Presentation: Social media are important sources of health information and play a significant role in influencing public decision-making. The World Health Organization (WHO) (PAHO, 2026) identifies Brazil as the country with the second-highest number of leprosy notifications worldwide. Clear communication is crucial to mitigate health misinformation processes. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze how journalistic news about leprosy is disseminated through the public portals of Agência Brasil and to examine the potential implications of health information. Development: Journalistic publications concerning leprosy were analyzed using texts retrieved from the Agência Brasil website, covering the period from 2021 to 2025. The descriptors “hanseníase” and “hanseniase” were used in a double-independent search. After the screening process, 18 publications were selected and considered to contain complete information about the disease. News quality was assessed based on the criteria proposed by Pinto et al. (2023) and Carvalho et al. (2026). Results and Conclusions: The collected data did not provide sufficient information for understanding the prevention, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, or cure of the disease, pointing out flaws in the presentation of journalistic content, which may contribute to health misinformation. Of the collected samples, one mentioned prevention methods, 15 informed about signs and symptoms, and 14 texts addressed forms of diagnosis. Highly prevalent pathologies like leprosy lack better quality in the disseminated information, as it is essential for early diagnosis, better treatment adherence, and promotes prevention

This study analyzes the issues surrounding healthcare access for male and female artisanal fishermen in the traditional community of Pititinga, located in Rio do Fogo, Rio Grande do Norte. It aims to investigate how this access is structured, characterize the service utilization profile, identify the main challenges and barriers faced by the population, and propose avenues for qualifying comprehensive care. This is a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study, whose methodological path involved conducting a focus group and semi-structured individual interviews. The empirical material produced was organized into field diaries, electronically processed using the IRaMuTeQ software, and subjected to Bardin’s content analysis technique. The results reveal an illness profile strongly marked by severe musculoskeletal injuries, as well as cutaneous and ocular disorders resulting from the harsh environmental and biomechanical exposure inherent to the trade. Critical access barriers are identified in the transition to secondary care, characterized by regulatory delays, a shortage of specialists, insufficient medical transport, and conflicts between biomedical prescriptions and the routine of daily subsistence, which are further aggravated by clientelist dynamics and stark gender asymmetries. The study concludes that guaranteeing the right to health and consolidating equity require strengthening intersectoral public policies alongside decentralized, territorialized, and community-based actions that integrate the traditional knowledge and popular care practices of these water-dwelling populations into local public health system planning

Os efeitos da judicialização de medicamentos incorporados e não incorporados no Sistema Único de Saúde
(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2026-06-30) Barros, Laíse Lohaine Rocha; Cortez, Lyane Ramalho; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3851476293314525; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5036796528695278; Pimenta, Isac Davidson; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5690328210437372; Ferreira, Angela Maria Fernandes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4036539286429296
The judicialization of medicines is a growing phenomenon in Brazil, situated at the intersection of the constitutional right to health, the chronic underfunding of the Unified Health System (SUS) and the interests of the pharmaceutical industry. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the judicialization of medicines incorporated and not incorporated into the SUS on the system's budgetary and financial planning. An integrative literature review was conducted, with searches in the LILACS, PubMed and SciELO databases in May and June 2026, using the PCC strategy and the PRISMA-ScR flow. Nineteen studies published between 2017 and 2025, all developed in the Brazilian context, were included and analyzed across five thematic categories: most frequently judicialized medicines; factors associated with the growth of judicial demands; effects on SUS management and financing; tension between individual rights and budgetary constraints; and coping strategies. Results indicate that most medicines demanded through the courts are not included in the official SUS lists, particularly high-cost antineoplastic agents and immunobiologicals such as Bevacizumab, Ranibizumab, Etanercept and Adalimumab. However, a significant share of demands concerns medicines already incorporated into the system, revealing failures in the management and distribution of available drugs. The budgetary and financial impacts are growing: the Ministry of Health spent R$ 1.8 billion in 2022, R$ 2.24 billion in 2023 and R$ 2.7 billion in 2024 to comply with judicial decisions, and in 2019 court orders consumed 25.2% of the resources of the Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance. These expenditures undermine the execution of programmed pharmaceutical assistance policies and generate additional public costs, especially through judicial seizures of public funds — a mechanism significantly more costly than regular administrative procurement. The analysis also shows that judicialization tends to deepen inequities, disproportionately benefiting users with greater capacity to engage the justice system, contradicting the principles of universality and equity that underpin the SUS. It is concluded that the phenomenon reflects the structural insufficiencies of the public health system, and that addressing it requires adequate SUS financing, updating of official drug lists, streamlining of technology incorporation processes by CONITEC, training of justice system actors and regulation of the pharmaceutical industry's influence.

