This dissertation investigates the reaction of the Brazilian capital market to sustainable bond issuances by companies with shares traded on B3. Using event study methodology and a sample of 62 issuances conducted between 2015 and 2024, the research measures cumulative abnormal returns across multiple time windows around the issuance date. Results reveal a systematic pattern of negative abnormal returns, with an average cumulative abnormal return of -1.71% in the 21-trading-day window around the event, statistically significant at the 5% level. This finding contrasts markedly with predominant evidence from developed markets, where green bond issuances typically generate positive or neutral abnormal returns. Spillover analysis on 248 observations of competitor firms identifies no significant impacts, suggesting that the market interprets sustainable bond issuances as idiosyncratic decisions with limited sectoral implications. Robustness analyses confirm stability of main results to alternative estimation period specifications and exclusion of confounding events. Subperiod analysis suggests possible deterioration in market perception of sustainable issuances after 2020, with more negative abnormal returns in the recent period. Findings have relevant implications for companies considering sustainable bond issuance, investors evaluating these issuances, and regulators developing policies to foster the Brazilian green bond market. The study contributes to sustainable finance literature by documenting the first systematic empirical evidence on market reactions to green bonds in Brazil and by demonstrating that patterns observed in developed markets do not automatically generalize to an emerging market context with distinct institutional characteristics.

Information and communication technology (ICT), especially online social networks, has been expanding and making relationships increasingly virtual, generating online social capital. These bonds enable socialization, cooperation, and mutual assistance, which reduces the desire to leave the organization. The information technology (IT) profession is characterized by dynamism and high mobility, which leads some professionals to permanently abandon the profession. Furthermore, it is a field particularly marked by significant gender inequality, namely a male culture. Studies show that this inequality hinders career advancement and job retention. In this context, this study seeks to analyze the impact of online social capital and male culture on IT professionals' turnover intentions and intentions to leave the profession. Research on online social capital and turnover intentions lacks depth, especially when related to male culture and IT. No studies were found in the literature, thus highlighting the novelty and relevance of this research. The study was conducted with 313 professionals working in the IT field in Brazil, using a non-probabilistic, intentional sample. The research is classified as descriptive with a quantitative approach, using closed-ended questionnaires with a six-point Likert scale, administered online, as data collection instruments. Data processing was based on exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), as well as mediation analysis using the structural equation modeling (SEM) module. The analysis was performed using Jasp software. The results indicate that online bonding social capital, formed by networks with strong ties, influences turnover intentions and turnaway, mediated by male culture. However, no influence was identified from bridging social capital, composed of networks with weak ties. Furthermore, online social capital does not directly influence turnover intentions. Thus, male culture is highly relevant, as it is through it that bonding social capital can influence IT professionals' intention to leave, highlighting the importance of diversity and gender equality in the workplace. Our contribution is to encourage organizations to transform these findings into strategies using online social capital to reduce male culture and, consequently, turnover and abandonment intentions in the IT profession. Furthermore, it fills a theoretical gap by pioneering the simultaneous discovery of these four variables.

This study analyzed the Metropolitan Region of Natal through the lens of the aerotropolis construct proposed by John D. Kasarda, aiming to assess its applicability and identify the components associated with the model. It is based on the premise that industrial competition increasingly occurs among supply chains, which reinforces the strategic relevance of Supply Chain Management. Within this context, the aerotropolis concept relies on the expansion of the industrial airport and airport city models, driven by the growing importance of accessibility and intermodal connections for the efficient flow of goods and people. The empirical case focused on Natal International Airport, whose re-bidding process, concluded in 2024 by the National Civil Aviation Agency, transferred the management of more than 1,400 hectares in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Rio Grande do Norte, to Zurich Airport. Employing an exploratorydescriptive design, the research adopted a qualitative approach based on a single/combined case study, bibliographic and documentary analysis, and interviews with experts and a local exporter. The findings indicate that socioeconomic factors — such as income level and industrial structure — significantly influence air connectivity and investment attractiveness, underscoring the need for public policies that strengthen the productive base and promote sustainable aviation fuel production. Although the model has not yet fully materialized in the local context, promising elements were identified for regional development and the future consolidation of an aerotropolis. This study contributes to the literature by advancing the debate on the applicability of the construct in emerging economies and by proposing a research agenda.

