Nation branding e posicionamento turístico internacional da marca-país Brasil
(2026-02-11) Silva, Mirelle Pereira da; Ferreira, Lissa Valéria Fernandes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8015374156967844; https://orcid.org/0009-0003-6377-6279; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9108672649096672; Alexandre, Mauro Lemuel de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7233203993967359; Silva, Elaine Aparecida Lopes da; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5185-2348; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2012157286077949
In the contemporary global scenario, competition between countries to attract tourists, investments, and international recognition has intensified, driving the adoption of strategies focused on managing national image and reputation. In this context, nation branding is consolidating itself as a relevant concept in the field of international relations, especially in the areas of public diplomacy and tourism. This study aimed to analyze the perception and actions of Brazilian diplomatic representatives in projecting the image and positioning of the country brand as a competitive tourist destination abroad. Methodologically, the research adopted a qualitative approach, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, based on a literature review and semi-structured interviews with seven Brazilian diplomatic actors. The empirical data were analyzed using Content Analysis, according to the method proposed by Bardin. The research outlined, through eleven analytical categories, the performance of Brazilian nation branding through national public diplomacy. The results showed that the study of the geopolitics of tourism faces some resistance, where the perception of tourism as an "instrument" is more widely accepted than the perception of it as a "thriving attribute" in contemporary Brazilian international relations. Furthermore, diplomatic action in nation branding proved to be predominantly indirect and conditioned by internal structural factors, ranging from governance, institutional coordination, and continuity of public policies between governments, to issues related to public security, budget, air connectivity, and infrastructure. The relevance of nation branding for national tourism was also noted, although contingent on the resolution of these structural factors. It was concluded that the "Brazil" country brand is undoubtedly a vast territory of untapped potential, but it is primarily subject to the success of internal policies. Strengthening the "Brazil" tourism brand depends on multiple and coordinated efforts through the integration of all actors involved in building Brazil's image abroad.

Percepções sobre a qualidade do curso técnico de guia de turismo do IFRN (2008-2012)
(2013-12-20) Lod, Messalina Karoline Oliveira; Nóbrega, Wilker Ricardo de Mendonça; Leal, Sérgio Rodrigues; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9559630444113123; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1628-3493; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0025142529544906; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2294472380181289; Almeida, Juliana Vieira de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9272504166025931; Wanderley Netto, Eduardo Bráulio; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1388009053895818
Scientific research in tourism still presents gaps regarding studies on technical vocational education, particularly those focused on the training of professionals directly engaged in the tourism sector. In this context, this dissertation aimed to analyze the perceptions of teachers, graduates, and employers concerning the quality of the Technical Course in Tourist Guiding offered by the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) between 2008 and 2012. The study sought to identify positive and negative aspects of the training provided, characterize the socioeconomic profile of the participants, and propose recommendations for course improvement. This is a descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative and quantitative approach, developed through bibliographic, documentary, and field research. Data were collected through questionnaires applied to the different research subjects, and the analytical categories were constructed based on the theoretical framework adopted and on principles of the TEDQUAL certification system proposed by the World Tourism Organization. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results indicate that the course is recognized for the quality of its theoretical training, the academic qualifications and commitment of the teaching staff, and the institutional structure of IFRN. However, weaknesses were identified regarding the limited availability of practical activities, insufficient integration with the labor market, and challenges related to foreign language proficiency, which are considered essential for professional insertion. Additionally, low graduate retention in the tourism sector was observed. It is concluded that, despite an overall positive evaluation, the course needs to strengthen the integration between training and the labor market to enhance its social and professional effectiveness.

