Doctoral Thesis Violência simbólica em espaços educacionais: o caso da Escola Djalma Maranhão(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2023-12-21) Pessoa, Ana Beatriz Silva; Fortes, Lore; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4596655243422487; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7974773223046395; Silva, Anaxsuell Fernando da; Barbosa, Anna Christina Freire; Morais, Erivania Melo de; Lima, Hermano Machado FerreiraThis thesis aims to study cases of Symbolic Violence at the Dijalma Maranhão School, located in the city of São Pedro do Potengi/RN. The data presented reflect the point of view of educators and education professionals linked to the institution (teachers, management and pedagogical team), with a view to identifying how and when these cases occur and what has been the role of the School in the face of this problem, observing the promotion of spaces for discussion on diversity and acceptance of differences. For this, we sought as references the studies carried out by Pierre Bourdieu on Symbolic Violence (2004), the discussions of Paulo Freire and his reflections on banking and liberating education (1996), discussions on Power and Biopower in Foucault (2010) and the concept of Social Action in Werber (1992) to guide our methodology. With this, we intend to establish a dialogue between the authors and the facts presented, discussing the emergence of studies on Symbolic Violence and its impact on the lives of students and, consequently, on the social context. The research was developed using the Case Study method, anchored in qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques with an exploratory-descriptive purpose, which allowed for greater knowledge about the question to be clarified, involving bibliographical research, participant observation and interviews with school professionals. The research aims to arouse the interest of other researchers and encourage them to focus on questions as pertinent as the role of the school space regarding issues of violence, promotion of citizenship and respect for differences, having as justification that it is a topic little addressed in Social Sciences, even more so when related to the concept of Symbolic Violence in the school environment. Finally, we intend to offer data that can portray the scenario of this type of violence in a school that represents the profile of almost 60% of schools in the country (IBGE, 2022), shedding light on a topic that is still little discussed, but that can have many impacts on the educational and social field.Master Thesis "Eu prefiro não pensar": uma análise sobre os envelhecimentos LGBTT nos movimentos sociais e nos espaços de politicas institucionais no Rio Grande do Norte(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-02-18) Ferreira, Luiz Antonio; Talone, Anna Barbara Araújo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7723385972861655; Silva, Anaxsuell Fernando da; Henning, Carlos EduardoThe initial objective of this research was to analyze the formation of an agenda regarding LGBTT aging in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil from two perspectives: LGBTT social movements and the State Council for LGBTQIA+ Public Policies. The fieldwork unfolded in such a way that the analyses presented here focus much more on trying to understand the silence surrounding issues of LGBTT aging, seeking to comprehend why these demands do not enter the agendas of movements and/or institutional bodies. The discussions and analyses developed in the research also aim to understand how activists perceive, experience, and frame LGBTT aging, reflecting on its particularities. Additionally, the analytical efforts delve into understanding the political demands linked to the perceptions and experiences of aging as an LGBTT person. Methodologically, this research is based on semi-structured interviews, structured observations, multi-sited etnography, document analysis and content analysis as a method for analyzing the data obtained. The findings highlight the construction of chosen families, here specifically referred to as social families in opposition to families of origin, as sources of support and care for LGBTT individuals. Furthermore, the study points to a more pronounced privatization of old age for this population, particularly transsexuals and travestis, given their life trajectories marked by exclusion and the necessity of self-care. Lastly, the findings indicate a context of low visibility concerning LGBTT aging within movements and the Council, which is analyzed in this research through a perspective on emotions and social effects.Master Thesis Combate ao narcotráfico: a segurança regional na fronteira Brasil-Bolívia (2003-2016)(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2025-02-20) Santos, Ingrid Daniely Vale dos; Silva, Lucas Trindade da; Silva, Anaxsuell Fernando da; Nascimento, Dmitri Félix do; Ferreira, Marcos Alan S. V.This study investigates drug trafficking combat strategies during the Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff administrations (2003-2016) and their influence on regional security along the Brazil-Bolivia border. Drug trafficking, as a non-state threat, represents one