PERCEPÇÃO SOCIOAMBIENTAL DE RESIDENTES SOBRE A ARBORIZAÇÃO NA ÁREA URBANA DO MUNICÍPIO DE MACAÍBA/RN

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to analyze the perception of residents in the urban area of the municipality of Macaíba/RN in relation to urban tree planting in the city. The study is based on the observation that, although urban tree planting plays an essential role in thermal comfort, urban aesthetics and environmental balance, many cities have flaws in the planning and management of green areas. The research was carried out using a questionnaire structured on a 5-point metric scale, based on the Likert model, and applied to residents of various neighborhoods in the urban area of the municipality. Based on the analysis of the data, we sought to understand how the population perceives the benefits, problems and level of social participation related to afforestation. The results indicate that the majority of participants feel that the number of trees in the city and neighborhoods is insufficient. However, people recognize the benefits that afforestation brings, especially in relation to thermal comfort and air quality. Among the main problems mentioned are falling branches, roots that damage sidewalks and interference with the electricity grid. There was also a difference between the valuation of afforestation and the infrastructure that actually exists. On the other hand, the data revealed a great interest among the population in getting involved in planting and caring for trees, indicating a potential for community engagement. These findings highlight the importance of technical planning and participatory public policies that strengthen urban afforestation and promote greater environmental equity. For future studies, we suggest expanding the sample and including rural areas, different age groups and socio-cultural contexts. In addition, it is essential to investigate how afforestation directly impacts the health and well-being of the population, in order to further support sustainable urban management strategies.