Identidade gastronômica potiguar como valor cultural e atrativo turístico: o Rio Grande do Norte como lugar singular
(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2026-02-11) Pereira, Iury Bezerra; Oliveira, Almir Félix Batista de; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8570-9179; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6348825553522569; https://orcid.org/0009-0007-6224-216X; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8029248667740810; Dantas, Andrea Virginia Sousa; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4555976978556449; Alves, Josemery Araújo; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9852-1442; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8242612872391867; Salazar, Viviane Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0331772105868515
Combining gastronomy with tourism has been a common practice in various destinations, aiming to promote economic growth and strengthen local identities, in which these gastronomic identities evoke a sense of belonging for residents of the destinations and offer unique experiences for visitors. Based on this perception and the guiding question (How is the gastronomic identity of Rio Grande do Norte characterized in terms of its constituent elements?), this research seeks to analyze the gastronomic identity of Rio Grande do Norte based on the relationship between documents that discuss food in Rio Grande do Norte, professionals in the state's gastronomic sector, and tourist restaurants. The overall objective of the work focuses on understanding the construction of the gastronomic identity of Rio Grande do Norte alongside the influence of tourism. To achieve this goal, the following specific objectives were defined: to identify the main dishes or gastronomic elements of Rio Grande do Norte; to identify the perception of local professionals in the gastronomic field regarding the eating habits of the people of Rio Grande do Norte in the formation of the local gastronomic identity; to examine the menus of tourist restaurants in terms of their connection with the gastronomy of Rio Grande do Norte and the influences of the tourism market. The work is guided by a qualitative-quantitative approach, with the intention of not only quantifying general data, but also directing the results from a cultural and identity perspective with regard to literature, professionals, and local food services. The research is based in the state of Rio Grande do Norte—more specifically, 15 cities selected based on the new map of tourist hubs in the state. In this sense, data triangulation was performed between a content analysis (categorical theme) using Iramuteq software and supported by a semi-structured interview with gastronomy professionals in RN, descriptive and quantitative analysis of restaurant menus in the selected cities available on the TripAdvisor website, as well as a qualitative descriptive analysis based on articles, theses, dissertations, IPHAN, INPI, and the Official Gazette of RN. The results indicate that Rio Grande do Norte has a rich gastronomic heritage, similar to that of neighboring states and others in the Northeast region, and is moving towards greater recognition of local traditions. However, when combined with tourism, Potiguar cuisine fails to promote its delicacies by not working on this identity in the imagination of tourists—both those who intend to visit and those who have already visited. The data shows the need for public authorities and competent bodies to work on promoting the destination, focusing on gastronomic tourism in addition to sun and sea.

In recent years, there has been an increase in discussions about Community-Based Tourism (CBT) as a form of local development and a factor for social and economic growth. The alternative model of tourist activity is commonly observed in its practice and dissemination in rural contexts, but as a rule, it is understood that there is a perspective of framing TBC in contexts of urban areas that are socioeconomically disadvantaged, unequal and are on the margins of the process. of tourism. From this perspective, Community-Based Tourism in Urban Areas (TBCAU) is explored, which will potentially address a poor, disadvantaged and marginalized context. Furthermore, dealing with TBC requires discussing, reinforcing and following the premises and principles designated by the Ministry of Tourism in Brazil (MTUR). From this, the objective of the research is to analyze the limits and possibilities for community-based tourism in urban areas (TBCAU) in Mãe Luiza Neighborhood (Natal/RN), focusing on the premises proposed by MTUR. As soon as it becomes important to look into this topic as little is explored and academically problematizes TBC in city limits, and due to the current scenario of reach and visibility of community-based tourism. The methodology used is based on qualitative research and has an exploratory and descriptive nature, carrying out empirical research that includes bibliographical analysis, focus group meetings, documentary research and direct observation in its data collection. The results regarding the limits and possibilities of CBT in marginalized and socioeconomically disadvantaged urban areas can highlight the scope or distance from the premises proposed by the Ministry of Tourism (MTUR). Mãe Luiza, the locus of this research, demonstrates a neighborhood that approaches the premises despite several challenges. However, it is understood that achieving all the premises in their entirety would be difficult. Finally, the aim is also to develop strategies that can provide support for the appropriation of tourism by the neighborhood. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the responsible way of practicing tourism, and enables the community development of the locality.

E-learning (online education) is recognized for offering flexibility in both time and investment for its users. In recent years, the modality has expanded, being increasingly adopted by educational institutions and tourism-related companies. In this context, the Ministry of Tourism (MTur) plays a relevant role in establishing public policies and/or programs aimed at professional qualification in the country. Therefore, this study analyzes the adoption of elearning in professional qualification in the tourism sector, with an emphasis on the qualification initiatives offered by the Ministry of Tourism. The research is characterized as descriptive and exploratory and adopts a qualitative approach. A literature review was also conducted to assess the state of the art. Data collection included bibliographic and documentary research, semi-structured interviews, and questionnaires administered to MTur managers and the coordinator of the Specialization and Extension courses in Responsible Tourism, which are offered in the e-learning format in partnership with UFRN. Secondary data were also obtained. Qualitative data were analyzed and processed using Bardin's Content Analysis (1977). The results indicate that this modality presents itself as a relevant strategy for expanding access to training for people of different age groups and locations. Professional qualification programs and platforms offered by the Ministry of Tourism (MTUR) are available to all tourism professionals and/or individuals interested in the field and/or topics covered. Despite this, access to digital platforms remains difficult, caused both by some individuals' limited or almost complete familiarity with new digital technologies and by the lack of digital infrastructure. Despite these limitations, reports from participants in the aforementioned courses revealed a positive perception of the training proposal. Many participants highlighted, among other things, the facilitated access to knowledge and the flexibility provided by the modality. Finally, the results presented are expected to contribute to the debate on professional qualification through e-learning, fostering reflection and identifying areas for improvement for the continuous enhancement of this educational modality.

