Análise de imagem dos autorretratos de Telma Saraiva

Abstract

This work results from a research on the technique of photopainting, with the focus on the analysis of the image of self portraits produced by the artist Telma Saraiva (1929-2015). The objective here is to understand the production of self portraits, in its production phases and the interpretation of the visual message taken from each image. So, the concept of representation has been discussed through the process of production of portraiture and self-portraiture in the pictorial and photographic fields, as well as the needs and stages of the production of a photopainting. Based on the image analysis methodology developed by Martine Joly (1994), a historical, social and cultural contextualisation of Telma Saraiva's productions was carried out, as the selection and description of plastic and iconic elements of each image. The identification of these visual elements allowed the interpretation of the works as well as the set of selected works, evidencing the complexity of the production of each stage of their self-portraits. This work had also developed a pedagogical practice on the history of the portrait and the stages of the photopainting, evidencing the importance of this study for the context of visual arts teaching.