Research, Development, and Innovation (R&D&I) projects can generate significant economic and social impacts while driving knowledge advancement through the creation of new technologies and innovations. Although the scientific literature on the success of such projects is extensive, it still lacks a holistic perspective. In this regard, studies that deepen the discussion and broaden the understanding of this topic are necessary. Within this context, the present investigation aims to identify and analyze the dimensions and success factors of R&D&I projects in order to propose a model for managing R&D&I success, considering environmental influences. This study adopts a mixed-methods approach, beginning with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), whose results revealed a wide variety of factors and criteria influencing project performance. These were organized into three main dimensions: negotiation success, process success, and results success. Furthermore, the analysis highlighted the relevance of internal and external environmental conditions, which play a decisive role in achieving success in R&D&I. These findings led to the development of a theoretical framework, subsequently subjected to qualitative empirical validation in the contexts of Brazil and the United States, and quantitative validation in the Brazilian context. During the validation process, qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with Brazilian and American experts to deepen the discussion of each success dimension and its relationship with environmental factors. These data were analyzed using Directed Content Analysis. Quantitative data, in turn, were obtained through a survey conducted exclusively with Brazilian experts and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The qualitative and quantitative results confirmed the theoretical and practical validity and applicability of the proposed framework, providing relevant contributions to both the scientific advancement of the field and practical applications in the R&D&I domain.

The rise of the sharing economy, driven by Industry 4.0 and the "platformization" of services, has significantly transformed the hospitality sector. While platforms like Airbnb generate billions of dollars globally, their impacts in developing countries remain largely unexplored. This study aimed to analyze the challenges and dilemmas of consumer relationships generated by Airbnb in the city of Natal, Brazil, through the lens of Transformative Service Research (TSR). The research employed a mixed-method case study, combining data scraping from the platform with interviews and participant observation. The empirical analysis focused on four TSR domains: territorial, sociological, commercial, and institutional. The findings indicate that Airbnb's presence in Natal raises complex dilemmas for the sustainable and balanced development of the local ecosystem. Territorial implications include the verticalization of the city and real estate speculation, while the commercial sphere shows the creation of jobs and income, along with the opening of new markets. From a sociological perspective, there are changes insocial dynamics within tourist neighborhoods and the risk of gentrification. Finally, institutional challenges involve the need for monitoring and for tax and legal regulation of public policies that balance the interests of all actors in the tourism industry. This thesis contributes to the debate by characterizing Airbnb's impacts within the tourism context of one of Brazil's most popular destinations. It highlights the complexity of the phenomenon for the development of similar tourist destinations and initiates a deeper discussion on the topic at the state level.

The expansion of multichannel retail strategies into an omnichannel logic represents one of the most significant transformations in contemporary business practices. This perspective entails a paradigm shift by integrating customer touchpoints, making them complementary and building a fluid, non-linear, and customer-centered purchase journey. Although omnichannel adoption has proven effective in terms of organizational results, it also poses relevant challenges, particularly because it simultaneously encompasses logistics and marketing dimensions. These challenges reinforce the need for studies that propose an integrated analysis of the interface between these two areas, with emphasis on the logistical risks involved in the omnichannel customer journey. In addition, recent literature highlights the importance of developing instruments capable of measuring the outcomes and efficiency of this journey. In this context, this dissertation aimed to develop a theoretical multidimensional scale capable of jointly assessing customer experience and logistics risks along the omnichannel journey. The proposal aligns with recent studies (Radomska et al., 2025; Gasparin & Slongo, 2023), which advocate for more robust metrics to evaluate operational efficiency and the risks associated with omnichannel retail. The research was structured in three stages: a theoretical review of the omnichannel concept at the marketing–logistics interface; an analysis of practices and patterns identified in published case studies; and a conceptual systematization of the dimensions, culminating in the proposal of a multidimensional theoretical scale. The final outcome presents a scale composed of three dimensions derived from the reviews. The first, related to marketing, is named customer experience; the second, focused on logistical aspects, is defined as logistics risks; and the third, with an integrative nature, is defined as purchase journey, encompassing both operational logistics and marketing strategies in a combined framework.

Given educational inequality, which reflects social disparities in Brazil, funding policies and the allocation of financial resources emerge as relevant factors in the context of basic education. Investigating how these resources are used, as well as their effects on educational outcomes, is essential. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of these policies and financial resources on the structure of basic education in Brazil. To this end, the thesis is organized into three essays. Essay 1 conducts a systematic review of the literature on the relationship between school spending and educational performance, covering 45 studies from various databases published between 2015 and 2022. The findings indicate positive effects of spending on academic performance, especially for disadvantaged groups, although most analyses focus on developed countries. The review suggests that studies in less developed contexts, such as Brazil, may lead to different implications. Essay 2 investigates the effects of the new Fundeb, implemented in 2021, on municipal educational indicators in Brazil, using a simulated difference-in-differences model with data from 2017 to 2023. Treating the policy as an exogenous event, municipalities were classified as big winners, big losers, and neutral, based on their net Fundeb balance. The results show that big winners presented improvements in early-grade IDEB scores, Portuguese language scores, and reductions in age-grade distortion, along with a slight increase in enrollment in early childhood education. In contrast, big losers experienced an increase in age-grade distortion. These findings suggest that the redistribution of resources through the new Fundeb may contribute to improving the quality of basic education. Essay 3 examines the effects of the policy on educational inequalities across municipalities, combining the Theil-T index with a simulated difference-in-differences model for the 2017–2023 period. The analysis covers inequalities in access, infrastructure, and student performance, focusing on the same groups of municipalities. The results indicate progress in reducing disparities in access and infrastructure, especially in childcare and early grades, although challenges persist in later grades. The Fundeb update suggests redistributive effects that still warrant further investigation. The three essays contribute to the analysis of the impacts of funding policies and financial resources on Brazilian education, providing evidence to support interventions aimed at promoting greater equity and quality within the education system.