Human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) constitutes a significant public health problem due to its association with serious diseases; despite significant advances, HTLV infection remains a neglected condition, marked by historical invisibility and substantial clinical and social repercussions. In this context, this study aimed to analyze health planning strategies regarding the response to HTLV across Brazilian states. This is a qualitative documentary study based on the analysis of Health Plans, Annual Health Programs, and Annual Management Reports covering the 2020–2023 and 2024–2027 planning cycles. Documents were collected electronically from public platforms providing access to Unified Health System (SUS) planning instruments and were analyzed for references to HTLV and how the topic was incorporated into the goals, actions, indicators, and results within these instruments. The findings revealed limited and inconsistent inclusion of HTLV in the analyzed documents; it was frequently grouped with other sexually transmitted infections but rarely linked to specific goals, actions, or indicators. Instances were also identified where Annual Health Programs mentioned HTLV without the topic being addressed in the Health Plan, suggesting weaknesses in planning and a lack of coherence among management instruments, which should follow sequentially linked stages. The study concludes that, despite observed progress in incorporating HTLV into health planning, its inclusion remains incipient and not yet fully consolidated. This scenario underscores the need to include the topic in a more specific, monitorable, and integrated manner within SUS strategies

Health information quality is an essential element for strengthening Health Surveillance and supporting evidence-based public health policies. In the field of Occupational Health, occupational accident notifications recorded in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) represent an important tool for monitoring work-related health problems, enabling the identification of vulnerable groups and supporting health prevention and promotion actions. However, the presence of incomplete, inconsistent, or missing information recorded as “unknown” or “blank” compromises the production of reliable epidemiological indicators and limits decision-making by health managers. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of occupational accident notification records in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, from 2021 to 2025 and to propose interventions aimed at improving information quality. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach, based on the analysis of secondary data obtained from DATASUS. The variables analyzed were race/skin color, educational level, employment status, Brazilian Classification of Occupations (CBO), and National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE), considering records classified as unknown or blank for completeness analysis. A total of 26,256 occupational accident notifications from Rio Grande do Norte and 2,184,626 notifications nationwide were analyzed. According to the classification criteria proposed by Romero and Cunha (2006), the results demonstrated excellent completeness for the CBO variable, while educational level and employment status presented the highest levels of incompleteness. The CNAE variable showed positive improvement in Rio Grande do Norte throughout the study period. It is concluded that important weaknesses remain in the quality of notification records, reinforcing the need for continuous health education activities, monitoring of quality indicators, and improvement of health information systems to strengthen Occupational Health Surveillance

Telehealth has consolidated as a relevant strategy for strengthening the Unified Health System (SUS), especially in overcoming barriers to access Specialized Care. This study aims to analyze how telehealth has been utilized in Primary Health Care as a strategy to qualify access to medium complexity services. This is an integrative literature review, with the selection and analysis of 15 studies, conducted through the survey of scientific articles published in national and international databases that address the use of telehealth in the context of Primary Health Care and its interface with care regulation processes. The results indicate that telehealth has been employed mainly as a mechanism for clinical decision support, qualification of referrals, and reorganization of care flows, contributing to the strengthening of care coordination between levels of attention. Strategies such as teleconsultations and teleregulation demonstrate the potential to reduce unnecessary referrals, minimize territorial displacements, and expand the resolutiveness of Primary Health Care. However, the analyzed studies evidence that, despite the advances, the incorporation of telehealth into formal access regulation mechanisms for medium complexity still occurs in a fragmented, unequal manner, and dependent on local initiatives. It is concluded that telehealth represents a promising strategy for qualifying access in the Unified Health System, although its effectiveness is conditioned on the integration of information systems, the standardization of care flows, and the institutional strengthening of public policies focused on digital health.