(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-03-28) Sousa, Sara Jane Almeida de; Mendes Filho, Luiz Augusto Machado; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9175-8903; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7785924812425468; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1369282347839025; Marques Júnior, Sérgio; Milito, Marcelo Chiarelli
Studies in tourism examine the impact of gamification on destination brand promotion, tourist experience, application in architectural attractions, as well as behavioral and psychological aspects, which address the influence on positive behaviors. Based on this, research on gamification focusing on outcomes in the events segment is still limited. The main objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between gamification—through the narrative component—flow, positive emotions, memorability, and repatronage intention (recommendation and revisit) among visitors who participate in an innovation and technology event. The research was conducted with 201 participants of the GO!RN 2023 event, with the selection criterion being their active participation in the event’s gamification. Data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The study uses Self-Determination Theory (SDT), represented by the narrative, and is based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) paradigm, exploring the effect of the gamification component (narrative) on participant memorability and repatronage intention. The results highlight the positive influence of narrative within gamification on participant experience, contributing to the formation of positive memories and, consequently, to the intention to return and recommend the event to others. It was found that narrative has a significant relationship with flow in events, due to the engagement and sense of belonging that comes from being immersed in the story, as well as with participants' positive emotions. Positive emotions were shown to mediate the relationship between narrative and memorability, while flow also positively and significantly mediated the relationship between narrative and memorability. Thus, memorability has a significant relationship with the intention to revisit the event. The memories built during this process lead individuals to want to relive the experience and develop curiosity about future editions, as well as to encourage others in their social circle to participate. The study highlights the relevance of narrative in gamification for events to create memorable experiences, offering useful insights for professionals and organizers to develop strategies for audience engagement and loyalty.

The growth of the restaurant sector has been steady in recent years. The Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants – ABRASEL (2025) indicates that the sector closed 2024 with the creation of 240,000 direct and indirect jobs in bars and restaurants. Given this growth, service quality and price perceptions have become essential for customer satisfaction and the generation of competitive advantages in gastronomic businesses. The central objective of this dissertation is to analyse the relationship between price and service quality in tourist restaurants. The southern zone of the city of Natal/RN, specifically the Ponta Negra neighbourhood, was chosen as the research locus. This area is designated as a Special Area of Tourist and Landscape Interest (AEITP) under Supplementary Law No. 208 of 7 March 2022, as established in the Master Plan of the city of Natal/RN. The research methodology follows a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive approach with a non-probabilistic convenience sample. Two instruments were used for data collection. The first was applied to Decision-Makers of tourist restaurants and consisted of 15 questions based on the vignette technique. According to Renold (2002), vignettes are scenarios designed to explore the subjective issues of interviewees. The second instrument was a structured interview guide with open-ended questions, using the in-depth interview technique applied to managers of an association representing the restaurant sector. Additionally, Python software (version 3) was used to transcribe the interviews, while Iramuteq was employed to generate word clouds and similarity analysis. Furthermore, Bardin’s (2016) Content Analysis (CA) was used to guide the interpretation of the participants’ discourse. The main findings highlight that, according to the interviewees’ perceptions, food quality and customer service are crucial elements for consumer loyalty. However, pricing strategies are applied based on operational costs and market adaptation. As a final result, the research identifies the ever-challenging need to balance competitive pricing and service quality, particularly during low-season periods.