of the main security challenges in the international system. Specifically, the research employs the Theory of Regional Security Complexes to understand the dynamics of international drug trafficking and identify the regional security strategies adopted by the Lula and Dilma governments. The study focuses on the dynamics of the border between Bolivia, the world's third-largest producer of cocaine, and Brazil, which plays a strategic role in the logistics of international drug trafficking and ranks as the second-largest consumer of cocaine. The methodology follows a descriptive case study based on a narrative review and document analysis. Bilateral agreements, meetings, and joint operations aimed at formulating public policies for drug trafficking surveillance and repression are examined. The research findings unfold in two main perspectives: first, the identification of regional security dynamics influencing drug trafficking; and second, the evaluation of the effectiveness of the regional security strategies implemented to combat drug trafficking along the Brazil-Bolivia border during the Lula and Dilma administrations (2003-2016).Master Thesis A juventude evangélica e a questão do trânsito religioso: demandas, associações e controvérsias em torno dos rumos religiosos no Brasil(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-12-23) Miranda, Hilder Mateus Nascimento de; Lopes Júnior, Orivaldo Pimentel; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7945742180527825; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8490049752570107; Silva, Anaxsuell Fernando da; Santos, Clécio Jamilson Bezerra dosThe changes in the Brazilian evangelical segment in recent decades are not restricted to the recruitment and transit of believers, but encompass the emergence of new ideas, demands and configurations. These transformations are expressed in the political, cultural, liturgical and doctrinal fields. In view of this, this work intended to problematize the issue of religious transit in Brazil, with an emphasis on the religious mobility of evangelical youth, taking as a starting point the hypothesis that points out as their main motivation the search for flexibility and religious autonomy and/or political preferences. Thus, the objective was to reflect on the changes in the Brazilian evangelical segment, having as a research field Natal/RN, based on the characterization of the profile of evangelical youth who practiced religious transit, delimiting their religious trajectory and seeking to understand their motivations, as well as their social and political perceptions. To carry out this investigation, methodologies such as: bibliographic review and application of a semi-structured questionnaire with evangelical youth accessed through virtual groups of young people on WhatsApp and Facebook, and through interlocutors from the field of study itself, were used. Finally, the hypothesis used acted as an important guiding thread to evaluate the role of evangelical youth in the context of the 2018 and 2022 presidential elections, expressed in the adoption of postures of agreement, accommodation and silent disagreement, which distance themselves from the posture of conflicting disagreement generally associated with youth as agents of change, in the literature and in the media.Master Thesis Flexitarianos no Brasil: uma análise dos fatores socioeconômicos que influenciam a redução do consumo de carne(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2023-02-28) Teixeira, Carla Djaine; Jacob, Michelle Cristine Medeiros; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4881-7285; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1788932483645882; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3138-1323; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4439237435612324; Dantas, Alexsandro Galeno Araújo; Marchioni, Dirce Maria Lobo; Gomes, Sávio MarcelinoFlexitarianism is a dietary model based on reducing meat consumption, which is recognized as an important ally in transitioning to sustainable food systems, capable of mitigating climate change and strengthening food security and nutrition. However, we have limited knowledge regarding the socio-economic factors associated with its adoption. The purpose of this study was to characterize the socio-economic profile of flexitarians in Brazil, examining its relationship with meat consumption patterns. We sought to answer four questions: (1) What is the sociodemographic profile of this population? (2) What are the main motivations for adopting this diet? (3) How frequently do flexitarians consume meat? (4) What are the primary meat substitutes consumed by flexitarians? Additionally, we investigated the relationship between gender, sexual orientation, and meat reduction behavior among flexitarians. Data were collected from 1029 flexitarians across Brazil using an electronic survey. Our findings indicate that flexitarianism is more prevalent among highly educated women. The primary motivation for adoption is the environmental impact of meat consumption. Consumption patterns are characterized by reduced beef consumption and increased poultry consumption. The main substitutes for meat are plant-based protein sources