Doctoral Thesis Transferência de tecnologia em Universidades Federais Brasileiras: uma análise da eficiência e do papel das políticas institucionais(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-12-18) Maciel, Raquel Siqueira; Sampaio, Raquel Menezes Bezerra; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0685-5830; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9368661158330209; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3758-5271; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4561680786953734; Schaeffer, Paola Rücker; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0437-0987; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8072626942858856; Taño, Debora Regina; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5815-8773; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6643308942785377; Carvalho, Anne Emilia Costa; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0191-7115; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6803076056551170; Bezerra, Samira Yusef Araújo de Falani; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2780917633734284Technology transfer plays a central role in the so called third mission of universities, alongside teaching and research, and is fundamental for innovation, competitiveness, and economic development. In the Brazilian context, this process has been driven by public policies, such as the 2004 Innovation Law and the Legal Framework for Science, Technology and Innovation, which established guidelines to strengthen cooperation between universities, government, and the productive sector. In addition, universities own innovation policies, created to meet legal requirements and to guide the management of internal processes related to intellectual property and technology transfer, have become structuring elements of the system. In Brazil, despite regulatory advances and the growth of intellectual property production, there are low levels of commercialization and strong heterogeneity among federal universities, resulting in low efficiency and asymmetries. In this scenario, this thesis seeks to answer the following research question: how is the efficiency of technology transfer in Brazilian federal universities related to the quality of the normative design of their institutional innovation policies? To this end, the study is structured into three complementary articles. The first consists of a systematic literature review covering 128 articles published between 1995 and 2024, identifying study characteristics, outcome and explanatory variables, theories used, and research gaps. Article 2 analyzes, through a quantitative content analysis approach, 157 documents of Brazilian federal universities, in the light of the Resource Based View and Actor Network Theory. The findings reveal a robust normative core in governance, intellectual property, and financial incentives, but weaknesses in technological prospecting, support services, post licensing monitoring, and the strengthening of an entrepreneurial culture. Article 3 measures the efficiency of technology transfer in federal universities using dynamic network Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and estimates three Tobit regression models that relate efficiency to the indicators of normative quality derived from Article 2. The results show that the main bottleneck lies in the technology transfer stage and that financial and incentive instruments, as well as more structured governance arrangements for technology transfer offices, are positively associated with efficiency, especially in the stage of intellectual property generation.Doctoral Thesis "Quem não é visto, não é lembrado?": um olhar sobre a autoapresentação on-line na gestão da marca pessoal de mulheres empresárias(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-12-12) Brito, Jéssica Vivianne da Cunha Silva de; Ramos, Anatalia Saraiva Martins; http://orcid.org/0000-0002-8578-2018; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1151025937054810; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6814-492X; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1990191158236432; Salomão, Miriam Tais; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6217-5645; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4134994228059503; Dantas, Bruna Lourena de Lima; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3935-5947; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2008743465694884; Ferreira, Lissa Valéria Fernandes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8015374156967844; Araújo, Maria Valéria Pereira de; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6302-1173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9227834040889428The shifting perspectives in the business environment, intensified by the growing use of online social media, have expanded the centrality of personal brand management in professional practice. This movement has become particularly relevant among women entrepreneurs of micro and small businesses, for whom Instagram has emerged as one of the primary mechanisms for visibility, communication, and audience engagement. Although the personal branding literature has accompanied this evolution, existing approaches still tend to emphasize motivations, benefits, and strategies, while the challenges, tensions, and negative implications of self-presentation remain underexplored. This thesis addresses this gap by deepening the understanding of adverse aspects associated with online self-presentation and examining how these factors affect the personal brand management of these entrepreneurs. In this context, the objective of this thesis was to critically analyze how aspects inherent to self-presentation on online social networks influence the personal brand management of women entrepreneurs in this environment. To achieve this goal, the study sought to understand how they structure their self-presentation, identify the challenges that shape this process, and propose a framework to help mitigate these difficulties. The research adopted a qualitative, netnographic approach, with data collected on Instagram through observation, participant observation, and semi-structured interviews. The analysis, supported by Atlas.ti software, involved two coding cycles, the development of analytic memos, refinement of categories, and articulation with the personal branding literature and self-presentation theory. The findings indicate that online selfpresentation aimed at managing one’s personal brand unfolds through a continuous process of regulating one’s image, in which entrepreneurs simultaneously manage visibility, coherence, and narrative control. The strategies used to consolidate their brand – such as choices of content, formats, arguments, and degrees of personal disclosure – vary according to the meaning attributed to what is posted and the boundaries each woman establishes for herself. However, this movement does not operate solely within a strategic domain; it is permeated by tensions that directly affect well-being, such as routine demands, balancing multiple roles, pressure for consistency, insecurities, and mechanisms of self-censorship that generate emotional strain and a recurring sense of overload. The critical analysis shows that the logic of continuous visibility intensifies self-regulation and fuels a persistent feeling of fatigue, revealing that personal brand management involves tensions that go beyond commonly disseminated technical recommendations. Based on these findings, a five-dimensional framework was developed that synthesizes key elements for more mindful personal brand management. The model contributes by shifting the debate from prescriptive recommendations to a more critical and humanized understanding of self-presentation, recognizing that this process entails not only communication choices but also emotional and identity negotiations. Theoretically, the thesis advances the field by demonstrating that self-presentation is not only a strategic practice but also an experience marked by vulnerabilities and dilemmas. Practically, it offers guidelines that can support entrepreneurs and professionals in developing strategies that are less exhausting and more aligned with the specific characteristics of human experience.Doctoral Thesis Proposição de um modelo para o gerenciamento do sucesso em projetos de PD&I(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-09-23) Silva, Rosaneide Maria Garcia da; Araújo, Maria Valéria Pereira de; Mól, Anderson Luiz