Biblioteca Humana: manual de implantação para a Biblioteca Estadual Câmara Cascudo - Vol. 2
(Ed. dos autores, 2026-01-23) Silva, Ilaydiany Cristina Oliveira da; 0000-0002-3171-7878; organizer
This is a sophisticated academic text, so I’ve opted for a professional and formal tone that maintains the flow of the original Portuguese while ensuring the terminology (like "Human Library" and "Library Science") aligns with international standards. Translation: Manual for the Implementation of the Human Library This Volume 2 of the Manual for the Implementation of the Human Library at the Câmara Cascudo State Library continues the work initiated in the first edition, deepening and expanding the understanding of the planning, execution, and evaluation process of this cultural mediation service. While Volume 1 presented the conceptual foundations, the initial organizational stages, and the results of the pilot experience, this new volume brings together the methodological improvements, revised strategies, and updated procedures that emerged from the project's ongoing practice. Produced by students of the courses "Information and Reference Services" and "Information User Studies"—both taught by Professor Ilaydiany Cristina Oliveira da Silva within the Library Science program at UFRN—this volume systematizes the operational stages developed during the project's second edition. It documents everything from the selection of themes (defined collectively by participants of the previous edition) to the development of execution, communication, and logistics plans. It serves as a detailed record that highlights the technical and reflective growth of the teams involved, revealing the maturity acquired in managing outreach actions, articulating with partner institutions, and conducting information services geared toward the community. By presenting procedures, challenges faced, strategic decisions, evaluation instruments, and developed products, this volume reaffirms the Human Library as a space for dialogue, active listening, and social transformation. Likewise, it demonstrates the capacity of Library Science to produce innovative services that are sensitive to contemporary demands and committed to valuing the human narratives that make up the social fabric. Thus, Volume 2 does not merely continue the journey started previously; it deepens it, consolidating a complete manual for the replication and strengthening of the proposal

O rio que fala, o mangue que respira
(Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025) Lucena, Henrique Alexandre Medeiros; Macêdo, Patrícia Ladeira Penna; Cunha, Jacqueline de Araújo; https://orcid.org/0009-0004-5622-8909; https://orcid.org/0009-0003-8215-3763; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1058-4260; organizer
The e-book "O rio que fala, o mangue que respira" (The river that speaks, the mangrove that breathes), the second volume of the "Information, Education, and History" series by the Historical and Geographical Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IHGRN), is a multidisciplinary production dedicated to the Potengi River and its estuarine ecosystem. The publication is part of the 19th Primavera dos Museus (Spring of Museums), whose 2025 theme is "Museums and Climate Change," establishing a reflection between memory, identity, and the socio-environmental crisis. The work centers on the Potengi — which in Tupi means "river of shrimp" and was the original toponym of the Captaincy — as a fundamental historical and cultural element, yet one that is currently "forgotten and mistreated" by the capital. From a historical and urbanistic perspective, the text criticizes Natal's growth model, which developed "with its back to the river," neglecting landscape integration and the preservation of a natural resource that marked its origins. From the standpoint of Information Science and Archival Science, the document proposes a significant conceptual expansion. The Potengi River is defined not merely as a subject of record, but as a polymorphous and polysemic Information Source (IS), functioning as a living repository that stores, generates, and transmits knowledge regarding the history and environmental condition of Rio Grande do Norte. Adopting the post-custodial paradigm, the publication characterizes it as a Living Archive. In this perspective, the elements of the ecosystem act as records: pollutants, such as coliforms and plastics, serve as evidence of urban expansion and sanitation failures. The mangrove, in turn, is a "documentary fund" of high value, safeguarding the immaterial knowledge of riverside communities. Its degradation is viewed as the destruction of a documentary collection and the silencing of historical voices. The work encompasses discussions on Environmental Racism and Climate Change, linking the contemporary ecological crisis to the legacies of colonialism and an extractivist modus vivendi. Finally, it proposes that the rediscovery of the Potengi and the promotion of ecotourism — with an ethical and sustainable commitment — are paths toward ecological reconnection and the appreciation of heritage, reaffirming the river as a link between the past, present, and future of the Potiguar identity

The work presents the first diagnosis of libraries in public schools in the city of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte. Federal Law No. 14.837/2024 (updating Law 12.244/2010), which mandates libraries, respecting the librarian profession, has not yet become a reality in the municipality of Natal. The exploratory and descriptive research used a questionnaire completed by school principals as a data collection instrument. Among the findings identified were: inadequate functioning and facilities; lack of librarians; poor organization; dissatisfaction with collections; underutilization of collections and services offered, among others. Finally, a bill is proposed to create the position of librarian and a school library. Effective improvements in public education require the presence of libraries with librarians to develop services and products for the community

Considering the relevance of gather, storage, dissemination and preservation of digital data and information in the context of open access scientific production, “Digital repositories: theory and practice”, as a product derived from the 1st National Forum of Digital Repositories, that happened in the year of 2016, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, presents discussions that point to theoretical and practical trends in the research and implementation of digital repositories in the Ibero-American scenario. The chapters, signed by researchers and professionals who are dedicating their work to Open Access, reflect on the tools and technologies for information management, metadata, digital curation, policies and methodologies for the implementation of digital repositories, bringing significant contribution to the advances of studies and practices in digital repositories in the scientific, technological and social spheres.