In 2004, the Brazilian federal government initiated the implementation of the Tourism Regionalization Program (PRT), promoting the formation of "tourist regions" across the national territory for the purpose of tourism planning and development. This was done through regional governance entities, under the principle of decentralization. However, by proposing the region as a spatial planning category, it is assumed that municipalities within a tourist region would aim to develop tourism in an integrated manner, with each capturing a share of tourist flows and both public and private investments in the sector. The Chapada Diamantina tourist region in the state of Bahia comprises 40 municipalities, divided into 4 microregions: Chapada Diamante, Chapada Norte, Chapada Ouro and Chapada Velha. In the 1990s, tourism in the region was yet historically, tourism has been concentrated in the municipality of Lençóis. In this regard, it is pertinent to question whether over 20 years, tourism regionalization policies have succeeded in dispersing tourism across the municipalities of the Chapada Diamantina region. Therefore, the research aims to analyze the tourism sector's behavior in the regional economy of Chapada Diamantina during the implementation period of the Tourism Regionalization Program (2004-2024), focusing on the trends of concentration and dispersion of tourism activities and their contribution to regional development. This is an exploratory research with a qualitative-quantitative approach, utilizing regional analysis measures (location quotient), and conducting semi-structured interviews with local tourism stakeholders. The results demonstrate that Lençóis fulfilled, over two decades, the role of a tourism-inducing hub and its area of influence mainly covered nearby municipalities, such as Palmeiras, Andaraí, Mucugê, Ibicoara, Iraquara and Nova Redenção. These municipalities are part of Chapada Diamante, which significantly concentrates the tourism sector in the region. But it is possible to consider that tourism is spreading, even if still timidly, towards some municipalities in Chapada Norte, which could become a new tourist center in Chapada Diamantina. The Chapada Ouro and Chapada Velha microregions are areas of rarefaction, with a low presence (in some cases absence) of tourist enterprises, services and products. Intra-regional inequalities, therefore, are challenges for the effectiveness of the Tourism Regionalization Program, especially in regions as large as Chapada Diamantina.

Decolonial studies have been at the epicenter of academic debates since the late 1990s. Decoloniality emerges as an epistemic movement that proposes deconstructing colonial narratives, overcoming and breaking with hegemonic logic, valuing local, indigenous and AfroBrazilian knowledge and traditions, and fostering egalitarian relations between subaltern groups. Notably marked by colonial narratives and elements, Porto Seguro is a city located in the state of Bahia that sometimes has its historical context reduced to the invasion of Brazil. In the field of tourism, Chambers and Buzinde (2015) pioneered decolonial theory applied to studies in the area. Since then, there has been an increase in academic production along these lines. The aim of this research is to understand the tourism perceptions and practices of local tourism managers and agents in the Historic Center of Porto Seguro, analyzed from a decolonial perspective. The research is configured as a case study in order to investigate the relationship between tourism, cultural heritage and the decolonial approach. It is characterized as exploratory research, as it seeks to understand a topic that has not yet been studied from this perspective, making it possible to expand discussions and knowledge on the subject. It is also descriptive in nature, with a qualitative approach. It records and details the characteristics and practices associated with heritage and its relationship with tourism. This dissertation adopts a critical perspective by questioning the power structures and inequalities present in the management and valorization of cultural heritage. Based on the theoretical writings of the decolonial strand, this study is dedicated to examining how hegemonic narratives contribute to the subalternization of local practices, knowledge and cultures, proposing reflections and paths towards another way of looking at tourism and heritage. Data was collected through documentary research, looking for information on the official websites and networks of Porto Seguro City Hall and in institutional documents such as the Municipal Master Plan, the National Culture Plan (PNC), the Integrated Sustainable Tourism Development Plan (PDITS) and the Territorial Plan for Sustainable and Solidarity Development (PTDSS). This study also included semi-structured interviews, which complemented the participant observations. The data collected was studied using Content Analysis (CA) and Discourse Analysis (DA). The results showed the silencing and subordination of the city's cultural heritage and the effective lack of dialogue between managers and local tourism agents, manifested by the divergence between the discourses and practices adopted. It was also found that promoting tourism from a decolonial perspective is a complex and ongoing challenge, which requires, first and foremost, a theoretical understanding of the concept, working in the pedagogical context and then in the tourism and marketing context. In addition, there are political obstacles, since this issue is not yet a priority for discussion by managers at municipal or state level. It was observed that, despite the incipient individual efforts seen in this research, the actions linked to the characteristics of the decolonial approach are fragmented and limited, indicating that there is a long and permanent process to be developed, which lacks the integration and participation of tourism managers and agents.