Rezende; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5915-8070; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4968429773311336; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6302-1173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9227834040889428; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4395709472976822; Matias, Esdras Matheus Silva; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2178-7100; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8131443301358985; Pessanha, Gabriel Rodrigo Gomes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8249746486373025; Medeiros, Marcos Fernando Machado de; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7410-9290; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4056958461629209; Silva, Rafael Rodrigues daResearch, Development, and Innovation (R&D&I) projects can generate significant economic and social impacts while driving knowledge advancement through the creation of new technologies and innovations. Although the scientific literature on the success of such projects is extensive, it still lacks a holistic perspective. In this regard, studies that deepen the discussion and broaden the understanding of this topic are necessary. Within this context, the present investigation aims to identify and analyze the dimensions and success factors of R&D&I projects in order to propose a model for managing R&D&I success, considering environmental influences. This study adopts a mixed-methods approach, beginning with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), whose results revealed a wide variety of factors and criteria influencing project performance. These were organized into three main dimensions: negotiation success, process success, and results success. Furthermore, the analysis highlighted the relevance of internal and external environmental conditions, which play a decisive role in achieving success in R&D&I. These findings led to the development of a theoretical framework, subsequently subjected to qualitative empirical validation in the contexts of Brazil and the United States, and quantitative validation in the Brazilian context. During the validation process, qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with Brazilian and American experts to deepen the discussion of each success dimension and its relationship with environmental factors. These data were analyzed using Directed Content Analysis. Quantitative data, in turn, were obtained through a survey conducted exclusively with Brazilian experts and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The qualitative and quantitative results confirmed the theoretical and practical validity and applicability of the proposed framework, providing relevant contributions to both the scientific advancement of the field and practical applications in the R&D&I domain.Doctoral Thesis O paradigma do compartilhamento: um estudo dos aluguéis de curta temporada em Natal, à luz do serviço transformativo(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-09-24) Alves, Rebeka Coelho de Almeida; Araújo, Maria Valéria Pereira de; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6302-1173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9227834040889428; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4216550648465183; Matias, Esdras Matheus Silva; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2178-7100; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8131443301358985; Paes, Diego Cristovão Alves de Souza; Silva, Dmitryev Cyreneu da; Pessanha, Gabriel Rodrigo GomesThe rise of the sharing economy, driven by Industry 4.0 and the "platformization" of services, has significantly transformed the hospitality sector. While platforms like Airbnb generate billions of dollars globally, their impacts in developing countries remain largely unexplored. This study aimed to analyze the challenges and dilemmas of consumer relationships generated by Airbnb in the city of Natal, Brazil, through the lens of Transformative Service Research (TSR). The research employed a mixed-method case study, combining data scraping from the platform with interviews and participant observation. The empirical analysis focused on four TSR domains: territorial, sociological, commercial, and institutional. The findings indicate that Airbnb's presence in Natal raises complex dilemmas for the sustainable and balanced development of the local ecosystem. Territorial implications include the verticalization of the city and real estate speculation, while the commercial sphere shows the creation of jobs and income, along with the opening of new markets. From a sociological perspective, there are changes insocial dynamics within tourist neighborhoods and the risk of gentrification. Finally, institutional challenges involve the need for monitoring and for tax and legal regulation of public policies that balance the interests of all actors in the tourism industry. This thesis contributes to the debate by characterizing Airbnb's impacts within the tourism context of one of Brazil's most popular destinations. It highlights the complexity of the phenomenon for the development of similar tourist destinations and initiates a deeper discussion on the topic at the state level.Doctoral Thesis Desenvolvimento de uma escala teórica multidimensional da interface logística e marketing para avaliação de estratégias omnichannel(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-09-29) Silva Filho, Alexandre Magno da; Araújo, Maria Valéria Pereira de; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6302-1173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9227834040889428; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1319524321665639; Matias, Esdras Matheus Silva; Brito, Max Leandro de Araújo; Rocha, Fabricia Abrantes Figueiredo da; Pessanha, Gabriel Rodrigo GomesThe expansion of multichannel retail strategies into an omnichannel logic represents one of the most significant transformations in contemporary business practices. This perspective entails a paradigm shift by integrating customer touchpoints, making them complementary and building a fluid, non-linear, and customer-centered purchase journey. Although omnichannel adoption has proven effective in terms of organizational results, it also poses relevant challenges, particularly because it simultaneously encompasses logistics and marketing dimensions. These challenges reinforce the need for studies that propose an integrated analysis of the interface between these two areas, with emphasis on the logistical risks involved in the omnichannel customer journey. In addition, recent literature highlights the importance of developing instruments capable of measuring the outcomes and efficiency of this journey. In this context, this dissertation aimed to develop a theoretical multidimensional scale capable of jointly assessing customer experience and logistics risks along the omnichannel journey. The proposal aligns with recent studies (Radomska et al., 2025; Gasparin & Slongo, 2023), which advocate for more robust metrics to evaluate operational efficiency and the risks associated with omnichannel retail. The research was structured in three stages: a theoretical review of the omnichannel concept at the marketing–logistics interface; an analysis of practices and patterns identified in published case studies; and a conceptual systematization of the dimensions, culminating in the proposal of a multidimensional theoretical scale. The final outcome presents a scale composed of three dimensions derived from the reviews. The first, related to marketing, is named customer experience; the second, focused on logistical aspects, is defined as logistics risks; and the third, with an integrative nature, is defined as purchase journey, encompassing both operational logistics and marketing strategies in a combined framework.Doctoral Thesis Ensaios sobre gastos escolares e resultados educacionais: revisão da literatura e evidências dos efeitos na educação básica no Brasil(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-08-06) Lima, Roberto José Vieira de Sousa; Sampaio, Luciano Menezes Bezerra; Sampaio, Raquel Menezes Bezerra; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0685-5830; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9368661158330209; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1632-3149; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3807603064705018; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2387039872701852; Carvalho, Anne Emilia Costa; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0191-7115; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6803076056551170; Irffi, Guilherme Diniz; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8821559850261716; Lichand, Guilherme Finkelfarb; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7729222417374810; Cruz, Tássia de Souza; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1627-9467; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7265298997300454Given educational inequality, which reflects social disparities in Brazil, funding policies and the allocation of financial resources emerge as relevant factors in the context of basic education. Investigating how these resources are used, as well as their effects on educational outcomes, is essential. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of these policies and financial resources on the structure of basic education in Brazil. To this end, the thesis is organized into three essays. Essay 1 conducts a systematic review of the literature on the relationship between school spending and educational performance, covering 45 studies from various databases published between 2015 and 2022. The findings indicate positive effects of spending on academic performance, especially for disadvantaged groups, although most analyses focus on developed countries. The review suggests that studies in less developed contexts, such as Brazil, may lead to different implications. Essay 2 investigates the effects of the new Fundeb, implemented in 2021, on municipal educational indicators in Brazil, using a simulated difference-in-differences model with data from 2017 to 2023. Treating the policy as an exogenous event, municipalities were classified as big winners, big losers, and neutral, based on their net Fundeb balance. The results show that big winners presented improvements in early-grade IDEB scores, Portuguese language scores, and reductions in age-grade distortion, along with a slight increase in enrollment in early childhood education. In contrast, big losers experienced an increase in age-grade distortion. These findings suggest that the redistribution of resources through the new Fundeb may contribute to improving the quality of basic education. Essay 3 examines the effects of the policy on educational inequalities across municipalities, combining the Theil-T index with a simulated difference-in-differences model for the 2017–2023 period. The analysis covers inequalities in access, infrastructure, and student performance, focusing on the same groups of municipalities. The results indicate progress in reducing disparities in access and infrastructure, especially in childcare and early grades, although challenges persist in later grades. The Fundeb update suggests redistributive effects that still warrant further investigation. The three essays contribute to the analysis of the impacts of funding policies and financial resources on Brazilian education, providing evidence to support interventions aimed at promoting greater equity and quality within the education system.Doctoral Thesis Ensaios sobre o efeito da extensão da jornada escolar no desempenho acadêmico dos estudantes da educação básica(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-02-27) Marques, Jessica Janaina Santos; Sampaio, Luciano Menezes Bezerra; Sampaio, Raquel Menezes Bezerra; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1632-3149; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3807603064705018; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6649864011064254; Rosa, Leonardo Santana Nunes; Carvalho, Anne Emilia Costa; Irffi, Guilherme Diniz; Araújo, Julia RochaThe quality of basic education is a global concern, leading to the implementation of various policies aimed at improving the learning process of students in the early stages of schooling. Among these initiatives, the extension of school hours stands out as one of the main strategies adopted, particularly in Latin American countries. From this perspective, this thesis presents three essays on the evaluation of school time extension policies and their effects on students' academic performance. The first essay aims to assess the empirical evidence regarding the impact of extended school hours on the performance of basic education students through a systematic literature review. The findings indicate a predominance of analyses focused on language and mathematics, with varying impacts—mostly positive or null. Additionally, interventions incorporating activities directly related to the content assessed in standardized exams yielded the best results. The study also found that socioeconomically disadvantaged students benefit the most from increased instructional time. The second essay analyzes the impact of Brazilian full-time public high schools on students' scores in the National High School Exam (ENEM) and the National System for the Evaluation of Basic Education (SAEB). The difference-in-differences method, both in its conventional format and with multiple time periods, was applied using school-level ENEM data from 2010 to 2019 and SAEB data from 2017 and 2019. The results indicate positive effects across all ENEM subject areas (human sciences, natural sciences, languages, mathematics, and essay writing), albeit with low magnitude and only in the short term. Furthermore, better SAEB results were observed in the states of the Northeast (Pernambuco, Paraíba, and Ceará) and Midwest (Goiás) regions. Finally, the third essay evaluates the effect of full-time schools on the performance of elementary school students in the state of Ceará using two assessments: the Permanent System for the Evaluation of Basic Education of the State of Ceará (SPAECE) from 2012 to 2019 and SAEB from 2011 to 2019. The results, based on the difference-in-differences method with multiple time periods, suggest positive effects on Portuguese and mathematics scores for full-time schools in the 5th and 9th grades of elementary education, even with a short treatment duration.Doctoral Thesis Ensaios sobre a equidade na Atenção Primária à Saúde: uma revisão de escopo e a análise da eficiência municipal e uma avaliação do programa Mais Médicos(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-12-20) Luz, Lucas Martorelli Gondim; Sampaio, Luciano Menezes Bezerra; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1632-3149; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3807603064705018; https://orcid.org/0009-0001-7426-3802; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8213779190183623; Carvalho, Anne Emilia Costa; Costa, Edward Martins; Torres, Lívia Mariana Lopes de Souza; Sampaio, Raquel Menezes BezerraPrimary Health Care (PHC), as a care model, represents the starting point in health systems. In the Brazilian context, the Unified Health System (SUS) is the structure that aims to ensure universal and free access to health services, based on the pillars of equity, comprehensiveness, and social participation. However, as with global health systems, SUS faces pressing challenges, with the limitation of financial and human resources being a significant obstacle that impacts its ability to provide effective and consistent care. One approach to improving equity in primary care involves the rational allocation of resources, seeking to maximize service provision while minimizing waste. This study presents three essays on equity in PHC, aiming to provide evidence to enhance SUS planning. The first essay consists of a scoping review of the literature on efficiency in PHC and its relationship with the concept of equity, covering 45 articles that used Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The review results highlight that human resources and infrastructure are the most frequently associated inputs in producing health actions and outcomes. Furthermore, most DEA models in the reviewed articles address equity solely in relation to “Health Access,” often using demographic and urbanization variables in a second stage to support efficiency scores. The second essay analyzes the efficiency of Primary Health Care in Brazil concerning the use and allocation of health resources to increase equity in municipal services. The methodology employed is the Dynamic Network Data Envelopment Analysis, with three divisions (Financial, Operational, and Outcome), covering the years 2019 to 2021, with municipalities as Decision-Making Units (DMUs) stratified by population size. The results indicated that the average efficiency of Brazilian municipalities slightly increased over the analyzed years, with the greatest efficiency gains in the Operational division and losses in the Financial division. Two profiles of efficient municipalities were identified: one in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil and the other in the Center-West, Southeast, and South regions. The analyses showed that municipalities with up to 25,000 inhabitants had the lowest percentage of efficient