Restauro de imagens sacras na Igreja do Galo: entre perdas e ganhos

Abstract

The present research starts from a case study about the restoration process done in two devotional statues present in the Galo Church in Natal/RN. It has as its general objective to reflect on the restoration of sacred images in the capitol city of Rio Grande do Norte starting from the process done on the sculptures of Saint Anton and Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, between the years of 2010 and 2018, investigating the histories of those images and their symbologies. The specific goals view to present theoretical aspects of restoration process of sacred images, highlighting the chosen images and some impacts to restorations that affect their symbologies, forms of creation, and esthetic appreciation. The research also presents some reflection about the scarcity of restorers in the region and the lack of content of restoration in the Visual Arts course at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Consequently, the research makes itself necessary to instigate the production of papers in the Visual Arts course present in the University, in a way to guarantee the importance of the intensification of these studies in the state.
