the narrator in the contemporary novel, Adorno (2003) was consulted. To deepen the understanding of the postmodern narrator, Santiago (1989) was verified, complemented by Friedman (2002) about the narrator-witness and the point of view in fiction. Strauss (1999) was consulted in order to conceptually support the analysis of the work surrounding self-assessment and the course of action.