municipalities. In the second-stage analysis, a negative effect was identified on overall efficiency scores for municipalities classified as “Adjacent Rural”; social vulnerability also negatively affected these efficiency scores, while the population's educational level had a positive effect. The third essay evaluates the impact of the Mais Médicos Program on the allocation of physicians in the Family Health Strategy and its influence on health access equity for Brazil’s most vulnerable populations. Using a difference-in-differences model with multiple periods (2010-2019), a positive effect was observed in the provision of doctors, especially in 2016. However, this impact declined in subsequent years, being negatively affected by the interruption of the international cooperation agreement. The program benefited three of the eight priority profiles, reinforcing its importance in expanding equity in health access.Doctoral Thesis Diversificação internacional de carteiras com Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) nos BRICS e hubs internacionais(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-12-19) Nóbrega, Mariane Bezerra; Felipe, Israel José dos Santos; Mól, Anderson Luiz Rezende; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5915-8070; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4968429773311336; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8608-0029; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4608734331831234; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5320124402375484; Oliveira, Abdinardo Moreira Barreto de; Oliveira, Celina Santos de; Carvalho, João Vinicius de FrançaThis paper is a cross-country study aimed at analyzing the impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) on international portfolio diversification and stock pricing, considering the integration between BRICS and international hubs. Initially, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted on portfolio diversification and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). In summary, the studies highlight that the impact of ESG on investments can be considered positive, but it depends on various factors such as company size, geographic location, sector, portfolio formation methods, investor profile, and time horizon. Based on this, the integration between countries will be analyzed to assess the theoretical benefits of international diversification with different investment holding periods, establishing portfolio positions, and international capital flows. This analysis will be extended to the perspective of the ESG investor, and the possible impact of ESG scores on stock pricing in the international market will be examined. The empirical investigation of the potential link between ESG, asset pricing, and international portfolio diversification in the stock market can provide insights into the performance of ESG investments, which is of primary interest to different stakeholders. This study seeks to contribute to the literature by providing a empirical analysis of how different levels of financial integration and the economic status of countries can influence the effectiveness of ESG international portfolio diversification, helping investors make more informed decisions. The detrended cross-correlation analysis (DCCA) results showed that correlation increases proportionally with scales (size), reflecting greater complexity or longrange dependence as temporal scales expand. However, different market pairs exhibit significant variations in ρDCCA, reflecting varying levels of integration or dependence. Developed markets show consistent integration across all time horizons, while BRICS markets display greater heterogeneity. Regarding wavelet analysis, the results suggest that hub markets exhibit a high level of integration across all time horizons, particularly at longer scales, reflecting their structural interconnectedness and economic alignment. On the other hand, BRICS markets, being more diverse and dependent on local factors, show lower global integration, with weaker correlations at short and medium scales. For the analysis without ESG, the Sharpe ratio indicated that portfolios formed by hubs, particularly those involving the US and Japan, demonstrated superior consistency, while the lowest average ratio was observed for portfolios formed by BRICS. The time horizon analysis indicated that combinations including hubs consistently outperformed across all horizons. Regarding risk premiums, the results show that hubs exhibit more stable and predictable risk premiums, reflecting the maturity and efficiency of their markets, with notable positive size factor (SMB) and negative book-tomarket factor (HmL), indicating a focus on smaller growth companies. In BRICS markets, higher volatility led to higher premiums for SMB and investment factor (CmA), highlighting the opportunities and risks associated with emerging markets. The estimated models underscore the relevance of SMB and HmL as return determinants in hubs, while the six-factor model appears more appropriate for explaining returns in BRICS. When ESG scores are included in the analysis, portfolios formed by the US, Germany, India, and South Africa show superior performance. This result suggests that these regions, when combined, offer a more favorable balance between risk and return. The worst-performing portfolios included the combination of Japan, Brazil, India, and South Africa, with BRICS portfolios showing the poorest performance overall. The time horizon analysis of portfolios based on aggregated ESG scores reveals that most combinations of developed countries outperformed the benchmark (SPX). Conversely, the BRICS combination underperformed all others across all horizons, exceeding the benchmark in only 50% of the portfolios. For portfolios based on segregated ESG scores, the BRICS combination again showed inferior performance across all horizons, exceeding the benchmark in only 50% in the short term and 56.25% in the medium and long term. The pricing models reinforced the difference in the relevance of risk factors between hubs and BRICS. In hubs, the aggregated ESG factor (WmB) was highly significant, suggesting that weaker ESG practices demand a higher risk premium. In BRICS markets, while the WmB factor was positive, its statistical significance was inconsistent, reflecting the lesser maturity of ESG integration in these markets. When analyzing segregated ESG factors, the environmental factor (E-WmB) was more relevant in hubs, while the social factor (S-WmB) was more significant in BRICS markets. The results highlight that the incorporation of ESG practices varies widely between developed and emerging markets, with important implications for investors and policymakers. In hubs, ESG integration is already a consolidated differentiator, while in BRICS markets, gradual adoption may create long-term opportunities.Doctoral Thesis Perspectivas para a adoção da gamificação com ênfase na prosperidade global: reflexão do contexto administrativo brasileiro(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-12-17) Silva, Dmitryev Cyreneu da; Araújo, Maria Valéria Pereira de; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6302-1173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9227834040889428; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7029-6482; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8548573329519450; Junger, Alex Paubel; Gonçalves, Anderson Tiago Peixoto; Matias, Esdras Matheus Silva; Brito, Max Leandro de Araújo; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2827-9886; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8629663810773172Gamification is the application of typical game elements in non-gaming contexts, and it can be applied in education, including in the field of Administration. With manipulable metrics and designs, in practice, games tend to exacerbate the inherent characteristics of the mode of production to explore real-world contexts, often reproducing an economistic vision of Administration within their elements. Global Prosperity, on the other hand, refers to a concept even broader than prosperity itself, recognizing the interconnectedness of economies, cultures, and ecosystems in a globalized world. It advocates for an integrated view of human development, prioritizing social and environmental justice on a planetary scale, requiring the overcoming of economic structures that frequently place financial growth above human and ecological well-being. This study aims to understand the aspects and perspectives of adopting gamification, considering the challenges of Global Prosperity. It employs a qualitative approach