Instituições de longa permanência para idosos: uma análise sobre o trabalho do assistente social no Instituto Juvino Barreto - Natal/RN

Abstract

The present scientific work has as its general objective to analyze the challenges and possibilities posed to the social workers inserted in Long Permanence Institutions for Elderly [Instituições de Longa Permanência para Idosos], particularizing the insertion in Juvino Barreto Institute at Natal/RN, which was constituted in locus of accomplishment of obligatory curricular internship by the author, from September 2016 to June 2017. For purposes of analysis of the object of study, we resorted to authors who study and address the theme to foment the theoretical construction, given the relevance of the theme. In this institute, an exploratory and documentary research was carried out, using the semi-structured interview with the social worker acting in the clipped time lapse. It was observed, through the obtained results, that the social service has a very important role in the Institution, in the accomplishment of both internal and external mediations between the residents, the institution and the family; are used intervention, creativity and articulation techniques in order to enable a perspective of change, even minimal, in the reality of the institutionalized elderly, through the attendance of the current demands; forwardness to the public service network and adequate orientation about rights and constituted duties. In addition, it is understood that the profession suffers impacts and regressions in the face of a prevailing neoliberal policy that reflects within the socio-occupational spaces and contributes to the professional often performing functions different from those assigned to him, thus hindering the realization of the ethical-political project and the achievement of a critical and constructive profile. Given this context, is attributed the importance of this study, due to the dismantling and lack of responsibility of the State in relation to social assistance, notably related to the demands of the elderly, even though it has the primacy of responsibility.