(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-02-13) Santos, Layrane Mayara Lino; Bridi, Guilherme; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1626859396401842; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7418-9780; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5154185201017288; Biz, Alexandre Augusto; Almeida, Giovana Goretti Feijó de; Mendes Filho, Luiz Augusto Machado
Continuous access to the internet has led to an increase in the generation of data between users and companies. This data includes information on tourist destinations, personal data, purchase history, bank and credit card details. The main characteristics of this data indicate vulnerability, due to the sensitivity of this information. This raises the question of data protection and privacy. Considering the possibility of information leaks, it is necessary to adopt measures to minimize the impact. To this end, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has emerged, which deals with aspects that companies must develop in order to be a good corporate citizen. Therefore, the aim of the research is to characterize the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (consisting of legal, economic, ethical and philanthropic responsibility) in the development of cybersecurity actions in Travel Techs. The object of study is travel techs, which are companies that offer technological solutions to improve tourism processes. The fact that travel techs offer products and services online can be considered a risk agent for data breaches, so it is important to study what actions can be taken to protect them. The methodology used is based on qualitative research supported by Bardin's (2011) content analysis, with empirical research focusing on the analysis of multiple studies based on Yin (2003). After collection, the data was processed using Vosviewer software version 1.6.20. The sample is made up of aspiring startups linked to business incubators in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The results revealed that, although the companies demonstrate a basic understanding of cybersecurity and their responsibilities to provide a safe online environment for their customers, there is a discrepancy in the level of awareness and preparation between them. However, it can be seen that companies that have already faced invasions or incidents have a high level of knowledge and adoption of technological mechanisms that mitigate the risks of violation, showing an adaptive reaction to the cyber threats faced.

Socio-spatial segregation is considered as territorial separation through social stratification, based on characteristics such as income, culture and race, created by hegemonic groups. In tourist destinations, these groups are represented by large national and foreign entrepreneurs in the tourism and real estate trade, supported by neoliberal policies, who contribute to the formation of peripheral areas and inequalities. This is the reality of the tourist destination Porto Seguro and its largest and most populous peripheral area, the Complexo Baianão. However, in contrast, there is resistance from those affected by unequal relations of power and power. Resistance occurs in various forms; Lefebvre and Harvey call it an urban revolution, when individuals and disadvantaged social groups join forces in movements that seek another city, one that is more just, egalitarian and representative of its inhabitants. In the Complexo Baianão, this resistance is carried out by the movements Ateliê Cultivo de Poesia, Batalha do Complexo, Brasil Chama África, Café dus Pretus, Coletivo Jovem Muká Mukaú, Lambe Lambe Porto Seguro, Levante Popular da Juventude, Movimento LGBTQIAPN+, Rua Juventude Anticapitalista and Sarau Odara. In this sense, the objective of this work is to understand how social resistance movements in the Baianão Complex, the largest outskirts of Porto Seguro/BA, contribute to confronting socio-spatial segregation induced by tourist urbanization in the city. The research is qualitative and data collection occurred through documentary research, non-participant observation in the Complexo Baianão, semi-structured interviews with the public administration of Porto Seguro and with the social movements of the Complexo Baianão. Data analysis was based on categorical content analysis. The results show that the municipal public administration of Porto Seguro, through the current neoliberal global political paradigm, handed the territory over to hegemonic agents and, on the other hand, encouraged the creation of the Complexo Baianão, a peripheral neighborhood, designed and planned to be a place of residence for individuals with similar financial, cultural and racial characteristics, who work in the jobs and underemployment generated by the tourist activity. The social and popular movements of the Complexo Baianão emerge to make an urban revolution, which begins in the streets and squares of the group of neighborhoods and is gradually spreading to other areas of the city. The aim is to reclaim the spaces that were taken, the autonomy now lost, as well as the valorization of the peripheral identity. The strategies of these movements are through cultural interventions, occupation of political spaces, demonstrations and acts in public spaces and through the educational awareness of children and young people who are the proposal of the next generation to make the revolution in Porto Seguro. Furthermore, the Complexo Baianão itself stands as a space of resistance in the territory, opposed to the dynamics of the tourist atmosphere present in the city.

