In 2020, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, causing academic activi-ties at UFRN to be interrupted in the middle of March. Faced with the impossi-bility of conducting in-person outreach activities with the theme of education and he-alth, this extension group created an Instagram profile, which is a powerful tool and has a high reach, to disseminate secure information about the pandemic. The goal is to help the public in understanding this new disease, since Brazil and the world suffer with widespread fake news. The profile provides informational posts about COVID-19, in addition to live transmission with expert professionals, who answer questions and thus help to solve the doubts of viewers. Therefore, through the study and commitment of the students and advisor that feed this Instagram account, it is possible to bring daily reliable information about COVID-19 to the public

The capitalist economic model based on consumption and economic growthhas led to the generation of large volume of solid waste, that gave rise to theactivity of recyclable waste picker. The objective of this study was to evaluatesome environmental and social risks and their repercussion on the health ofrecyclable waste pickers from Natal-RN cooperatives. An instrument wasapplied with questions about socioeconomic, environmental and health aspectsof the collectors. The results showed that housing conditions related to graywater disposal were significantly associated with the frequency of diarrhea(p=0.04). The availability of PPE was considered insufficient and should beassociated with a frequency of 38.6% of cut-type accidents. The most frequentlyreported diseases were headache, spinal problems, vision problems, diarrheaand varicose veins, with respective frequencies of 71.0%; 67.1%; 37.7%; 34.3%and 24.3%. The vision and spinal problems and varicose veins were significantly more frequent in women than in men (p=0.02, p=0.03 e p=0.001,respectively). The unhealthy conditions of this activity, predispose to theappearance and / or worsening of health problems of these workers

The objective of the present study was establishing the socio-economic profile of the active garbage pickers, organized in two cooperatives in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte state, Northeast of Brazil. A questionnaire compounded of objective questions, was applied to 70 active garbage pickers Results have shown that 58,6% of the garbage pickers are women and 41,4% are men; 37,1% are between 18 and 29 years old, 50% are between 30 and 45 years old and 14,3% are older than 46 years old. Concerning the educational level, 10% are completely illiterate, 72,9% have not completed the elementary school degree. Related to the number of workers per family, in 37,1% of the cases, only the garbage picker works in the family and in 58,6% of the families two people work, one of them the garbage picker himself. With regard to family income,, 47,1% earn less than a national minimum salary and the same percentage earns between one and two national minimum salaries; 50% receive the “Bolsa Família” as a social benefit and 17,1% has another activity to complement their income. The predominant kind of housing is the brick laid houses corresponding to 92,9% and 62,9% live in their own housing. The knowledge about the socio-economic data of the garbage pickers can be used as a basis for actions which may result in strengthening the productive chain of the solid residues

The objective of this study was the census of the collectors of recyclable materials, organized in cooperatives in Natal, considering socioeconomic, demographic and health aspects, as well as the perception of these workers about this job and the risks associated with it. An instrument consisting of objective and discursive items was applied to 70 active waste collectors in 2012, which corresponds to a census. This was done with prior approval of the directors of each cooperative, and the agreement of each respondent, whosigned a consent document. Results are expressed in percentage terms, according to the cooperative and to the gender of the respondent

This article aims to present the system of selective collection in Natal/RN, as well as to characterize the physical and human resources of the two cooperatives of recyclable materials from the city, in the years 2012 and 2013. Such characterization occurred through a investigation of reality. The research consisted of a case study applied in nature exploratory and descriptive, with the methodological tools technical visits and semi structured interviews; from which we could obtain data regarding the history of selective collection, but also about various aspects of cooperatives. Based on the research, it is clear that cooperatives have a precarious structure that directly affects the development of the activity and the quality of life of collectors involved in the recycling chain.

The objective of the present study was to determine the association of sand flies with the presence of domestic and wild animals in the peridomiciliary area. The sand flies were collected using direct aspi- ration and CDC light traps placed in animal shelters. The results suggest that different sand flies species have different behavioral characteristics in an apparent preference for animal baits and that Lutzomyia longipalpis and Lu. evandroi were the most eclectic species regarding their biotope choice. Lu. longipalpis showed a distinct preference for horses and Lu. evandroi for armadillos