based on systematic and narrative literature reviews and the analysis of different perspectives, citing the point of view of researchers, teachers and materially of educational institutions and the job market, even if indirectly, to investigate how gamification and serious games can transform manager training, surpassing the prevailing mode of production. Gamification is understood as the use of characteristic elements of games in environments that are not geared towards entertainment, providing new approaches to training managers. Its implementation occurs through serious games, which are simulations developed with an educational objective in addition to entertainment. Data collection methods include structured online interviews with 35 Management professors and a systematic review of gamification and the application of serious games in Brazil. The results indicate that gamification, by integrating elements such as challenges and rewards, enhances engagement and learning retention. However, these elements are often applied with a positivist and economistic approach. Its implementation still faces significant barriers, including a lack of teacher training and institutional resistance to innovative curricula. The ideological frameworks of professors and academic productions tend to reproduce neoliberal dynamics by using metrics focused on efficiency, reflecting an inclination toward the reproducibility of state apparatuses. The research highlights that critical and adaptive training for both managers and educators is essential to address global challenges such as inequality and sustainability. It concludes that gamification is a viable and promising alternative for teaching Administration, provided it is applied strategically and contextualized to local realities. The study underscores the need for structural changes in education, advocating for the integration of active methodologies and teacher training to prepare managers better equipped to tackle global and interdisciplinary challenges.Doctoral Thesis Popularização da ciência e curricularização da educação alimentar e nutricional na gestão social do programa nacional de alimentação escolar(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-12-17) Torres, Romoaldo Marroque; Sousa, Washington José de; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6295-2806; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2387611219688981; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8588615869531030; Calazans, Dinara Leslye Macedo e Silva; Alexandre, Mauro Lemuel de Oliveira; Cunha, Eduardo Vivian da; Siqueira, Elisabete Stradiotto; Sguarezi, Sandro BeneditoThis thesis investigates the popularization of science as a methodology for integrating Food and Nutrition Education (FNE) into the curriculum within the National School Feeding Program (PNAE). The objective is to analyze the application of science popularization resources and curricular integration of food and nutrition education in the social management of the PNAE, grounded in the implementation of its guidelines under the terms of Article 2 of Law No. 11,947/2009. The research highlights gaps in understanding the legal requirements among public managers, basic education teachers, and members of family farming, as well as a deficit in scientific literacy practices, which justifies the adoption of science popularization and social management mechanisms in schools. Collaboration with the Organization for Learning and Knowledge in Solidarity Initiatives (OASIS/UFRN) was essential. The research reveals that the PNAE has been limited to addressing hunger, without leveraging its educational potential. Continuous monitoring of the PNAE's implementation is recommended, focusing on teacher training and the provision of appropriate resources for the curricular integration of FNE. The action-research conducted, which included the co-production of educational materials, underscored the need for political-institutional commitment from managers and continuous training for educators. The thesis proposes the full implementation of the PNAE with an approach that integrates political-institutional and techno-economic dimensions. The PIAC method and a Matrix of Elements by Thematic Axis for the curricularization of FNE in the PNAE were developed, incorporating content such as local living conditions, food supply, social control, and the impacts of dietary consumption on health. The research suggests changes to the PNAE's public policy, including continuous teacher training, support for school infrastructure, and strengthening ties with family farming. For future studies, the application of management and science popularization resources is recommended, focusing on a stable teaching staff and a regular school routine.Doctoral Thesis Agricultura familiar e Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar: categorias analíticas, mercado de compras e papel dos burocratas de nível de rua(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-11-06) Silva, Francisco Dreno Viana da; Sousa, Washington José de; Ferreira, Marco Aurélio Marques; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6295-2806; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2387611219688981; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5886-4990; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3707396722617723; Calazans, Dinara Leslye Macedo e Silva; Alexandre, Mauro Lemuel de Oliveira; Cunha, Eduardo Vivian da; Siqueira, Elisabete StradiottoThe objective is to analyze the integration of family farming into the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), using purchasing experiences from municipalities in the Metropolitan Region of Cariri (RMC – Ceará) as the empirical basis and the theoretical framework of the street-level bureaucracy construct. The first article aims to delimit analytical categories in Brazilian academic research on family farming. It is a literature review study with a qualitative, exploratory, and documentary approach. The database comprises theses and dissertations registered in the Capes Theses and Dissertations Catalog, within the major area of knowledge "Applied Social Sciences." The content was subjected to computerized lexicographical analysis using the Iramuteq software and grouped according to Habermas' theory of cognitive interest. In addition to the methodology class, centered on qualitative approach resources, three other classes reflect technical, practical, and emancipatory interests. Even with an emphasis on management and economic efficiency (technical interest), stricto sensu research on family farming shows orientations toward the field of hermeneutics (practical interest) and perspectives of strengthening and emancipation of this socio-productive category (emancipatory interest). The second article seeks to characterize the institutional market for family farming food purchases in the municipalities of the Cariri Metropolitan Region (RMC/CE) within the scope of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE). The results reveal progress in acquisitions of groups of fresh and minimally processed products supplied by local producers. The prices paid are, on average, higher than those in the Wholesale Center. Purchases comply with the legal minimum of 30%. The third article focuses on understanding the connections between the actions of street-level bureaucrats and the execution of family farming purchases in the context of the Metropolitan Region of Cariri/Ceará state. Primary data were collected using a semi-structured interview instrument and analyzed through qualitative content analysis, with the theory of street-level bureaucracy as a reference. The results show that factors such as the minimum requirement of 30% (Law No. 11,947, of June 16, 2009) of purchases from family farming contribute to integrating local producers into the institutional market. This occurs through the relative autonomy of bureaucrats, allowing adjustments to the school menu to meet local production conditions and continuous interactions between bureaucracy and family farmers, enabling adaptations that enhance PNAE's effectiveness. In conclusion, the actions of street-level bureaucrats reveal constant interactions with farmers, creating implementation arrangements essential for integrating family farming into the institutional food market.Doctoral Thesis Modelos de distribuição orçamentária interna em instituições públicas de ensino: estudo do processo no Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Norte(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-11-26) Fernandes, Diogo Robson Monte; Araújo, Maria Valéria Pereira de; Mól, Anderson Luiz