(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-02-14) Silva, Alzira Maria Barbalho Ferreira da; Rezende Filho, Mozart Fazito; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7528-6619; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1500119299281914; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4607302822755980; Campos, Járvis; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6404-6783; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9521949677900552; Hofstaetter, Moema
Introduction: In recent years, Brazil has invested in wind energy, with Rio Grande do Norte being one of the states that stands out in this segment. Recent studies show that communities impacted by the construction of wind farms face a series of environmental, social and cultural consequences (Hofstaetter, 2016). Within the state, Ponta do Tubarão stands out in this scenario of a community that experiences the consequences of wind power on a daily basis. Objective: to analyze the relationship between wind energy and the socio-environmental impacts in the Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve/RN, investigating how wind farms influence the process of local development and tourism. Methodology: a predominantly qualitative research approach, of an analytical nature, with the best strategy to answer the research problem being the case study. The data collection technique will be based on document review, secondary databases and semi-structured interviews. The analysis will be carried out by crossing secondary data with Foucaultian discourse analysis, following Hajer's methodology (2006), already used in conflict contexts (FAZITO et al., 2016). Final considerations: The research analyzed the impacts of the expansion of wind energy in the Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve (RDSEPT), highlighting conflicts between economic development, environmental preservation and community participation. The installation of wind farms negatively affected the landscape, biodiversity and tourism, one of the main local economic activities, in addition to highlighting the lack of dialogue and participatory governance. The discourse analysis revealed tensions between the interests of companies, governments and communities, reinforcing the need for more inclusive and sustainable public policies. It is concluded that the energy transition must integrate economic development, environmental preservation and community leadership to ensure equity and social justice.

Social invisibility is a problem that highlights inequalities and has affected society since the dawn of civilization; however, only recently has it garnered more significant debate. Even with globalization and technological advancement, political crises around the world exacerbate these inequalities. Tourism has long been perceived as an elitist practice, but there is now increasing discussion about social inclusion within this field. The inclusion of people with disabilities in tourism practices is the focus of this study. Through the analysis of the relationships between tourism and social invisibility, this research centers on the accessibility infrastructure in tourist spaces, existing public policies, and the experiences of visually impaired individuals in Natal, RN. The objective of this research is to analyze the relationships between tourism and social invisibility, with a focus on accessibility structures in tourist spaces, existing public policies, and the experiences of visually impaired people in Natal, RN. The overall goal will be addressed by examining the positive and negative aspects of accessibility for visually impaired individuals in tourist spaces, mapping the main public policies aimed at visually impaired people in these areas, and analyzing the perceptions of visually impaired individuals regarding their inclusion and significance in the tourism landscape. The methodological approach of this research involved bibliographic research to underpin the study, documentary research of public policies, focus groups with visually impaired individuals to understand their perceptions as tourists or leisure participants, and on-site observations of tourist locations such as Ponta Negra Beach and Forte dos Reis Magos. This work addresses the social invisibility of visually impaired individuals in tourism from the perspective of inadequate accessibility infrastructure in tourist spaces, ineffective inclusion public policies, and potential distortions in self-concept regarding their rights to inclusion. The study reveals that the social exclusion of blind individuals is perpetuated by a lack of public policies, inadequate infrastructure, and societal misinformation. The implications point to the need for a review and strengthening of urban accessibility strategies, especially in tourist spaces. The importance of education and awareness-raising for the inclusion of people with disabilities (PwDs) is also emphasized. The findings confirm the literature advocating for a more integrated and inclusive approach to address these challenges.

Tourism is a complex activity whose commercial approach encourages destinations to invest in different strategies in order to stand out from the competitive market. One of these strategies is the formulation of destination brands, which communicate directly with the local tourist public. The branding manages to create a deeper relationship with tourists by humanasing the destination. In this way, tourists visualise the place they are visiting with emotions, personalities and other characteristics attributed to people. As these tourists often turn to tourist guides to define their experience at the destination, the aim of this dissertation is to: Understand how tourist guides perceive the tourist brand of the destination Natal, based on the Brand Personality Scale. This method analyses the destination's brand based on 42 variables divided into 5 dimensions. The quantitative data was analysed using SPSS software. The analyses were validated using Cronbach's Alpha. The results show that tourist guides see the city as sincere, family-orientated, healthy, cheerful, cool, charming and friendly. The main audience for the guides are families from nearby towns, which may explain this positioning. However, when it comes to the Brand specifically, similarities are pointed out between ‘Viva Natal’ and other successful brands, leading to questions about the ‘touristification’ of the destination, i.e. the creation of experiences, and in this case, brands, which make little use of the local identity, being similar to other cases. To deepen the discussion, future studies suggest reapplying the method with tourists, preferably with a larger sample.

