Os estereótipos da mulher nas Classificações Bibliográficas CDD e CDU

Abstract

It presents as a discussion the classifications of knowledge, which are part of the activities and studies of librarians and students of Librarianship around the world, who seek, in the best way, to organize the information so that it reaches the users served by the Information Units in a satisfactory way. As an instrument for this service, the Classification Systems Bibliographic are fundamental for the activities of organization and management of collections. Based on this, this research has the general objective of analyzing such Classification Systems, in particular the Dewey Decimal Classification and the Universal Decimal Classification, observing the presence of stereotypes about women. With the specific objectives: to present the DDC and UDC Knowledge Classification Systems; analyze the representation of women in the delimited Knowledge Classification Systems; to investigate the presence of stereotypes related to women in the delimited Classification Systems and to contextualize the relationship between the identified stereotypes and the historical aspects of the representation of women in society. It seeks to answer the research problem: Are female stereotypes being reproduced in the CDD and CDU Classification Systems? This is justified, given the difficulty in if you perceive negative representations, which carry prejudices and beliefs of people or groups and which are also materialized in these classifications. The methodology adopted is an exploratory, qualitative and bibliographic research. The results indicate the presence of stereotypes associated with women in society, evidencing aspects of maternity and care occupations, in a place of subservience watered by discussions sensitive around gender issues. With the educational and sociocultural role of libraries, this research reflects on how women are represented, in the struggle for conscience and respect. Studies on stereotypes in classifications about women allow not only highlight situations experienced by her, but also make room for the understanding of scenarios expanding the discussions and promoting this agenda in the area of Librarianship.
