Article Mucocele de etmoide posterior simulando neurite óptica: relato de caso(Research, Society And Development, 2022) Brito, Paulo Santiago de Morais; Bedaque, Henrique de Paula; Araújo, Ana Beatriz Seabra Santos de; Aquino, Bárbara Cristina Vieira de; Lana, Flávia Pelinsari; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0010-7217Mucoceles are cystic formations that can occur in different topographies in the nasal cavity, especially in the region of the frontal sinus and ethmoid cells, leading to a clinic due to its local compressive effect and presents surgery as the main form of therapeutic management. The objective of this case report is to describe the clinical picture of a young male with a mucocele in the region of posterior ethmoid cells who opened his symptom clinic simulating the findings of an optic neuritis, leading to a clinic of visual loss on the side right. After the initial treatment with corticosteroids did not show clinical results, the imaging exam was able to identify the classic radiological description of a mucocele, transforming the diagnosis and treatment of the patient. In conclusion, it is suggested that the case presented is a reference in the process of building diagnostic hypotheses within a thought in optic neuritis, always raising the need to think about mucocele, and we reiterate that the surgical treatment is the choice in the management of these patients.Article Ferramentas de e-learning para melhoria do aprendizado em medicina(Revista Brasileira de Inovação Tecnológica em Saúde, 2013-12-20) Oliveira, Ricardo José Fonseca de; Silva, Afonso Xavier Gomes da; Brigido, Alexandra Régia Dantas; Mafaldo, Rafaella Santos; Paula, Vitor Tavares; Diniz Junior, José; Diniz, Rosiane Viana ZuzaIntroduction: The information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been increasingly used in the context of education and are becoming important tools to aid the process of teaching and learning in health. Interactive Spaced Education (ISE) is emerging as an innovative method for optimizing learning in health. Objective: To investigate the medical student’s perceptions about the use of ISE as a tool for e-learning to improve student learning of sociology. Methods: This descriptive study with 98 students enrolled in curriculum component "Introduction to Clinical Examination" of medical school. The students receivedISE components containing items relating to cardiovascular and respiratory symptomatology, twice a week for 13 weeks. At the end of 13 weeks, the students answereda semi-structured online questionnaire containing a 5 pointsLikert scaleitemsbesidesopen questions to evaluate the use of the ISE tool toimprovelearning in semiology. Results: The response rate to the online questionnaire was 67.4%(N = 66). The mean age of participants was 20.9 ± 2.2 years,with a male prevalenceof 54.5 %. The majority of participants considered thatISE contributed to their learning (98.5%, N = 65).For 37 subjects (59,1%) this contribution was concerned aboutthe theoretical and practical learning. The twice a week frequency of ISE form release was considered good to 43,9% subjects (N = 29). All students would indicate the ISE to other students as a way of learning. Conclusions: The ISE was well accepted as ane-learningtooland considered important to student’s learning. This study aimed at evaluating the interference of splenectomy on phytate-Tc-99m biodistribution and liver function in rats. The SP group rats (n=6) underwent splenectomy. In group C (control) the animals were not operated on. After 15 days, all rats were injected with 0.1mL of Tc-99m-phytate via orbital plexus (0.66MBq). After 30 minutes, liver samples were harvested, weighed and the percentage of radioactivity per gram (%ATI-g) was determined by a Wizard Perkin-Elme gama counter. The ATI%-g in splenectomized rats (0.99±0.02) was significantly higher than in controls (0.4±0.02), (p=0.034). ALT, AST and HDL were significantly lower in SP rats (p= 0.001) and leukocytosis was observed in SP rats. Na grande maioria dos pacientes o tumor é diagnosticado em fase avançada, comumente na presença de doença metastática. A introdução de modernos métodos diagnósticos associados ao aperfeiçoamento dos já existentes tem gerado controvérsia