and eggs. Gender does not influence the degree of meat reduction among the flexitarian population, although race/ethnicity may play a role. We conclude that adopting this diet in Brazil can serve as a positive indicator and may also be related to individuals' cognitive flexibility.Doctoral Thesis O romance sociológico em Michel Houellebecq(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2023-10-30) Cruz, Raphael de Souza; Dantas, Alexsandro Galeno Araújo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2568499843473943; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7701490909644633; Medeiros, Lucas Fortunato Rêgo de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5873773076234008; Lima, Artemilson Alves de; Silva, Gustavo de Castro da; Lima, Hermano Machado FerreiraThis work analyzes the novels of the writer Michel Houellebecq, starting from the premise that literature, and the texts of the french author in particular, have epistemic dimensions (Sevänen, 2018) and establish discursivities (Foucault, 2001) about contemporary social pathologies. Literature, like the human sciences, produces discursive orientations about different realities. The question that arises is about the possibility of placing Houellebecq's text in the face of the condition of founder of discourse on social phenomena, especially the malaise of current civilization. It is a malaise linked to a crisis of what is called “humanism”, as discussed by Martin Heidegger (2005) and, more recently, re-elaborated by Peter Sloterdijk (2000; 2008). It is no longer a discontent resulting from the repression of a primitive man, but from the tensioning of the civilized individual between inhibiting and disinhibiting forces. It echoes, however, the same anguish with the decline of the body and with the “hell of the other” present in Freud (2011). Moreover, it is also a crisis of fundamental institutions of modernity (Bauman, 2001; 2014). The central objective of this thesis is to analyze this contemporary malaise through the Rociological Novel.Master Thesis No epicentro da virulência: impactos da Covid-19 para os profissionais da enfermagem no Hospital Onofre Lopes (RN)(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2023-12-18) Gama, Vinícius Laranjeira; Lindozo, José Antônio Spineli; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9490707517933297; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5143224047853255; Fortes, Lore; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4596655243422487; Knobbe, Margarida MariaThe present research aims to investigate the various challenges and impacts experienced due to the COVID19 pandemic by the nursing team working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Onofre Lopes University Hospital, maintained and operated by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). It exposes the serious limitations of the public health sector and the contradictions related to the vast disparity in comparison to the well-equipped and less accessible private sector. The COVID-19 pandemic, as usual, has weighed more heavily, within the capitalist framework, on the shoulders of the poorer segments of the population and, consequently, on public hospitals. Observing closely and reflecting on the experiences, perceptions, and psychosocial conditions of the professionals on the front lines in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is, especially in times of crisis, an endeavor of utmost importance. It allows us to consider conditions and strategies for the future to improve the working and service conditions for these professionals. Therefore, in order to address this topic, the phenomenological research primarily relied on the personal account of the author who worked on the front lines, data obtained by the Access to Information Law (Lei nº 12.527/2011), as well as a literature review.Master Thesis Processos formativos antirracistas na Educação Superior: uma análise a partir da experiência do Coletivo Negras na UFERSA(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-07-30) Nonato, Ana Kelly dos Reis; Silva, Anaxsuell Fernando da; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8830-0064; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5102487999559634; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9760343265249998; Talone, Anna Barbara Araújo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7723385972861655; Silva, Alessandra PioThe aim of this study was to understand the educational and training experience of Coletivo Negras (an extension group studying gender, ethnic-racial relations, learning and knowledge). This group is seen as a political-epistemic instrument for promoting anti-racist and decolonial education at a Federal Public University in the semi-arid region. Its intention is to promote the strengthening of knowledge production on the ethnic-racial relations of black women, in the valorization of social identities and education in contemporary times, considering the scenario of social inequalities and the understanding of the intersectional relations that make up these women. In the meantime, the group, in its socio-historical placement, has gone through tensions to insert itself and