| Abstract | Synchronizationamongneuronsisthoughttoarisefromtheinterplaybetweenexcitationandinhibition;however,theconnectivityrulesthatcontributetosynchronizationarestillunknown.WestudiedtheseissuesinhippocampalCA1microcircuitsusingpairedpatchclamprecordingsandrealtimecomputing.Byvirtuallyconnectingamodelinterneuronwithtwopyramidalcells(PCs),wewereabletotesttheimportanceofconnectivityinsynchronizingpyramidalcellactivity.OurresultsshowthatacircuitwithanonreciprocalconnectionbetweenpyramidalcellsandnofeedbackfromPCstothevirtualinterneuronproducedthegreatestlevelofsynchronizationandmutualinformationbetweenPCspikingactivity.Moreover,weinvestigatedtheroleofintrinsicmembranepropertiescontributingtosynchronizationwheretheapplicationofaspecificionchannelblocker,ZD7288dramaticallyimpairedPCsynchronization.Additionally,backgroundsynapticactivity,inparticulararisingfromNMDAreceptors,hasalargeimpactonthesynchronyobservedintheaforementionedcircuit.Ourresultsgivenewinsightstothebasicconnectionparadigmsofmicrocircuitsthatleadtocoordinationandtheformationofassemblies. | |