quanto à melhor maneira de se estabelecer o diagnóstico e estadiamento do tumor. Da mesma forma, o papel da cirurgia na paliação e aspectos técnicos da ressecção de lesões localizadas estão longe de alcançarem consenso na prática. Método - Revisão da literatura sobre os aspectos controversos relacionados ao tema e um algoritmo para a abordagem dos pacientes com suspeita de tumor de pâncreas são apresentados. Foram utilizados os descritores: “adenocarcinoma” e “pâncreas” para pesquisa no PubMed (www.pubmed.com) e na Bireme (www.bireme.br) e a seguir selecionadas as publicações pertinentes a cada tópico escolhido com atenção especial para metanálises, estudos clínicos controlados, revisões sitemáticas e ainda publicações de grandes centros especializados em doenças pancreáticas. Conclusões - Na suspeita de adenocarcinoma de pâncreas é possível realizar estadiamento muito próximo do real sem a necessidade da exploração cirúrgica sistemática em virtude da disponibilidade na prática de exames modernos e eficientes. Isso permite que paliação menos invasiva seja praticada na maioria dos pacientes com lesões avançadas e incuráveis. Nos em que a cura é possível, a operação deve ser realizada objetivando-se, essencialmente, a remoção da lesão com margens livres e com aceitáveis índices de morbi-mortalidadeArticle Biodistribution of the radiophamarceutical sodium pertechnetate (Na99mTcO4) after massive small bowel resection in rats(2007) Chacon, Dâmaso de Araújo; Araújo Filho, Irami; Villarim Neto, Arthur; Rêgo, Amália Cínthia Meneses; Azevedo, Ítalo Medeiros; Bernardo Filho, Mário; Brandão Neto, José; Medeiros, Aldo CunhaTo evaluate the biodistribution of sodium pertecnetate (Na99mTcO4) in organs and tissues, the morphometry of remnant intestinal mucosa and ponderal evolution in rats subjected to massive resection of the small intestine. Methods: Twenty-one Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups of 7 animals each. The short bowel (SB) group was subjected to massive resection of the small intestine; the control group (C) rats were not operated on, and soft intestinal handling was performed in sham rats. The animals were weighed weekly. On the 30th postoperative day, 0.l mL of Na99mTcO4, with mean activity of 0.66 MBq was injected intravenously into the orbital plexus. After 30 minutes, the rats were killed with an overdose of anesthetic, and fragments of the liver, spleen, pancreas, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, thyroid, lung, heart, kidney, bladder, muscle, femur and brain were harvested. The biopsies were washed with 0.9% NaCl.,The radioactivity was counted using Gama Counter WizardTM 1470, PerkinElmer. The percentage of radioactivity per gram of tissue (%ATI-g) was calculated. Biopsies of the remaining jejunum were analysed by HE staining to obtain mucosal thickness. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey test for multiple comparisons were used, considering p<0.05 as signifi cant. Results: There were no signifi cant differences in %ATI-g of the Na99mTcO4 in the organs of the groups studied (p>0.05). An increase in the weight of the SB rats was observed after the second postoperative week. The jejunal mucosal thickness of the SB rats was signifi cantly greater than that of C and sham rats (p<0.05). Conclusion: In rats with experimentally-produced short bowel syndrome, an adaptive response by the intestinal mucosa reduced weight loss. The animals were separated in the groups: splenectomy (n = 6) and control (n = 6). After splenectomy (15 days), the administration of 0.1ml of 99mTc-DMSA IV (0.48 MBq) was carried out. Thirty minutes later, kidney, heart, lung, thyroid, stomach, bladder and femur and samples of blood were isolated. The organs were weighed, counted and the percentage of radioactivity -g (%ATI-g) determined. Serum urea and creatinine, hematocrit, leukocytes and platelets were measured. Statistics by t test (p<0.05) was done. There was a significant reduction in %ATI-g in kidney and blood (p<0.05) of splenectomized animals, a significant increase (p<0.05) of urea (88.8 ± 18.6 mg-dL) and creatinine (0.56 ± 0.08 mg-dL), compared to the controls (51.5±1.6, 0.37±0.02mg-dL, respectively), as well as increase in platelets and leucocytes, and hematocrit reduction.