maintain itself in the University itself. The work was theoretically based on authors from the field of Human and Social Sciences and in dialogue with Education and ethnicracial issues that discuss the theme, based on Azevedo (2018); Almeida (2018); Cavalleiro (2001); Souza (1983); Silva (2011); Nascimento (2018); Guimarães (2008); Gonzalez (2018); Gomes (2018) and Carneiro (2002). The research was classified as documentary, qualitative, and questioned how the training of black educators takes place within the Collective. The hypothesis was that the experience in the Negras Collective allows for moments of training for new educators who gain knowledge about their black reality and their place of speech in order to act in society. The method adopted was important because it allowed me to observe and participate, as a teacher-researcher, in the activities developed in the socio-cultural context of black women. This proximity corroborated the aim of getting to know their values, behaviors, beliefs and worldviews, and reflecting on the socio-historical context of the group. The partial results show that the speeches and experiences of black women in the Negras Collective enable formative, anti-racist action at the university.Doctoral Thesis O autointitulado movimento social antiproibicionista brasileiro no século XXI: e o surgimento da articulação nacional de Marchas da Maconha no contexto da pandemia Covid-19(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2023-09-27) Castro, Diego Marcos Barros de; Lopes Júnior, Orivaldo Pimentel; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7945742180527825; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5405365702508268; Dantas, Alexsandro Galeno Araújo; Medeiros, Lucas Fortunato Rego de; Torcato, Carlos Eduardo Martins; Silva, Marcos Alexandre Verissimo daThis thesis explores the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Brazil's anti-prohibitionist social movement, analyzing how the period of social isolation propelled deeper integration of the movement into the technological world and its communication tools, particularly through the internet. Using Bruno Latour's Sociology of Associations (2012), the research addresses the dialogical complexity between humans and non-humans, highlighting the emergence and strengthening of the National Articulation of Marijuana Marches, a group linked to the Anti-Prohibitionist Social Movement in the country. The results indicate that the pandemic not only reshaped the interactions and operations of social movements but also accelerated the adoption of virtual technologies within anti-prohibitionist activism, causing a significant impact on the social reality and militancy of the Brazilian anti-prohibitionist cause.Doctoral Thesis Políticas públicas, inovação tecnológica e engajamento social: comparando estratégias de acessibilidade urbana em Seattle/EUA e Natal/RN(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2024-08-15) Maia, Rute Rocha; Costa, João Bosco Araújo da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4418972852075556; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1101-6086; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7004159440421496; Lopes Júnior, Orivaldo Pimentel; Câmara, Richardson Leonardi Moura da; Warren, Jonathan Frederick; Lima, Renata Mayara Moreira deThe construction of democratic cities aims to promote equal access to goods, services, and urban environments for all citizens. In this regard, accessibility emerges as an indispensable element in ensuring that citizens with disabilities access the right to the city. In this dissertation, we conduct a comparative analysis of the strategies used to advance urban accessibility in Seattle, United States, and Natal, Brazil. This comparison allowed us to identify patterns, shortcomings, and opportunities for improvement in each city, contributing to a deeper understanding of urban accessibility strategies in different contexts. We start from the premise that promoting accessibility is a global challenge, but each city tackles this task according to strategies relevant to its geographical, political, economic, and social contexts. We collected data through semi-structured interviews with policymakers, researchers, and accessibility advocates in both cities. Also, through document analysis, participant observation in workshops and study groups on technological innovation, and focus groups with families of people with disabilities and accessibility researchers. This study concluded that both cities have robust legislation on the subject and well-defined public policies, notwithstanding most policies are enforced through judicial means. Additionally, we found accessibility projects for leisure, such as the Seattle Children’s Playgarden and Natal Praia Inclusiva in each city, and the employment of storytelling techniques in both cities as a strategy for social engagement. Finally, we noticed that technological initiatives for urban accessibility in Natal are still in their early stages, while in Seattle, projects like AccessMap and Project Sidewalk demonstrate significant potential to advance the debates and practices of urban accessibility in different cities around the world.
