The giant cell fibroma, fibrous hyperplasia and fibroma are the most frequent fibrous oral lesions, sharing clinical and histopathological features. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immunoreactivity of the large stellate-shaped mononuclear and multinucleated cells, reported as the most characteristic histological feature of the giant cell fibroma but present occasionally in fibrous hyperplasia and fibroma, for the antibodies vimentin and HHF-35 in order to detect phenotypical characteristic of these cells. The results showed in the most of cases positive staining for vimentin, suggesting a fibroblast phenotype for these cells.

Objective: In this descriptive study were assessment clinically children with malignant neoplasm, to evidence the correlation between oral health status and the occurrence of stomatologic complications. Patients and methods: Were evaluated the oral health conditions of 40 children with malignant neoplasm (group I) through intra and extra oral physic examination, obstention of Visible Plate Index, Gingival Bleeding Index and Decayed, Missed and Filled Teeth Index; simultaneously were observed the stomatologic complications developed in this patients. The oral health status of the children of group I was compared to the healthy children (group II). Results: The children of group I presented Gingival Bleeding Index and caries experience lower than children of group II, in other hand, the Visible Plate Index was lightly greater in children of group I, nevertheless existed statistical difference in the value of the DMF-T/dmf-t between both groups (p = 0.002). In the group I, 16 children developed together 61 stomatologic complications, with predominance of oral mucositis, followed by spontaneous oral bleeding, candidiasis and xerostomy. Conclusions: Patients in anti neoplastic therapy with deficient oral hygiene had high risk of develop stomatologic complications.

Osteossarcoma de mandíbula inicialmente mimetizando lesão do periápice dental - relato de caso
(2005) Soares, Rosilene Calazans; Soraes, Andréa Ferreira; Verde, Aldo Lima; Souza, Lélia Batista de; Pinto, Leão Pereira
The osteosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor whose cancerous cells produce osteoid matrix. It is the most common primary malignant tumor of the bone, accounting for approximately 20% of the sarcomas, but only 5% of the osteosarcomas occur in the jaws. Their aspects so clinical and histological as the course and prognostic are variable. This article shows a case report of a 20-year-old man, that presented swelling near of the mandibular left premolar. After clinical diagnostic of lesion of the dental periapex, the patient was undergone initially the endodontic treatment of the tooth involved. Thereafter, in a period of eleven days, could observe an increased considerable of the lesion resulting in visible facial asymmetry. The occlusal radiographic revealed image compatible with area radiopaque resembling sunray, suggesting diagnostic of osteosarcoma. The treatment comprised partial mandibulectomy and reconstruction of the area, using bone of the rib and graft of skin of the buttock for cover the oral mucosa involved. Eight months after surgery, there was local recurrence of the lesion and patient was death approximately one year after of its reappear.

Tenascin and fibronectin in pleomorphic adenoma of the salivary gland