This study addresses men's health as a significant public health issue, considering the challenges faced by both the male population and health services, especially given the low adherence to promotion and prevention actions. The objective of this research was to analyze how the health planning instruments of the municipality of Natal-RN have been incorporating the theme of men's health during the analyzed period. Data collection was performed through document analysis of the Annual Health Programing (PAS) and the Annual Management Reports (RAG). The results showed the inclusion of actions directed at men's health in the evaluated instruments; however, gaps were observed regarding the execution, monitoring, and transparency of the information presented. It was found that planning was predominantly focused on sexual and reproductive health, as well as centered on specialized care, which characterizes the persistence of the biomedical model to the detriment of essential practices within the scope of Primary Health Care (PHC). Furthermore, a significant portion of the planned actions had their outcomes omitted in the management reports, some had no records regarding their compliance, others were partially executed, and only a small proportion was effectively fulfilled. It is concluded that although the theme of men's health is part of the municipal planning instruments, structural challenges persist regarding the implementation of proposals, the monitoring of goals, and the consolidation of the policy aimed at the male population. The need for a greater commitment from public management to strategies for promotion, prevention, and comprehensive care for men's health is highlighted.

This study aimed to develop a precision strategy to optimize the implementation of the notification and learning process for patient safety incidents in hospitals and dialysis services in Rio Grande do Norte. It is an exploratory mixed-methods study, integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches. Participants included professionals responsible for patient safety in hospitals with and without ICUs and in dialysis services in Rio Grande do Norte. In the first, quantitative stage, semi-structured questionnaires with open-ended questions, applied by the Patient Safety Center of the Health Surveillance Agency (NSP VISA) of Rio Grande do Norte, were analyzed among the professionals of the Patient Safety Centers of the health services. In the second stage, a second quantitative questionnaire was used with the same sample to analyze the importance of the factors identified in the first stage using a Likert scale. The most important factors were prioritized using a Pareto chart to outline the improvement strategy. The analysis, based on the theoretical framework of the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), revealed that the effectiveness of the NOTIVISA system is influenced by technological, organizational, individual, and contextual aspects. The main barriers identified were system instability, limited infrastructure, fear of punishment, and lack of training, while facilitators included regulatory requirements, leadership support, the existence of Patient Safety Centers (PSCs), and periodic training processes. Based on these findings, a precision strategy is proposed, centered on: strengthening the technological infrastructure, expanding professional training, creating institutional feedback channels, integrating the PSC into care routines, and promoting an organizational culture of patient safety. The strategy aims to ensure qualified notifications, systematic analysis of incidents, and continuous learning, contributing to the improvement of quality and safety in healthcare in the state.

The psychosocial distress experienced by transgender and non-binary (TNB) individuals constitutes a significant public health issue, strongly associated with Social Determinants of Health and Minority Stress. This cross-sectional study aimed to analyze the prevalence and factors associated with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among TNB individuals receiving care at the Trans and Travestis Outpatient Clinic in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil). Secondary data obtained from medical records were used and analyzed descriptively and through bivariate association tests (Chi-square), considering p < 0.05. The sample revealed a predominantly young population (52.2% aged up to 23 years), single (79.6%), with a high school education (56.5%), and with marked exposure to transphobic violence (67.5%). A high prevalence of suicidal ideation (67.7%) and suicide attempts (45.6%) was observed. Suicide attempts were significantly associated with bisexual (50%) and pansexual (65.6%) orientations, mental disorder diagnoses (61.2%), especially anxiety/depression (67.5%), psychiatric follow-up (55.9%), use of controlled medication (62.0%), self-harm (79.4%), and transphobic violence (52.7%). Suicidal ideation was also associated with these variables, being more frequent among younger individuals (75.4%) and those who experienced social violence. The findings highlight the multifactorial nature of suicide risk among the TNB population and underscore the urgency of intersectoral actions grounded in Public Health to address stigma and promote affirmative, humanized, and comprehensive mental health care.

