Práticas de informação em biblioteca escolar: um estudo de caso da Biblioteca da Escola Estadual Professora Maria Angelina Gomes em Riacho de Santana - RN

Abstract

This study aims to understand how information practices are developed in a school library of a public school that operates without a librarian, being coordinated by a reassigned teacher. The research is situated within the field of School Libraries and information mediation, with emphasis on the reality of schools that, even with limited structure, strive to keep the educational role of the library alive. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire to the teacher in charge of the library. The responses were analyzed interpretatively, seeking to capture not only the practices carried out, but also the meanings attributed by the person managing the space. The results reveal that, despite the absence of a trained librarian, the regent teacher performs her role with commitment, promoting reading encouragement activities, organizing the collection, and supporting both students and teachers. It became clear, however, that the lack of a specialized professional limits the full development of the library as a center for information and learning. The study reinforces the importance of implementing and investing in public policies that ensure the enforcement of Law No. 12.244/2010, updated by Federal Law No. 14,837 of April 8, 2024, which mandates libraries in all educational institutions in Brazil, and the appreciation of the librarian's role in schools, while also recognizing the effort of reassigned professionals who, despite challenges, keep the social and educational function of the library alive.