The study analyzed the use of innovation marathons, such as hackathons and ideathons, as strategic tools to foster open innovation within the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (RFEPCT), based on the analysis of their public calls for proposals. These events, grounded in intensive collaboration among participants, seek solutions to specific challenges and, when well planned, function as strategic instruments that contribute to generating real value for the organization. This qualitative research employed a systematized documentary analysis of the calls for proposals published by institutions within the Network across all Brazilian states between 2023 and 2024. The aim was to examine the strategic elements present in the design of the events, as expressed in the calls, such as objectives, proposed challenges, target audience, incentives, and alignment with institutional guidelines. The results indicate that, in practice, the main focus of these initiatives tends to fall on the individual development of participants, particularly in stimulating creativity, entrepreneurial skills, and problem-solving abilities. As a result, the institutional dimension of innovation—such as internal changes in culture, processes, services, or the structure of the organizing institution—is often less explored or intentionally structured within these events, weakening their effectiveness as tools for open innovation. Thus, it is concluded that, although these initiatives have the potential to generate public value and strengthen the culture of innovation within the RFEPCT, their impact remains limited.

(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-02-27) Marques, Jessica Janaina Santos; Sampaio, Luciano Menezes Bezerra; Sampaio, Raquel Menezes Bezerra; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1632-3149; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3807603064705018; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6649864011064254; Rosa, Leonardo Santana Nunes; Carvalho, Anne Emilia Costa; Irffi, Guilherme Diniz; Araújo, Julia Rocha
The quality of basic education is a global concern, leading to the implementation of various policies aimed at improving the learning process of students in the early stages of schooling. Among these initiatives, the extension of school hours stands out as one of the main strategies adopted, particularly in Latin American countries. From this perspective, this thesis presents three essays on the evaluation of school time extension policies and their effects on students' academic performance. The first essay aims to assess the empirical evidence regarding the impact of extended school hours on the performance of basic education students through a systematic literature review. The findings indicate a predominance of analyses focused on language and mathematics, with varying impacts—mostly positive or null. Additionally, interventions incorporating activities directly related to the content assessed in standardized exams yielded the best results. The study also found that socioeconomically disadvantaged students benefit the most from increased instructional time. The second essay analyzes the impact of Brazilian full-time public high schools on students' scores in the National High School Exam (ENEM) and the National System for the Evaluation of Basic Education (SAEB). The difference-in-differences method, both in its conventional format and with multiple time periods, was applied using school-level ENEM data from 2010 to 2019 and SAEB data from 2017 and 2019. The results indicate positive effects across all ENEM subject areas (human sciences, natural sciences, languages, mathematics, and essay writing), albeit with low magnitude and only in the short term. Furthermore, better SAEB results were observed in the states of the Northeast (Pernambuco, Paraíba, and Ceará) and Midwest (Goiás) regions. Finally, the third essay evaluates the effect of full-time schools on the performance of elementary school students in the state of Ceará using two assessments: the Permanent System for the Evaluation of Basic Education of the State of Ceará (SPAECE) from 2012 to 2019 and SAEB from 2011 to 2019. The results, based on the difference-in-differences method with multiple time periods, suggest positive effects on Portuguese and mathematics scores for full-time schools in the 5th and 9th grades of elementary education, even with a short treatment duration.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) has increasingly been recognized as a transformative force in higher education, offering benefits such as enhancing learning experiences and improving efficiency in academic research. However, a scoping review revealed that significant challenges persist, including concerns related to student data privacy, the spread of misinformation, and biases in assessment processes. Additionally, the review identified a lack of governance frameworks capable of effectively managing the ethical, regulatory, and operational impacts of GAI in higher education institutions. Addressing this gap, the present study aimed to understand the level of governance adoption for GAI usage in the 24 top-ranked Brazilian public universities, as listed in at least one of the academic excellence rankings: Ranking Universitário Folha 2024, QS World University Ranking 2025, and Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. The research is classified as qualitative, adopting an exploratory approach, and was conducted through a documentary study. Data collection involved gathering information from institutional websites and sending forms to request additional information from the selected universities. Thematic analysis was employed for data processing and analysis. Based on the analysis of the themes - structural mechanisms, procedural mechanisms, communication mechanisms, and training mechanisms - it was observed that none of the 24 analyzed institutions reached an advanced level of GAI governance adoption. However, a promising scenario emerges as 11 universities demonstrate intermediate-stage initiatives, indicating progress toward governance maturity. The findings of this study may provide valuable insights for developing practical actions and institutional policies to strengthen GAI governance in higher education.