Rezende; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5915-8070; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4968429773311336; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6302-1173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9227834040889428; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1390-1700; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1473418328157983; Brito, Max Leandro de Araújo; Matias, Esdras Matheus Silva; Rocha, Fabricia Abrantes Figueiredo da; Barreto, Lais Karla da SilvaThe education budget is a topic of great relevance for public administration and requires attention from studies so that they can be applied in a way that allows its best application. Budget distribution in federal educational institutions is part of these administrative decisions and is the scope of this thesis, which aims to discuss the internal budget distribution model in one of the Federal Educational Institutes, considering the perception of administrative managers of the institution and criteria adopted in other federal educational institutions. The methodological execution consisted of four phases, starting with documentary research in scientific publications, public and institutional documents of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education, to identify and analyze the criteria and indicators present in the budget distribution models in several educational institutions of the network carried out in the next phase. The second phase focused on a comparative analysis of these models. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were conducted with administrative managers from the studied institution to gather insights into their perceptions of the budget allocation model, contrasting them with the indicators used in other institutions. As a contribution, this study promotes a discussion on intra-institutional budget allocation models, critically reflecting on current practices and proposing a foundation for future research into innovative budget allocation structures in federal educational institutions.Doctoral Thesis Determinantes da expansão internacional em organizações de rápido crescimento: modelagem bayesiana dos fatores de influência(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-09-26) Silva, Leandro Aparecido da; Calazans, Dinara Leslye Macedo e Silva; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4884-8599; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5716461725901505; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8182527468097483; Paulo, Felipe Luiz Lima de; Felipe, Israel José dos Santos; Medeiros Júnior, Josué Vitor de; Corrêa, Victor SilvaHigh-growth firms are innovation drivers, fostering the development of new business models across various regions. Both developed and emerging economies recognize their potential and implement incentive policies. International expansion is a crucial step in this process but also represents a complex challenge. To make more assertive strategic decisions, managers can rely on tools such as Bayesian Networks (BNs). This technology allows modeling the uncertainty inherent in decision-making processes, helping companies identify opportunities, minimize risks, and optimize their resources. By combining the innovative capacity of high-growth firms with the analytical power of BNs, companies can achieve more sustainable and profitable growth. This study seeks to understand how factors influencing the strategic decision of international expansion behave in high-growth firms, considering their location, the gender of their CEOs/founders, and firm size. The main objective of the research is to analyze the determinants of the strategic choices of internationalization of high-growth firms, through Bayesian Networks, considering location, manager gender, and firm size. The research was divided into three stages, considering Bayesian inference on each factor in strategic choices. Firms with digital business models, annual growth above 20%, and investment potential were included. This study analyzed 1,578 high-growth firms in five major European and American centers, based on data (dataset) derived from networking events between 2016 and 2020. Using Bayesian Networks, the research identified significant differences in management style across different geographic locations, manager genders, and firm sizes. The results highlight the importance of factors for expansion strategies, supporting decisions on internationalization and helping managers make more assertive decisions about internationalization, as well as providing valuable insights for investors, academics, and policymakers. This study presents a set of significant contributions to the field of internationalization of high-growth firms. By providing solid empirical evidence, using an innovative methodology, and contributing to the theoretical development of the area, the research represents a relevant advance in knowledge on this topic.Doctoral Thesis Resiliência na cadeia de suprimentos: um framework do Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar na região dos Cocais-PI(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-11-12) Santos, Laudinéia Pontes dos; Brito, Max Leandro de Araújo; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2827-9886; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8629663810773172; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7113595402443743; Araújo, Maria Valeria Pereira de; Soares, Francisco Igo Leite; Junger, Alex Paubel; Matias, Esdras Matheus SilvaThe general objective of this study was to propose a framework of strategies to improve resilience factors in the supply chain associated with the food procurement process for the National School Feeding Program (PNAE) in the Cocais region, in the State of Piauí (Brazil). Methodologically, the research employs a combination of bibliographic and documentary approaches, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data collection and analysis relied on secondary sources and an examination of legal and procedural documents governing the public procurement process. The findings shed light on varying definitions of resilience articulated in organizational studies and how these concepts apply to public procurement operations and processes. Additionally, the study evaluates the PNAE food supply chain considering Brazil’s public procurement legislation, detailing the resilience characteristics within this supply chain. The analysis encompasses practices, outcomes, and initiatives throughout the PNAE food supply chain. A framework was created to evaluate resilience and its effect on the food supply chain in the Cocais region. It is understood that a resilient supply chain is one that is able to re-establish itself after facing problems and adversity, often emerging even more efficient than it was before the impact. Conclusions point out that the organizations involved possess the potential to enhance resilience in their supply chains, paving the way for more agile responses to logistical challenges and boosting overall performance. The research highlights the importance of stakeholder collaboration, technology for monitoring, and ongoing learning as critical strategies to tackle challenges in the PNAE supply chain. The social implications of this research are significant in addressing critical issues of food security, regional development, and social justice, particularly in vulnerable areas.Doctoral Thesis Avaliação da eficiência da educação primária no Brasil: abordagens para melhoria da gestão escolar(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-05-29) Valle, Wallace Giovanni Rodrigues do; Sampaio, Luciano Menezes Bezerra; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1632-3149; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3807603064705018; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3458069877946655; Costa, Edward Martins; Ramos, Francisco de Souza; Irffi, Guilherme Diniz; Silva, Lucas Borges Leal daThe development of basic education has been guided by mechanisms that encourage improvements in the quality and efficiency of educational institutions. The implementation of public policies, restructuring the responsibilities of each administrative sphere and implementing evaluation and inspection systems are some examples of how to enhance educational performance. In Brazil, the National Education Plan (PNE) is one of the main instruments for conducting education, based on guidelines and goals. PNE monitoring reports highlight the deficiency in achieving goal seven, related to educational quality. This goal essentially aims to increase the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb), which must reach intermediate targets (every two years). Due to the difficulties in aligning with the PNE objectives within the expected deadline (2024), public and school managers must, therefore, seek new actions that help achieve improvements. Measuring school performance stands out as a means to foster these changes, as it allows performance standards to be assessed, not only academically, but also organizationally. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the efficiency of Brazilian primary schools, as well as suggest approaches that facilitate school management and progress towards educational quality. With the exception of the introduction and conclusion, the chapters of this work were developed independently and structured as scientific articles, each one guided by a specific objective. Chapter 2 aims to discuss the issue of school efficiency based on a systematic review of academic literature, exploring information such as predominant techniques and variables. Based on a sample of 75 articles, the results demonstrated the use of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as the main tool for evaluating school efficiency, with the socioeconomic context and the student-teacher relationship often associated with the models. Chapter 3 aims to calculate and compare the efficiency of Brazilian primary schools, defining reference points for inefficient institutions. Four DEA models are proposed with different combinations of variables and periods. Context-dependent DEA will also be used so that schools further away from the original efficiency frontier obtain practical goals, in stages. In general, it was found that efficiency becomes lower when using Ideb as an output, and can be reduced by up to 21.7% in relation to other models that consider students' grades in Portuguese and Mathematics as outputs. Although the initially projected goals were high, changes in the evaluation context resulted in lower intermediate values and, consequently, easier to achieve, maintaining the incentive for inefficient institutions. In turn, using regression with panel data, chapter 4 aims to verify the association between the type of administrative dependence (state or municipal) and school efficiency, measured by a dynamic DEA model. A positive relationship was identified when schools are under state control, as well as when located in urban areas. Finally, it was concluded that the approaches suggested in the aforementioned chapters can facilitate school management (at an organizational and public level) and allow for progress towards educational quality.Doctoral Thesis Ensaios sobre avaliação de performance de fundos de pensão brasileiros: uma abordagem com eficiência, produtividade e risco/retorno(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-07-19) Bezerra, Diogo de Menezes Cortês; Barbosa, Alexandro; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8572-0637; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5747730761816822; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3304027227127642; Baggio, Daniel Knebel; Felipe, Israel José dos Santos; Silva, Josimar Pires da; Azevedo, Yuri Gomes PaivaPerformance measurement is a decisive issue in various fields, especially in sectors where resource allocation plays a significant role. Measuring efficiency in pension funds is crucial to ensure financial health and fulfil long-term commitments to beneficiaries. This work presents three studies on the performance evaluation of Brazilian pension funds and introduces a structured evaluation model. The first essay aims to conduct a systematic literature review on the efficiency evaluation of pension funds, seeking to identify patterns in objectives, methodologies, results, and trends in fund evaluation. The analysis was conducted from three different perspectives: bibliometric analysis, correspondence analysis, and content analysis. The results indicated that research on pension funds is still incipient, yet patterns are recognized in the predominant methodology used, which is Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The second essay evaluates efficiency and productivity using DEA with different orientations, and then correlates the approaches to identify efficiency and productivity patterns. Financial variables were selected based on the literature and their availability in the financial statements issued by the funds and published by the National Superintendence of Complementary Pensions (PREVIC) between 2019-2023. The use of the DEA model followed a four-step process: (1) Defining the database consisting of 132 pension funds for the financial years 2019-2023, with 45 publicly sponsored and 87 privately sponsored. (2) Identifying input and output variables to assess the relative efficiency of the selected Decision Making Units (DMUs). (3) Applying DEA from different perspectives to analyse efficiency (DEA-DSBM) and productivity (DEAMalmquist). (4) Performing Spearman and Kendall correlations, as well as Kendall’s coefficient of concordance, to highlight patterns of efficiency and inefficiency among the productive units. Based on the results, five hypotheses regarding determinants of efficiency and productivity were tested using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney statistical test. Additionally, the results showed that during the analysed period, the funds had an overall efficiency index of only 63% and a productivity index of 88%. Finally, the third essay evaluates the financial efficiency of pension funds using the Sharpe Ratio for the period 2020-2023. The Sharpe Ratio is a performance measure that evaluates the return of an investment relative to the risk taken. This index compares the profitability of an asset or portfolio against a risk-free investment, adjusting returns by the level of volatility. The risk-free assets chosen for comparison were the Ibovespa market index and the Interbank Deposit Certificate (CDI), an important benchmark for fixedincome assets. The results showed that 56 pension funds had a Sharpe Ratio lower than zero compared to the Ibovespa, and 109 funds compared to the CDI. This means that for the analysed period, the adopted risk-free rate outperformed the investment portfolios of a significant number of funds. Furthermore, it is acknowledged that research on fund evaluation needs to advance academically, as the lack of standardized analyses and the various gaps in the literature hinder the comparison of funds from different perspectives.Doctoral Thesis Essays on information technology in tax administrations: a review of literature and brazilian evidence of impacts on collection(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-03-25) Lucena, João Paulo Oliveira; Sampaio, Raquel Menezes Bezerra; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0685-5830; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9368661158330209; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1114-2090; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9161946280053271; Slalov, Tiago Nascimento Borges; Felipe, Israel José dos Santos; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8608-0029; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4608734331831234; Sampaio, Luciano Menezes Bezerra; Cabello, Otávio GomesInformation Technology (IT) plays a fundamental role in the reform of any tax administration, enabling better collection and analysis of information, proactive management of workload and resources, promotion of cooperative engagement and standardization in the treatment of taxpayers, thus facilitating uniformity and application of tax legislation (Jimenez, Mac An tSionnaigh, & Kamenov, 2013). Given this perspective, this thesis explores the use of IT in tax administrations, consisting of three essays. The first essay consists of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) that seeks to comprehensively analyze the current literature on the intersection between Information Technology (IT) and tax collection. The RSL was conducted following the protocol proposed by Tranfield, Denyer, and Smart (2003) and identified three research clusters: the impacts of IT on tax collection, the factors that influence the adoption of technology in this context, and the aspects related to IT and its application in tax administration. Alongside these clusters, we present the main theories used and the main challenges identified for the implementation of IT in governments. Finally, we propose our research agenda. Among the technologies identified in the RSL, standardized electronic tax systems stand out, as explored in the second essay of this thesis. The objective of the second essay