The Cariri Paraibano region, characterized by the Caatinga landscape framed by rocky outcrops, has witnessed a growing tourist activity in recent years. This growth is driven by various factors, including geomorphological and archaeological attributes, cinematographic productions, crafts, and gastronomy. Tourism, at least in discourse, is presented as an important vector for local development and improvement in the quality of life of communities. In 2017, Sebrae/PB launched the "Rota dos Lajedos" project to promote activities such as geotourism, ecotourism, and community experiences. However, tourist development requires an inclusive approach involving the active participation of local communities in decision-making. In this context, there is a form of tourism commonly known as Community-Based Tourism (CBT), which emphasizes participatory management and the role of local individuals as central agents in the tourism development processes in their respective territories. Thus, the research aims to analyze how the rural communities of Marinho and Bravo, located in Cariri Paraibano, are socially organized and integrated into the tourism production chain, revealing factors explaining their different forms of community organization and proximity to the development of Community-Based Tourism (CBT). The research is exploratory with a qualitative analysis approach. Information was collected through fieldwork in the target communities, using two data collection techniques: participant observation and semi-structured interviews with residents, community leaders, and external agents involved in local tourism. The information was analyzed based on Aécio Gomes de Matos' theory of social organizers. The results show that the presence of certain social organizers, such as economic and managerial organizers in the Marinho community, led to greater engagement and social participation in local tourism development, bringing it closer to CBT principles. These organizers are not present in the Bravo community, which is more dependent on the leader's figure, with low adherence and social participation in associative and/or cooperative activities. Thus, internal and external actions aimed at local tourism development tended to have a more positive and successful impact in the community where community organization around productive activities was pre-existing.

Vila de Ponta Negra is the original nucleus of the Ponta Negra district, located in the city of Natal/RN, and until the 1980s it was essentially made up of farmers and fishermen. From this period onwards, with the tourist refunctionalization of the district, Vila has been undergoing changes in terms of its use and occupation. There has been the emergence of new commercial facilities, services, and the search for housing by new residents with a higher income standard, making it an area coveted by the real estate market. The onset of a verticalization process in the border areas of Vila began in 2000 and was later followed by the spread of horizontal gated communities. Tourist urbanization (Mullins, 1991) has been intensifying, causing changes in Vila’s form and content (Santos, 2002). The objective of this work is to analyze the process of residential segregation resulting from the dynamism of the real estate market in Vila de Ponta Negra, following the expansion of tourist activity. The work is based on a theoreticalmethodological foundation guided by the Harvey-Lefebvrian perspective to discuss the social reality in Vila de Ponta Negra. The research is of a quantitative and qualitative nature and characterized in an exploratory-descriptive manner, mainly because it sought to provide a general overview of the segregation processes in the study area. After bibliographic and documentary research, a field survey was conducted, with on-site surveys of real estate investments and interviews with community, public sector and construction industry representatives, in addition to photographic records. It is concluded that residential segregation has become increasingly evident given that tourist urbanization has valued Vila and attracted the real estate market to build housing for a population with greater purchasing power. The selfsegregation evidenced by the gated communities (horizontal and vertical) was the typology that grew the most over the last few years. These housing modalities fostered the process of fragmentation of urban land through their walls, which hindered free circulation within Vila. Community life also fragments and frays as tourist urbanization advances in the main tourist district of Natal.

Community-Based Tourism (TBC) is a form of tourism management generally developed in the territory of indigenous peoples and traditional communities under the principles of self-management, social equity, solidarity, cooperation and interculturality. The majority participation of women in TBC initiatives is widely recognized by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). The role of women in TBC initiatives, however, does not lead to an automatic process of female empowerment and gender equality. In this sense, the study aims to analyze the role of women in the development of Community-Based Tourism in the Catu dos Eleotérios indigenous community, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and its possible effects on female empowerment and indigenous social dynamics, from 2018, when TBC starts in the community. As specific objectives, the work aims to: reveal the indigenous social dynamics and the sexual division of labor in the Catu dos Eleotérios community; identify the results generated by Community-Based Tourism and the challenges for its development, from the perspective of catuzeira women; and verify whether Community-Based Tourism triggered processes of female empowerment and changes in the social position of women in the indigenous community. The research is characterized as a case study, inspired by the ethnographic method, with the application of participant observation techniques, field diary and analysis of semi-structured interviews, which made it possible to explore the perspectives, experiences and meanings attributed by women to their involvement in TBC. As a result, there is an initial process of female empowerment of catuzeira women in the psychological, social, economic and political dimensions. In the psychological dimension, the increase in self-esteem, active participation, self-confidence and greater autonomy of indigenous women is notable. In the social dimension, women are positioned more independently, gaining visibility, speaking and decision-making power, strengthening the social position of women within the community. In the economic dimension, women now have an alternative source of income through tourism, providing greater financial autonomy and influence in family dynamics, with prominent roles as entrepreneurs and artisans. With regard to political empowerment, women began to participate more in community decisions and represent the community in external organizations, however, they still do not exercise leadership roles. Despite advances, some challenges persist regarding gender inequality, such as the overload of women in domestic activities and machismo based on patriarchal structures, obstacles rooted in the social structure of the community, which still need to be overcome.

