Conhecimento da população de Santa Cruz-RN sobre o Acidente Vascular Cerebral

Abstract

Abstract: Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) is one of the main causes of death and disability in the world. Studies highlight the importance of knowledge and awareness of the population in preventing its occurrence. The present study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of the population of the city of Santa Cruz-RN about stroke, its risk factors, signs and symptoms, immediate assistance, and its repercussions; as well as observing the risk factors present in the research participants. This is a primary, observational, analytical and transversal study, carried out in public places with large circulation of people, in the municipality of Santa Cruz-RN, whose data were obtained through the application of an authorial questionnaire. A total of 286 individuals participated in the study. The population of the city of Santa Cruz-RN did not have much knowledge about the concept of stroke and its risk factors. Most participants who present risk factors do not recognize them as risk factors. The results highlight the need for new public policies and culturally adapted actions to increase public knowledge about stroke, including awareness of risk factors.