is to analyze the effects of adopting this system on the tax collection of municipalities in a Brazilian state. Using a database composed of 146 municipalities in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, from 2013 to 2018, the study initially uses a panel with two-way fixed effects. Then it applies the differencein-differences approach proposed by Callaway and Sant'Anna (2021). The results reveal that the adoption of standardized electronic tax systems resulted in an average increase of approximately 52% in Urban Property and Territorial Tax (IPTU) while the Tax on Services of Any Nature (ISSQN) recorded an average increase of around 43%. Examining the effects over time, we found that IPTU collections increased on average by approximately 77% after the third year of the system's implementation. On the other hand, ISSQN revenue increased by an average of 72% after the fourth year of adoption of the aforementioned system. The third essay addresses the use of another technology, the Electronic Consumer Invoice (NFC-e). It aims to analyze the impact of the NFC-e project on the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS). The database used is made up of 4,652 municipalities in Brazil, from 2013 to 2016, and uses the differences-in-differences approach of Callaway and Sant'Anna (2021). The results of this test indicate that the adoption of NFC-e impacts municipalities in different ways depending on their size. Larger municipalities had more substantial increases in the transfer of participation installment in the ICMS per person. Specifically, in the simple effects, large size municipalities recorded an average increase of approximately 3.6% per person, while medium size municipalities recorded an increase of approximately 2.7% per person. About dynamic effects, large size municipalities showed an average increase of around 18.6% per person two years after the states implemented the policy. It is concluded that IT plays a significant role in tax administrations, offering substantial benefits. This is evident through the implementation of standardized electronic systems and NFC-e, which significantly contribute to improving municipal revenues.Doctoral Thesis Conexões políticas e precificação de ativos: evidências no mercado regulado brasileiro(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2023-12-04) Ribeiro, Irã Inácio; Almeida, Vinicio de Souza e; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1092-0332; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5861723290897089; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1273214996428248; Felipe, Israel José dos Santos; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8608-0029; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4608734331831234; Freitas Neto, Raimundo Marciano de; Vasconcelos, Alessandra Carvalho de; Girão, Luiz Felipe de Araújo Pontes; Mota, Renato Henrique GurgelThe objective of this thesis was to analyze political connections in regulated companies as an omitted factor in asset pricing models. The sample shows 79 companies listed on B3 and that are under the supervision of regulatory agencies such as, for example, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), National Water Agency (Ana), National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) in the period 2011 to 2022, which totaled 3,160 observations. The methodology follows the steps of Fama and French (1993) for the three-factor model; by Carhart (1997) for the four-factor model and by Fama and French (2015) for the five-factor model. Two factors were included in these models: the first deals with political connections through the proportion of politically connected advisors in relation to the total number of advisors and the second factor seeks a temporal analysis due to the requirements imposed by Law 13,303/2016 (Law of Responsibility of State-owned companies) for investiture in the position of director of companies controlled by the public authorities. The results showed that political connections began to be priced after the law was published, that is, the absence of political connections can be considered as an omitted factor in asset pricing models requiring an excess return for investors after the law was published. 13,303/2016, which aligns with the Resource Dependence Theory to the detriment of the Agency Theory. The significance of the proportionality of politically connected advisors in relation to the total number of advisors was not verified, on the contrary, their isolated inclusion in the model proved to be an anomaly, since the intercept of the regressions returns a value different from zero and statically significant, violating an assumption for an adjusted model.Doctoral Thesis Ensaios sobre liderança e sucesso em projetos: revisão de literatura e evidências dos efeitos dos estilos transacional e transformacional sob mediação do autogerenciamento(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-02-05) Alves, Thales da Costa Lago; Medeiros, Carlos Alberto Freire; Gurgel, André Morais; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1925-8031; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7215356171529987; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3830-1162; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9398091583694583; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1068931829671427; Moraes, Renato de Oliveira; Felipe, Israel José dos Santos; Silva, Luciano Ferreira da; Assunção, Marcus Vinicius Dantas deThe adoption of project management has been consolidating in organizations over the last decades. In light of this reality, leadership stands out as one of the competencies that can positively contribute to project success. The literature has been addressing this relationship, aiming to observe the effects of leader styles and competencies on project success, and furthermore, to incorporate other factors that, together with leadership actions, may enhance the achievement of project success. Given the relevance of this topic, this thesis aims to analyze the impact of transactional and transformational leadership on the success of the project under the mediation of self-management and moderation of factors inherent to the project context. The first essay consists of a systematic literature review (SLR) aiming to explore how the relationship between leadership and project success is addressed in international literature. In total, 59 articles were selected, and the results revealed the prevalence of quantitative analyses using models to assess the leadership-project success relationship, incorporating moderating and mediating factors that can influence the impact of the leader's role in successful projects. Among other findings, the SLR also indicates that transformational and transactional leadership styles, along with leader competencies, are the most used approaches in the reviewed works. Considering the need to expand the range of factors explored in models analyzing the impact of leadership on project success, two additional empirical essays were developed. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to gather data on indicators related to project success, transformational and transactional leadership, and self-management. The latter construct emerges as an innovation in the tested models, as the self-regulatory characteristics of team members lack further investigation in the face of similar research already conducted. The total sample for this study comprised 406 project team members from the five regions of Brazil. Through structural equation modeling (SEM), the second essay of the thesis found a direct positive impact of transactional leadership on project success and an indirect impact through the self-management of team members. Additionally, in another novel finding for the field, a significant moderating effect was observed in the relationship between leadership and success in differentiated groups based on the project management approach used. It has been observed that, at higher levels of transactional leadership, the achievement of project success becomes more evident in teams that adopt agile and traditional approaches. Equally using SEM techniques, the third essay indicated a positive effect of transformational leadership on project success. This impact also occurs indirectly through the partial mediation of self-management. In this essay, the moderating effect was tested among groups divided by the form of work execution: onsite, telecommuting, and hybrid. The results revealed that higher levels of selfmanagement among team members working in a telecommuting format have a more pronounced impact on project success.
