Avaliação da temperatura das mamas no puerpério imediato

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess whether there is a difference in temperature in the breast of lactating mothers between 24 and 48 hours after delivery. Through a cross-sectional study, 21 postpartum women admitted to the Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco were included. All volunteers were evaluated using an evaluation form, thermographic breast evaluation form, and had their breast temperature measured using surface infrared thermography. Descriptive statistics were used, and a paired and unpaired t-Student test was used to compare the data, adopting a value of p<0.05 as statistically significant. There was no statistical difference between sociodemographic characteristics. It was also observed that there was no significant difference in the temperature of the offered breast (p=0.455) or of the control breast (p=0.472) between 24 and 48 hours postpartum. The results of the study showed that probably due to the fact that milk production is not yet intense in this period, and phase two of lactogenesis possibly has not yet started in most participants, there is no difference in breast temperature in the immediate postpartum period.