The development of tourism activities in communities is based on participation and involvement in the decision-making and planning process, a factor that should be observed through residents' attitudes in various situations arising from tourism. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the interrelations among some factors that can affect residents' support for the development of community-based tourism in indigenous communities. To conduct the investigation, it was necessary to seek a theoretical foundation through Social Exchange Theory (SET), which deals with cognitive perspectives related to rationality, as it is associated with a set of exchanges based on perceived rewards and costs in the relationship between residents and support for the activity (Strzelecka et al., 2017). Additionally, a theoretical model capable of measuring resident empowerment through the Tourism Empowerment Scale – RETS by Boley and McGehee (2014) was used as a theoretical basis. To analyze the relationships between dimensions, a theoretical model based on the constructs of Community Involvement, Social Empowerment, Psychological Empowerment, Political Empowerment, Positive Impacts, Negative Impacts, and Residents' Support will be proposed, using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The research was characterized as descriptive and quantitative, of the cross-sectional survey type, through the hypothetical-deductive method. The research sample was probabilistically selected using simple random sampling through the random selection of residences. Data collection was carried out through the application of questionnaires with closed-ended questions, using the Google Forms tool, with questions based on the Likert scale, on an 11-point metric scale, from which 301 responses were collected in-person. Data were collected between September and November 2023. The data were processed using Excel software and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 26.0) and AMOS 23.0 software. The main results of the research indicate a positive and direct influence between community involvement and political, social, and psychological empowerment, as well as a positive and direct influence between social and psychological empowerment and residents' support. However, there was no significant influence between political empowerment and residents' support. Negative impacts showed a negative and inversely proportional influence on support, while positive impacts had a positive and direct influence on residents' support.

The Dunas de Natal State Park is the first regulated Conservation Unit in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, linked to the National System of Conservation Units, in the Full Protection group, twenty-seven years after its regulation. Located in Natal, the state capital, the park is in an urban area and is surrounded by two Special Areas of Social Interest, an Area of Special Tourist and Landscape Interest and military areas. As a result, it has to deal with a range of conflicts arising from the association between an Integral Protection Conservation Unit and an urban area. The main aim of this research is to "analyze the conflicts arising from the extemporaneous linking of "Park" type Conservation Units located in urban areas to the National System of Conservation Units - SNUC, based on the case of the Natal/RN Dunes Park". This is a qualitative study, considered to be the most appropriate way to respond to the problem, which is interdisciplinary. As a strategy, the Case Study was chosen because it is a detailed examination of a single example, which allows for greater depth and, consequently, greater learning about the object studied. Parque das Dunas was characterized as a single critical case, defined by its centrality to the research problem. Data collection was based on secondary data, consisting of official documents (Management Plan, Operation Plan, Procedures Manual, among others identified along the way), minutes of meetings of the UC's Management Council, Natal Master Plans, reports published in printed newspapers, found in the archives of the National Library's hemeroteca, specifically in the local newspapers O Poty and Diário de Natal, in the periods between 1970-1979 and 1980-1989; as well as related documents, which were analyzed using Content Analysis, respecting the stages of pre-analysis, exploration of the material and treatment of the results, defined by Bardin (2011). The aim was to understand the relationship between the natural and urban environment, based on regulatory instruments. Using the National System of Conservation Units - SNUC as a reference, the State Systems were analyzed in order to understand the similarities and distinctions between the instruments, seeking to identify the existence of distinct categories of Conservation Units from those defined by the SNUC. As a final theoretical framework, the Urban Park was highlighted as a category of green area closer to urban realities and its potential for providing ecosystem services, leisure and tourism, and improving people's quality of life. The results obtained point to the need to reevaluate the legislation on Conservation Units, especially at state and municipal level, with the creation of categories other than those defined by the SNUC, with a view to providing areas with characteristics and regulations closer to the realities of urban centers; the need for possible adjustments or requalification of the UCs linked extemporaneously to the SNUC, as well as a review of the Parque das Dunas Management Plan. Despite the fact that extemporaneous linkage leads to mismatches between what is stated in the law and the realities of the Conservation Units, the conflicts are not just a result of this fact; many of them have existed since their creation and have worsened over time.