This article investigates the professional possibilities for graduates in Collective Health within the context of the digital transformation of healthcare, focusing on the National Policy on Health Information and Informatics (PNIIS) and the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). The main objective was to develop an integrative literature review to understand SUS information and informatics policies, particularly their guidelines and ongoing programs such as SUS Digital. The methodology consisted of an integrative literature review conducted in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), and the United States National Library of Medicine (PubMed) databases. The search strategies used were “saúde digital” AND “saúde coletiva” and “digital health” AND “public health,” including articles published from 2015 onward (year of creation of the National Policy on Health Information and Informatics), in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. As this is a literature review, submission to a Research Ethics Committee was not required, in accordance with Brazilian National Health Council guidelines. Searches in the LILACS, SciELO, and PubMed databases identified 6 articles in LILACS, 5 in SciELO, and 14 in PubMed that met the eligibility criteria. The results indicate that digital transformation in the SUS is advancing through technologies such as telemedicine, electronic health records, and mobile applications, yet challenges persist, including digital exclusion, system fragmentation, and regulatory gaps. It is concluded that graduates in Collective Health play a strategic role as mediators between technology and the principles of the SUS, contributing to system management, promotion of equity, and the implementation of inclusive policies.

This study aimed to critically analyze the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the management of Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS), emphasizing the role of public health professionals (sanitaristas) as ethical and technical mediators in the adoption of these technologies. The research combined a narrative literature review — encompassing national frameworks such as SUS Digital, PNIIS, and PBIA, as well as relevant international experiences — with a reflexive account of the author’s experiences in various SUS contexts. This approach enabled the comparison of scientific evidence with institutional and formative practices, highlighting challenges and opportunities for digital health in Brazil. Findings indicate that, while promising initiatives exist in areas such as epidemiological surveillance, outbreak prediction, and logistical optimization (e.g., dengue, emergency services, occupational health), most AI applications remain focused on biomedical and clinical domains, with limited integration into planning, policy evaluation, or broader public health management. This imbalance constrains AI’s transformative potential regarding equity and comprehensive care within SUS. Additional barriers include fragmented information systems, lack of interoperability, algorithmic bias risks, and insufficient digital training for public health professionals. The study concludes that sanitaristas can play a central role in Brazil’s digital health transformation if adequately trained to mediate between management and technology, critically assess biases, and drive innovation in public policy. Recommendations include curricular reform in public health programs, active inclusion of these professionals in innovation and digital governance hubs, and the strengthening of public policies that promote ethical and participatory AI use. Despite the narrative design’s inherent limitations, this study contributes to the debate on digital health and points toward future research and institutional reforms

Population aging in Brazil represents one of the main challenges for public health. According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in 2022, more than 31 million people were aged 60 or older, representing 14.7% of the Brazilian population. Projections indicate that this percentage will exceed 25% by 2060. In this context, promoting active and healthy aging has become a strategic priority, with physical activity being one of the main tools to strengthen autonomy, prevent health conditions, and improve the quality of life of older adults. Primary Health Care (PHC) plays a central role in this process by offering structured programs and interprofessional actions that encourage healthy habits in everyday community life. This study aimed to map the influence of actions promoting physical activity on healthy aging, quality of life, and autonomy of older adults followed by PHC services. It is an integrative literature review. The search for studies was conducted between December 2024 and January 2025, with an update in June 2025, in order to identify recent publications that could be included in the review. The databases used were the Virtual Health Library (BVS), MEDLINE/PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar. The search strategy involved combining controlled descriptors in Portuguese and English related to “Older Adults,” “Physical Activity,” and “Primary Health Care.” A total of 115 articles were initially identified. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria and removing duplicates, 10 studies were selected for the final analysis. Data were organized using Thematic Content Analysis, according to. The results showed that 90% of the studies used quantitative methodologies, predominantly with cross-sectional and descriptive designs. Only 10% adopted a qualitative approach. Overall, regular physical activity was found to promote improvements in physical functionality, mental and emotional health, cognition, and quality of life of older adults. It was also observed that programs offered in Primary Care Units (UBS) strengthen community bonds and encourage user engagement, especially when conducted by eMulti teams. However, the studies also highlighted challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, low user adherence, lack of trained professionals, and the absence of systematization of these actions in the daily routine of PHC services. It is concluded that physical activity programs within PHC are a powerful strategy for promoting healthy aging, provided they are aligned with public policy guidelines and implemented in a welcoming, continuous manner, and sensitive to local realities. This requires structural investments, continuous professional development, intersectoral actions, and encouragement of community participation, ensuring equitable access and expanding the effectiveness of care for older adults

Introduction: Given the exponential growth of Information and Communication Technologies, digital skills are increasingly required of individuals, including the elderly. However, the elderly have faced greater challenges in terms of rapid and increasing digital inclusion in recent years due to physiological changes characteristic of aging and the generational issue of non-digital natives. In view of this, health literacy is configured as a strategy to encourage and discuss the digital inclusion of elderly people. Objective: In the meantime, the objective was to build and validate an educational technology (ET) in digital format addressing the discussion of digital proficiency of elderly people as an important social determinant of health. Method: To this end, a methodological study was developed based on the ADDIE technique (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) for booklets whose content validation occurred by a sample of experts. In general, the target audience, objective, type and requirements of the ET, health service for potential use in health promotion activities and basic theoretical framework to support the content were defined in the ET planning. During the development phase, the TE was structured and laid out using the CANVA® application. The TE was validated by assigning scores to specific criteria of content, clarity of language, layout, accessibility, interactivity, and relevance by two experts. These experts performed two assessments (t1 and t2). In t1, they had to justify the reasons for not assigning a 100% score for the criterion. After these justifications were submitted, adjustments were made. After the TE was resubmitted and assessed in t2, the TE was considered validated if a score >= 90% of the total criterion was achieved. Results: A digital booklet was obtained addressing content related to the health policy for the elderly, digital determinants in health, highlighting the digital inclusion of the elderly as a demand of this policy and of the current policies and programs aimed at digital transformation in Brazil. The booklet presents concepts of digital competence, problematizes the importance of these competences in daily life and presents ways to begin the digital literacy process. Final considerations: The aim is to contribute to the reduction of social inequities arising from the digital exclusion of elderly people that impact their quality of life through a TE focused on health promotion practices and to encourage discussion about the presence of content from the Digital Health Field in the training processes of health professionals such as the bachelor's undergraduate degree in public health.

This study aims to map the practical integration of undergraduate Public Health students into the health services of the Unified Health System (SUS), based on the analysis of Course Pedagogical Projects (CPPs). This is a descriptive documentary study that analyzed 22 CPPs from public higher education institutions in Brazil. Data were collected from public sources and systematized into a spreadsheet, with subsequent thematic analysis. The results showed that most courses meet the minimum workload of 3,200 hours established by the National Curricular Guidelines for Undergraduate Public Health Programs (DCNsCGSC), and 81.8% meet the minimum requirement of 500 hours for the Supervised Curricular Internship (ECS). Practical integration occurs primarily through ECS, practical activities, and non-mandatory internships. The main practical curricular components are mostly mandatory (91.2%) and are distributed throughout the undergraduate program, although some courses still concentrate practicals only in the final semesters. Practical settings include primary, medium, and high-complexity care, health surveillance, health management, educational settings, and community spaces, such as quilombos, villages, and indigenous communities. The activities developed range from situational diagnoses and health promotion actions to public policy monitoring. Furthermore, the study reveals progressive alignment with the DCNsCGSC and highlights advances in integrated training, although challenges persist, such as standardization of nomenclature, professional integration of graduates, and the shortage of preceptors in the field. The study highlights the need for future research that should incorporate the perceptions of coordinators, preceptors, managers, and students, seeking to improve the quality and effectiveness of the teaching-service integration. It is concluded that the teaching-service articulation has the potential to strengthen the training of Sanitarians and contribute to the strengthening of health care in the SUS, but still requires efforts for institutional consolidation and professional recognition.
